      @@SidewaysKing75 I have the first Flatout 442 I ever did as my profile picture obviously. I have one that I have taken apart and cleaned up. I am thinking about painting it a baby blue with orange hub real riders. I have yet to try decals, but have a pretty good idea of how to do them. I have too many customs in progress over the years and rarely seem to finish them. I will send you a picture of this one as I get along. Great channel by the way.

      @@SidewaysKing75 nightmare! My 2¢ of stripping advice for the stubborn stuff would be a can of Loctite Gasket remover. It sprays as a reasonably mangeable foam and seems pretty much no paint is a match for it, bubbling up in about 2-3 minutes. I use it on bike frames - heck - it even removes plasticised powder coat.

    Good comparison. I've noticed when Rob (of Matchbox Garage) uses his caustic soda, it immediately starts boiling up in the jar. I like the gel type used in a small tub, immersing the body in it while it works.

    • @dodgydruid
      @dodgydruid 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Some oven cleaners are just caustic soda with additives, we call it caustic soda over here, think its called lye stateside and is potent stuff, if you breathe in some of the fumes from some of the cleaners you can feel it literally burning your throat and lungs and caustic soda will have the flesh off your hands fairly quickly so not a chemical to be haphazard with :(

    Very interesting. I was always a fan of Nitromors until a few years ago when Dichloromethane was banned and it became less effective. I have used a couple of own brand strippers and found them to be near useless, but it seems the Diall stuff is a hidden gem. I will get off to B&Q in the morning!
    I have been tempted to try Caustic Soda after watching Matchbox Garage, but, like yourself, I'm not keen on its volatility.
    Certainly some food for thought there.

    Hi, thanks for the video. If you're not in a hurry I've found Dettol disinfectant to be a wonderful paint stripper. I used it on plastic models and it stripped the paint away and didn't harm the plastic. I had a couple of diecast vehicles to strip down and it worked on those too. I usually leave them overnight so, like I say, it's not a fast method. I was quite sceptical when I was first told about this but I gave it a try and it worked. What's more you can use it time and time again.. Hope you don't mind me mentioning it. Thanks again

    Thanks for the tip on the Diall paint remover I finally got around to getting some after watching this video a few weeks ago, and as you say if your patient it works like a dream. I left a casting in it over night and this morning there was not a spot of paint left on it. Even a couple of hours is enough to get most castings clean, but I would recommend the over night treatment as bes option. Bought a 2.5Ltr container for just under £15 and with use of a glass jar and Time Riders Primordial Oose it should last me an age. Will keep some Caustic as backup as I still have half a packet, but if it continues to work as good I can see me sticking to this long term.

      @@SidewaysKing75 As I am doing mainly Matchbox that is not an issue for me, but yes it is great. You do need to remove any plastics as they will be a gel if left in for any length of time but that's standard with most paint removal products. I've just started to use thick bleach for removing paint from Plastic wheels, screens and internal plastics. It works well and dose not damage the parts. Just the bog standard Thick bleach from any value store, I used the Home Bargains one and diluted it 1-1 with water.

    I appreciate the comparisons, excellent work. But how does each method work with very old corgi or dinky models? The models shown are fairly new, and as such probably use modern paints.
    Does the diall stripper work equally well on an early 60’s Corgi Scammell?

    • @SidewaysKing75

      Yes it works perfectly. The newer cars are few and far between. The paint either comes off easily within an hour or has repeated dips and takes a few hours, usually if it has a transfer design. Its few and far between.

    Caustic Soda = Sodium hydroxide , might be more familiar to some under that name. Bombs drainage pipes clear like nothing.
    BTW @sidewaysking75 what would you use to remove Enamel paint from plastic scale models?

    • @SidewaysKing75
      @SidewaysKing75  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the info..... It is drain shifter , makes you wonder what's down there sometimes..... Well.... Probably not 😂
      I haven't tried the enamel paint from plastic before, one will experiment and report back 👍🏻

      I've never had any problems and have left some for years with no issues. I often use some.wire wool and buff them up to a lovely shine and leave them 🚗😁👍🏻

      Thank you Michael 🙏🏻.... I've toyed with the idea but don't want to ask for money. That said, being a designer, starting out 25years ago in the textile industry too, I was going to do T-shirts, hoodies, caps etc..... But not the run of the mill T-shirts, with a car plopped on it. A bit of thought to the design.

    Hi, can you help? I have two green matchbox no 74 green Daimiler buses. They are in great condition but many years ago due to madness, I placed some white gloss numbers on the bottom of the model eg a fleet number. Both have this issue but otherwise in great condition. I am at a loss to know how to remove these white gloss numbers without damaging the paint on the chassis and thus ruining the models. Any ideas?

      Depends what paint you used.
      Isopropanol might remove hobby paint but spare factory paint.
      I've used it that way.

      Its not always neccesary but you do get a smoother paint finish at the end. I tend to only do it on really old pitted castings more than the newer stuff in all honesty 🚕🚙🏎🚗🚓😁👍

    Took me 2.5 hours to strip the paint off a white with black decal A100 the other day with Nitromorse but you really don’t want it on your skin 😂😂😂 do you know anyone in the UK that does custom decals ?!

    I LOVE,LOVE,LOVE your videos, thanks for sharing. But could you do another video about paint stripping but then with:
    1 - A copper wire brush ( as far as i can see you used a metal wire brush this time ? )
    2- Sandblaster: there are small sandblasters the same size as a regular airbrush but with a bigger cup (BD-178 = 21 euro + 1 KG sandblasting material BD-60 = 4 euro see airgoo-europe.com)
    3 Laquer thinner
    4 Baking soda
    5 Carburetor cleaner (spray)
    6 A combination ot a (dentist)-scraper for the panel lines + a sanding sponge (Tamiya, 3M or cheapest AmazingArt)
    I just looked at your video of the Alfa Romeo 155 V6 Ti DTM, fantastic work but why put so much effort into cutting the engine-hood, building an engine, building a rollcage and then do nothing on the windscreen wiper? A bit of masking tape and a bit of paint or a permanent marker! would make a big difference. The same goes for the window frames: make the bottom of the side windows-frame black and the entire window-frames of the front- and rear windows black with either paint or a permanent marker and your cars go up from 9.50 out of 10 to 10 out of 10 !
    BTW I love your videos and the choice of cars, I too love race- and rallycars, but i'm more into 1:43 and 1:24. Would you ever consider doing a 1:43 or 1:24?
    I think about Burago 1:43 + 1:24 Ford Escort RS Cosworth or Ford Focus WRC, 1:43 Solido Lancia 037 Rally, 1:43 CorgiToys SilkCut Jaguar XJR-9 or Ferrari 512 BB LM or ;24 Burago Renault 5 Turbo (re-issue) to name a few. Don't get me wrong i really like your videos, and i learn a lot from you !! I hope you respond. THANK YOU.
