    Just a tip, nothing wrong with using some flux when using desolder braid... some braids just won't cooperate without out it and some (with included flux in the braid) just don't help enough on their own.

    The rainbow screen issue is a common problem on Game Gears when doing LCD upgrades as well. I've seen this exact issue reported on the BennVenn discord a few times, no one seems totally know ×hy it happens. Only occurs when cycling power off/on quickly.

    @AlastorYT ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Did you only try this kit using an Everdrive? I know the Everdrive requires a certain amount of power to operate correctly without problems. Also, with the removal of caps and using USB-C I'm curious if the Game Gear is getting the appropriate amount of V/W to power everything.

    I had the same issue on my game gear it was the 5v supply these old gg need 5.5volts so you may need to mod your supply it’s a problem with aging asic’s and aging boards upping the voltage solves it not sure if the mod could take it so you might have to check with them as on a standard gg setup you can mod the power board to up it to 5.3-5.5volts

  • @kwigbo

    Is this an issue with the use of an everdrive? Does the issue happen when you use a real cart?

  • @morbital
    @morbital ปีที่แล้ว +2

    As someone who works extensively with HDMI professionally I would test it with more than just 6 cables. Also there might be an issue with power, try isolated the power supply on a different circuit and then on the same circuit as TV or capture to see if the issues persist, as well as test different USB-C cables.
    As others have mentioned as well, try using a real cart vs an everdrive.
    To me it seems like there's lots of variables to still look at before not recommending this unit.

    • @dubesinhower
      @dubesinhower  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Would you, as the consumer of a product, test it more then 6 times after it doesn't work? Would you completely change your setup trying to get it to work?
      I used multiple USB C cables and power supplies on different TVs, and as far as I'm concerned I'm using it as advertised.
      I'm helping them gather information and do testing, but it's not my responsibility to figure out the issues, especially with the new console that they sent me.

      @ericochoa4034 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dubesinhower exactly it should work right out of the box especially for the price. If there are problems then the product shouldn't be released.

      @@dubesinhower Fair enough. In my business (film production) I'm not able to give up on equipment when millions rely on "getting the shot". So I've learned tricks to try my best to accomplish that, if that means I try 20 different HDMI cables, sometimes that's what it takes.

    • @ericochoa4034
      @ericochoa4034 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@morbitalof course lol I know it's not a Samsung phone but hell even mass produced items aren't perfect either but they should at least be functional. All I'm saying is if there are problems that major then just fix it before you release it. I know it's not perfect and you can't fix all the issues but it seems the issues he was having were pretty bad to the point of it not being playable. Either way I'm glad he's pointing out the issues so hopefully they can be resolved.

  • @jd213_
    @jd213_ ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Ah, I was considering this kit since I have 2 broken Game Gears (recapped but both immediately turn off after powering on). Was hoping this kit would make them easier to repair, but guess I should hold off for now.
    Maybe a QSB would also be good for those handful of wires you need to solder.

    • @mjc0961
      @mjc0961 ปีที่แล้ว

      A custom flex cable/ribbon seems like a better solution than a QSB.

    Wow, that's a massive bummer. I got mine in the mail a week ago, but haven't had time to install it. This sounds like it's a common issue...very disappointing. Maybe Voultar will take a look and see if these can be fixed.

    Thanks for this interesting video. Gonna pass on this product even though m a big fan of SegaGG. My Mcwill mod VGA out looks really good, and I even made a GG satellite to broadcast the image over the air to my CRT TV. I also have the harness for an SMS controller so that I could play co-op SMS titles like Time Soldier with my buddy.
