The subject matter is fantastic the delivery is outstanding keep up the great work. You might be able to make a small mint providing the services that you cover on your fantastic channel sir. im not the biggest fan of the consolized handhelds there hasn't been much if any development into fpga or hardware clones of handhelds in general so seeing the limited supply of these consoles we do have get turned into consoles irks me
      the other mods people do I'm fine with because when all is said and done you still have a console left over its just improved either backlights or better video output of the dying disk drive replaced
      but the consolized versions cease to be handhelds and are effectively destroyed unless you want to go to great lengths to restore them

    I’d like some elaboration on the Master System functionality. Do you mean it can physically play Master System games without the Master Gear Converter or do you mean the GGHD has some extra sauce for whenever a Master System game happens to be running instead of a Game Gear one? Also, form factor wise does the consolizer accept the Master Gear Converter or no?

    • @skins4thewin
      @skins4thewin 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A Game Gear can play Master System roms stock. You just need the cart adapter. There is no "extra sauce", the game gear can already do that :) He's just saying that the kit can properly display Master System games.
      Of course you'd need a cart adapter if you want to play actual SMS games. That is a good question about whether the case can fit a converter or not tho. Would like to know that myself.

    I have an old Game Gear that a coworker and I tried to LED backlight back in 2007/2008/2009 (can't remember exactly). After the first attempt failed (LEDs weren't bright enough), I chickened out and put it in storage. Besides needing a recapping, it would be ideal for this mod, thought I don't trust my soldering skill are up to snuff for some of those more delicate soldering points like the resistors and soldering the GGHD board to specific pins on the LCD connector pins.
    With the cheapest kit being $160 and my Analogue Pocket shipping soon and arriving before the end of the year, I thinking eventually getting a Pocket Dock may be cheaper in the end.

    One negative I might observe which has not been previously mentioned. I did not see that any 15KHz analog video capability offered. This can be done over HDMI as seen with MiSTer. 31KHz analog video, which should be achievable via an HDMI to VGA converter, just is not good enough :)
    A positive to this mod is that your recapping became a whole lot easier (if even necessary), as it does not use the power or audio amplifier boards and there are six fewer capacitors on the main board that need to be replaced.

      @@NerdlyPleasures I never did really understand the difference when it comes to the KHz of the signal & how it portains to consumer TV's/Computer monitors. Will have to look into that a bit more.

    It seems there’s not much of a recess for the game controller and the pins are just exposed. I know they’re pretty strong but without the metal shield it would seem that with a controller or dongle attached there’s a chance that there would be more leverage to bend them i.e. someone pulls to hard on the controller cable at an angle or something hits the dongle from any side and bends the pin.

    Good luck finding many Sega Game Gears in working or non-working conditions making consoles out of them. Then you might like to sell them on Ebay or Kijiji as options making top dollar.

    Did you happen to lag test this kit by chance? I would definitely recommend getting a Time Sleuth. It's inexpensive & very easy to use & will allow you to feature those tests in your videos here! Lag testing should be an absolute must when dealing with any sort of video game mod. I definitely won't be buying the kit til I see some lag numbers.

    • @terencehill2320
      @terencehill2320 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There is no lag, its original hardware and I tested it personally.

    • @skins4thewin
      @skins4thewin หลายเดือนก่อน

      @terencehill2320 It being original hardware has nothing to do with it. The kit itself is doing some upscaling which like any upscaler may or may not add some lag to the mix, thus it still needs to be lag tested proper.
      If the upscaling was done properly then it should indeed add very minimal lag. What method did you use to test it?

    Interesting to see. Now it's possible to play say. The Game Gear Sonic games on this with say a GG Everdrive X7 as an alternative to something like Sonic Adventure DX on the GameCube (Granted. The one new copy I saw on Ebay while typing this on November 26th 2022. Was going for only 60 bucks which IS a steal compared to 1st party titles. But on the other hand. The stock GameCube controller's D-Pad is pretty bad. But I digress)

    Are you using a signal converter to read games from a GameGear and play it on your TV with a Genesys controller ?
    I mean, it surely is fun to build but whats the point versus emulation on PC in this particular case ?

    Man, does anyone know what music he uses in the background of these videos? I've looked for what feels like a year of my life trying to find out where I can listen to this music, but I have no idea. The only music that he seems to link in his description is the intro, but I'm curious about the music he plays in the middle of the video.
    Edit: NO WAY, I ACCTUALLY SHAZAMED IT. It looks like it is called "Salt Lamp" and its made by Jobii.

    If you’re a GG enthusiast then IMO the pre assembled isn’t a terrible price. The main cost is the soldering work which isn’t easy for the majority of us. The only reason against the cost is it’s still just a GG and I’d gladly put that money towards the GBA Consolizer instead 😅. GG is also easy to emulate and I’m all for original hardware but I don’t care if it’s 16bit era and earlier. Anything after I prefer original hardware.
