Man...I wish I had a workshop... it's the only thing keeping me from doing my own work on stuff that I can't do in the parking lot.

Thank you for the great video. I wrote the steps down, and the tools needed. Fortunately, my vice came with soft jaws. I didn't even notice until you pointed it out. The one issue I had, and putting it here for those that run into it, I had one top bolt that wouldn't come off. Finally, after some heat with a torch, then tapping around it with a hammer (LIGHTLY!), it finally came loose.

Thank you for your excellent video that guided me thru the rebuild of my 2009 V-Strom forks even thought I have done other forks before this time I did a complete rebuild kit with bushing as mileage was 55000 /87000 km. This used V-Strom came to me with a shop report that fork seals and headset bearings were needed for safety inspection but it became obvious to me once the front end was apart that all the free play in the front end was in the fork bushings only. Since I ordered the new headset roller bearings and was in there I replaced the Headset so all the front end is renewed and bike runs straight as a die with hands off the bars.
Just doing forks on my DL, had a look because it's been a while since I did it last time. Great video, thanks!

Was a breeze. Even splurged on the Allen key lime you've got. Super handy to have! Fresh springs and drop in cartridges make it feel pretty good!
Great how to. I could have used this last year when I did fork seals on my 07 650.!! Pretty simple fork. I think it took longer to remove and re-install the forks than the actual fork seals.

The "good book" says to install the narrow portion of the fork spring downwards. And it makes sense... it needs to seat propperly on the oil stopper at the bottom and on the washer at the top.
If monted in reverse it won't seat propperly and it can "wiggle" arround. A few scrapes on the inner cylinder is not such a big problem, BUT with scratches come metal shavings... and you reaally don't want metal shavings in such tight tolerances friction areas.

I have an 07. I put heavier springs in because they where the wrong weight and the springs would compress and clack against the sides on larger bumps (even on the street). No more dive. Also drilled out the damper holes (recommended in the kit) and put race tech gold valve cartage emulators in them. I think several companies actually make them. They work way better now. It converts them to have a shim and valve stack.

Same problem here.When i put the bike in a deep hole,on the rocks and to a poor road i have knock knock always.Also when I get off or abhor suddenly pavements I have the same result.The noise is irritating.
Can we fix this problem with put the down heavier side up?

im doing a fork seal yamaha dt 50 with a 75cc cilinder worked and a oko 26 carburator and magnetic worked to. 1995 dt lc 50 CC.

A sleeve for 1 1/4 inch pipe makes a good tool to seat the bushing and seal. You will need to either cut it so that the interior stop is gone or use a dremel to cut it out. Also you will need to make a cut in one side so it will fit the tube. I used a 1 3/4 inch Forstner bit to drill through a 4x4 to make a hammering tool.

I do it no matter what. It helps the tube to hold a thin layer of oil that allows the seal to slide easily

If the spring was in the wrong position for unsprung weight , Doesn’t that tell you that the forks were serviced at least once before, and were reassembled incorrectly? In other words, perhaps that wasn’t the original oil from the factory?
True. Although I see lots come that way from the factory. I don’t think that they pay much attention at the factory. Also it really doesn’t make much difference on a vstrom. I just wanted to give a little bit of old school info. Hard to say about the oil but the bike only has about 12,000 miles and it was gross.
According to the Suzuki Service Manual, the spring is mounted with the tighter coils facing downwards.
@@Scubaron I can confirm. "The smaller spring pitch end must face downward."
The service manual says that the spring should be installed narrow side downwards.
And it makes sense, that way it seats propperly both on the oil stopper (the thing with the oil holes) and on the top washer.
Having your spring not seated propperly can lead to "wiggling" and "wiggling" means rubbing... rubbing eventually leads to fine metal shavings.... and you REAAALY don't need fine metal shavings in that system.
