    Great video u mention spacer performance. I pulled my 2007 525 EXC front forks apart and it contains a 4.6 spring But only 2 preload spacers were installed. The 10mm and 2.5mm. The fork diagram shows 2 more spacers, a 1.5 and 5mm. Why would these be removed and what happens to fork performance. Im switching to the 4.4 springs for my weight. Do I need the missing spacers are the required for the 4.4 springs? What will happen to fork performance with and without?

    • @highlandcycles
      @highlandcycles  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question. So those spacers are installed at the factory based on the actual length of the springs when measured in the fork. Springs are all a little different because of the way they are made. Anyway the put spacers in there to make the installed height right. When you get your other springs you should really measure also. Most people don’t and honestly it doesn’t seem to effect the performance a ton unless the springs are way different from the others.

    Thanks for the video, good refresher for me, it's been 2 years since I've replaced a seal(I know, knock on wood) on an open chamber fork. Changing fluid on open chamber is sure easy to boot.
    Our family has a new to us bike with 4cs forks, left leg is slightly weeping, seal saver action not working as of yet, I hope its just 1 grain of sand I can get out. How much harder is a seal change on a 4cs fork? I haven't even bought the tools yet. I hear there is nitrogen in there?
    Also where can I find that trick pan(I can use for so many things)?
    your cleaner, where can I find that can, and what to put in it, at some point it must be cheaper than spray carb cleaner(and more green, maybe)

    • @highlandcycles
      @highlandcycles  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brad Lu no nitrogen in a 4CS. They are pretty easy to change. A little odd but not hard. I should do a vid on them. The pan I had custom build by a metal fab shop in town. It’s stainless. The brake cleaner can you can get from amazon. It’s just a pressurizable can. The actual cleaner I buy from a local company in 5 gallon pails. It’s good stuff. Zep makes good stuff too.

    I love watching your videos, big fan from here in the UK. I have the older '04 version of these 48mm OC fork without preload adjuster, do you know if this newer version is noticeably better? apparently the mid piston is a couple millimetres smaller and obviously has the normal two bushings instead of 3 bushings in mine.

    Do you have to have an impact to get the base valve back in? I have the exact forks and my ratchet seems to be spinning the base valve nut freely with the internals. I thought maybe they locked into place but that doesn’t seem to be the case
