    Always wondered if Kobe's career would've been better or worse or the same pretty much, had he stayed with Charlotte on draft night.

      Probably something like a erratic Vince Carter early in his career. Charlotte Hornets didn't have a winning culture so Bryant would have probably left free agency. Playing for stats and not winning. Who in your top 10 all-time?

      He’d have still been a superstar. With his work ethic, there’s no way he wouldn’t have. He just wouldn’t have had as much team success. At least unless they’d still end up getting Baron Davis and Jamal Mashburn, then maybe would have made a little bit of noise.

      What if the Washington Wizards never gave up on Rasheed Wallace, Ben Wallace, Rip Hamilton to help the Pistons get some chips during the 2000's and they traded Chris Webber in his prime to Sacramento for old ass broken ran down Mitch I can chuck 3's and hurt my knees Richmond and Michael I can't score over 13pts Smith

    Remember now, the 76ers had the number 2 pick in 1997. If Van Horn goes to the Spurs, Duncan would go to Philly and he doesn't get traded to the Nets.....Now Philly would have Iverson and Duncan. That would've been extremely interesting

    If Kobe hadn’t had that pre draft workout in LA then he probably wouldn’t have ended up in Charlotte. He’d have gone higher. The story went that after speaking to West, Kobe was determined to get to LA and put the word out that any team that drafted him and didn’t trade him there wouldn’t get him. He was threatening to go play in Italy if he didn’t go to LA. So Charlotte drafted because they wanted Divac.

  • @gilbertbrown4183

    The Houston Rockets could have had Jordan, Olajuwon and Drexler on the same team. If Len Bias wouldn't have passed away, playing with Bird, McHale, Parish, Dennis Johnson. Carmelo getting drafted by the Detroit Pistons.

    Robinson being there to mentor Duncan was definitely helpful. I don't agree, Duncan was the slam dunk (pun intended) number one pick at the time, where the Celtics and other teams were straight tanking for him. Minnesota getting caught trying to skirt the cap was a real bizarre story. KG was on his way with Marbury, he needed another shooter or point guard. As for Kobe, him staying in Charlotte could've had a huge ripple effect, the Hornets probably never leave for New Orleans, we don't know if Phil Jackson goes to Charlotte, since the Triangle was well catered towards Shaq and Kobe.

    In my mind, biggest what if of the 90s, is what if cold war didnt keep Sabonis from arriving to Portland before Blazers made the finals. Maybe Bulls cant compete against a dominant center and Jordan retires with... lets say two rings?

    • @TheRetroWoman80
      @TheRetroWoman80 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maybe. That's an interesting thought because the Bulls had centers but they were never dominant, not even Luc Longley when he was at his best. What made the Bulls the dynasty they became were their guards. But Portland had great ones too and Sabonis would have meshed perfect with them.

    I love your content, but honestly Duncan was a sure pick at first, the second pick was a questionable thing... I was reading ton of basketball magazines and it was going to be the DUNCAN pick ( in this thinking it fails, if you go that way that What if Nets won the 1st pick it can be)
    Joe Smith- never understood why to get Smith who played the same position like KG, not going for a shooting guard or a real small forward or Center. I'm more curious if he stays on GSW for that 80million dollar deal, would he become an all-star? Getting better as a first option?
    Kobe- for this as well you need to check the draft period, all knew he has talent but was like a prospect (as he was in real time), he told the teams which teams he would play for, for many he said he would go to play in Italy... Hornets got Vlade, while the Cavs drafted Potapenko... I think he would have been similar to AI, as an individualist who never pass, a bit similar to early Jordan.

    In 1998-99, I did my "50 All Time Worst NBA Players," and "Franchise Nightmare Team" for each team. Here are some comments from my friends: "Oh come on, you have to take Tracy McGrady off of your all-time worst team." And, they disagreed when I also put Antoine Carr, John Battle, Tyrone Corbin, Frank Johnson, Dana Barros and Terry Teagle on my All-Time Worst List.

  • @mickeylee2624
    @mickeylee2624 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Really great points!
    I would add that the Duncan-Van Horn switch would have prevented the current false narrative of TD being a PF because even with his entire career in San Antonio, he played more seasons as a Center. Had he been drafted by the Nets, he likely would have been a Center his entire career without having Robinson to do the dirty work dealing with the physically demanding opponents like Shaq.
    The Kobe one is interesting because had Charlotte kept him, he may have gotten closer to MJ from a statistical perspective, being in the historically weak Leastern Conference era. However, it also would have prevented the NBA to push the Lakers over the Jailblazers and Kings without such an obvious power pairing with Shaq (who may have ended his career with only 1 or 2 titles). In fact, San Antonio may have won another title as well as Portland and Sacramento each taking one.
    KG, as with Juwan Howard, is partly to blame for the Joe Smith scandal because they started the insane $100+ million contracts that kneecapped their respective team's salary cap. Certainly, he is entitled to earning as much pay as possible, but had he taken a small discount to legitimately attract free agents, Smith/McHale/T-Wolves management would have not cheated.

    I just looked at the KG one today.
    Minnesota was a playoff team every year they lost a pick and the #1 seed in 2004. They got their picks back in 2003 (Ndudi Ebi at #26) and 2005 (Rashad McCants at #14).
    2001 they could have taken Tony Parker but realistically they had Terrell Brandon and Chauncey Billips and they probably would have taken Brendan Haywood. He was aite
    2002 i think best case scenario is they take Tayshaun Prince but I don't know if he helps them as much as that hurts Detroit who is in another conference and helps the Lakers who probably could have beat MN with Tayshaun and surely would beaten Indiana again who might've gotten past a Detroit team without Tayshaun, remember the clutch block on Reggie Miller.
    2004 they were #1 in the west and could have got Anderson Varejão. Yawn.
    So it wasn't really that big of a deal.
    It's like, imagine if the 90s Bulls lost all their draft picks.
    As for trading the picks, they were all in the 20s until 2005 so I don't think they would have got much.
    Minnesota and KG just didn't get it done. But in fairness, it was a brutal stretch for a western conference team to try to grow into a contender.
    If anything, you could say, that since the penalty didn't matter, they should have cheated for a more impactful player. Like they should have got Sprewell in 99 or something
    And the Kobe one...
    Kobe wanted to go to LA. That Charlotte traded him is not dumb. The dumb thing is that they got Vlade Divac and like three teams ahead of Charlotte took centers who weren't half as good as Vlade Divac.
    Like if you're going to take a shitty center and hope for the best, just take Kobe and trade him for Vlade Divac who went to the Finals with Magic Johnson and clearly knows a thing or two about basketball.
    Clippers, Dallas, Indiana, Golden State... get smarter guys 😆
