    Hey Guys, I realize I misspoke on some parts:
    AI was voted to the Top 75 Team in 2001 [2021],
    Ray Allen played for 8 years [18],
    Ray Allen won the championship with the Heat in 2003 [2013],
    Wright's ex-wife was sentenced in 2009 [2019].
    This video was a beast to make but I had a lot of fun...
    Thanks for watching!

      True. People fail to recognize that the Lakers won three championships in a row with Phil Jackson coaching a ROTY center in his prime years, and then two more championships with Phil Jackson coaching a ROTY center in his prime years. In the years between, overrated Cope Bryant did nothing of value in what should have been his own prime years. Oh, and Derek Fisher was part of the Shaq Lakers, then left, then got back and was a part of the Pau Gasol Lakers.

    Jerry West is spectacular. Prolly, he advised Kobe to not take the path to collegiate teams and declare for draft on a guarantee that the Lakers would pick him and will do miles to get him. Because that year, Jerry West prolly knew that it'll be a stacked draft class and NBA Teams and GMs wouldn't want to gamble on a highschool student who was 17 or 18 years old that time.

      Kobe's agent declared Kobe wouldn't play for anyone but the Lakers... so instead of picking Kobe and getting into silly shenanigans getting him to actually play or trying to trade him, teams took other players... so it was really unfair of him/his agent/parents to do this .... but he was great, so no one cared. Therefore whole premise of teams simply missing on him is false.

    • @mrmacross
      @mrmacross ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@szmike I largely agree with your point, but I'm sure there are some teams who had Kobe too low on their draft boards and we shouldn't let them off the hook for this discussion, either.

    • @szmike
      @szmike ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mrmacross yes and no.... hindsight is 20/20....
      1.pretty much everyone thought he would be all-star (LeBron predraft was viewed kinda the same)
      2.any sane GM would think twice in such situation: there was small risk he wouldn't become all-star; Kobe already had big ego (he would back it with his play, but who knew?), which was red flag; team would get disgruntled player right off the bat and would have to deal with it somehow; high school players were rare in draft; the draft was pretty good anyway; at the end of the day GM would risk his job too.
      Thus I wouldn't blame anyone for not taking the risk. Had anyone done that, things might have pan out differently. We'll never know. Kobe required special coach too, he was kinda rough, especially early.

    The reason why Kobe "dropped" to the 13th pick is because he said he would not sign with any team that draft him unless it was the Lakers or some other team (I think it was a short list of 2 or 3 teams) He said he would go play in Europe instead.
    That's why everyone passed on him. Not because they thought there were better players out there.

      1996 has more champions, more All-Star appearances, more NBA accollades. The top 3 were better in 1984 but if were looking at the whole draft, 1996 has it beat imo.

    • @gangstagummybear3432
      @gangstagummybear3432 ปีที่แล้ว

      These 2 draft classes are honestly weirdly compared, you have the 96 draft that was guard heavy, while 84 was kinda all over the place. Saying Jordan was better than the guards of the 96 draft is no matter how you look at it, difficult, why? We won't get into championship talks, cause Jordan didn't win anything when he was his most dominant as a heavy iso scorer, except scoring titles, which I am sure he wouldn't have as many if the 96 draft guards were playing when Jordan was.
      Hakeem was better than the 96 draft centers I guess, and Barkley was better than the 96 power forwards I guess; I say, "I guess" cause Hakeem brought something new to the league in his time, which was footwork that allowed him to work the paint unlike anything the league had ever seen. The centers of 96 that actually mattered, were in too much trouble in their careers to reach their potential.
      Stockton might have only looked so special cause he was playing alongside one of the highest scoring players in NBA history for most of his career.
      All in all, the 84 draft had way too many players, for me to give them the nod over the 96 or 03 draft, for just 4 insanely overhyped players, it is next to impossible to truly claim a player is actually "better" than another player, and that even moreso in the case of AI, the guy is in his own bracket, no one at that height, with a background that isn't even basketball to start with, is anywhere near Iverson

    • @Amm17ar
      @Amm17ar ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gangstagummybear3432 You make some good points, but youre missing the point of comparing drafts. Its the entire draft that should be looked at. Top end talent does matter, but the 96 draft was SIGNFICANTLY better than the 84 draft. Stockton, Hakeem, Jordan, Thorpe, Perkins and Willis were the only notable players from the 84 draft. The drop off between Stockton, Jordan, Barkley and Hakeem and the rest is pretty big though. I agree the top end is better, but is it really? Nash compares decently well with Stockton, and Hakeem doesnt really have a match in the 96 draft. But Jordan and Kobe are close enough that people can have a somewhat reasonable debate over who was better (even though its clearly Jordan, the fact that we can even debate them, means its close enough) But in terms of looking at both drafts as a whole, Ray Allen, Camby, Shareef, Walker, Wright, Kittles, Stojakovic, O'neal, Ilgauskas, Derrick Fisher, ....The 96 draft has SO many more impactful players.....So many big roles and so many more players that played big minutes for a lot of franchises. If were looking at both drafts, the 96 draft had longer careers, more impactful players that stayed in the league and put up stats. Imo the 96 Draft is clearly better, and only the 2003 draft compares. If we get over the Jordan bias, the 86 draft isnt THAT much better....
