Transmission is a RPM Level V 4L65. I did this because I already had the built trans in the car and I wanted to try something different as far as shifters go. You don't have to use the 3 rods to the right if you don't want to, the lever to the far left operates like a normal PRND lever. I don't manually go through gears at the drag strip (I just leave it in 3), but it is fun to use the shifter on the street. Shifter can be returned to stock. Thanks for watching.
FAQ:
Why? Because ☝.
Why not just get a manual? I have two other cars with manual gearboxes (including my daily driver). Also, doing a manual swap is a lot more costly than just the shifter.
Can you skip gears? Not with my setup. You go through the gears sequentially.
Does this work with MVB? Yes, but would not recommend MVB on a 4L65 (get a more durable trans).
Is the car for sale? No, but I can't stop you from making an offer.

2006 Pontiac GTO, acceleration, launch
Man, everything is in unison… From the engine, stall, and transmission shifts…👍🏾✌🏾
Yea that's how it usually goes, cause of timing chains and whatnot 😂
66 GTO, now that is a dream car of mine.
Never in a 442 , came out in 1983 hurst olds , used 2 years , only in 83 and 84 hurst . Earlier olds used hurst dual gate . GTO used straight dual gate , olds had a curved shifter . Hurst brought out a lightning shifter in 83 for aftermarket , in 2 models , one for direct fit in 2nd gen console for camaro and firebird , and other with a custom little cover for non console . I bought one in 1984 for my 68 firebird , but then installed it in my 1971 442. Blew everybodys mind . Had a 455 340 hp, turbo 400. Would chip 3rd gear at 90 mph . Installed a shift kit by B&M , and 2nd gear would chirp sideways , but wouldn't chirp 3rd anymore. I was pissed!
Hurst Lightining Rods shifters came standard in the black 1983 and silver 1984 Hurst/Olds just like the OP said. Hurst did offer the shifters for sale over the counter to be used in a universal type of install as well but they were more of a gimmick although they did exactly what they were supposed to do.
The main reason Hurst came up with this design for their H/O branded Cutlass's in those years was to mimick the Lenco planetary trans and shifter arrangement found in all of NHRA pro stock at the time. Warren Johnson was on top of his game in 1983 and 1984 with a couple NHRA championships under his belt already and he had a deal with Oldsmobile division, racing a black H/O bodied pro stock in 83 and a silver one in 84 appearing like the production vehicles. At the same time he was working on the DRCE "drag race competition engine" for pro stock division and was showing that platform very successful. The DRCE was really the first symmetrical port aftermarket cylinder head and aluminum engine block with a lot of the tricks and mods learned on the big block Chevrolet engine widely used in pro stock. The DRCE line of parts could be bought straight from GM and especially thr Oldsmobile division during this time as the whole project was GM backed and supported.
Dad and me were at Indy labor day weekend for US Nationals in 1983 and 84. We happened upon Warren in the pits with the 1983 black car and just checking things out. We said hello and he was obviously relaxed at this particular time between rounds. Dad got to talking with him about a DRCE to purchase, just for kicks. Warren would sell us a turn key 500 cubic inch DRCE engine built by Warren in his shop guaranteed to make 1500hp and the cost? A bargain at $24,000 back then! Of course many middle class homes could be had for about that same number in 1983. I know if he could have afforded it dad would have placed his order that day and we would have went racing, LoL. Of course that level of drag racing has never been inexpensive and today's costs for even small tire no prep stuff is astronomical. It's all very cool however. Was then and still is now.
It's like the old lightning shifters from back in the day (I'm 18 but have been around many muscle cars so much I have a ratchet shifter in a 80s s10 with a Buick 455) but anyways sick gto man
Nothing like. Those were automatic transmissions with extra controllable gates. This is more similar to a Lenco, stackable planetary reduction gear sets.
Just came back to this video to say I bought a 2004 GTO today in yellow has the 2005-6 exaust style and 2006 hood
Love S10 V8 swaps.
I miss my GTO !!!!
I think something is out of adjustment or something. When you shift 2-3, the 3-4 lever isn't supposed to move until you pull the lever.

Mine works a little differently than the video you posted b/c I had to shorten the shifter box to fit flush with the center console, but it still works great. Check out the full video of me going through the gears on my channel
That's what I wondered why the forth gear moved when he hit third gear also
Can someone explain how does that shifter work? I haven't seen anything like this before and it looks pretty cool
It's a kit shifter for automatic muscle cars. It pretty much juwt ammounts to incredibly gimmicky attempt at tiptronic/manual mode in automatic transmission.
Its for drag racing apparently, but only makes sense on old silly 3 and 4 speed automatic sloshboxes that just stupidly refused to shift quickly.
Manual is still way to go and to truly have fun, this is just a silly gimmick.
That's a Lenco gearbox check it out
never seen this pretty cool
Similar to the Hurst lightning shifter in the 83-84 hurst olds.
HOLDEN MONARO 🇦🇺🦁💪🤙😤🍻🔥
Nice now I don't have to sell my soul to buy a lenco 😂😂
Is like a lenco
Its a left hand drive Monaro!
Bro gonna time travel i guess 😅
Ready were are going to take- off🎉
Why does 4th go with 3rd
My guess is that 4th (the last gear) purposely goes down . And you shift up for 4th instead of down. Which will reset the other previous gears once 4th is shifted.
@@Alien_Nukesbut if you listen carefully to the revs it sounds like 4th gear is engaged, too low revs for a single gearshift...
I have that set up in my camaro
Bro is extra
If you shift starting at the farthest from you working inward, you won't risk popping out of gear....
I don't understand, why not just a regular standard transmission?
But what if you push all 3 shifter stick forward at the same time ?
Does it go back to Drive ?
No, It goes back in time.
I heard it takes a screenshot
No way lol
Still sounds computer controlled
Because it is. Its just a silly gimmick that overcomplicates original tiptronic-like function.
Just get a manuao GTO or swap it to manual. This is just silly.
I thought it shifts left to right??
Why is the 4th lever shifting when you shift the 3rd lever?!
You go through the gears sequentially, no skipping 1-->2-->3-->4. When you shift 2-->3, the 3-->4 lever moves bc of the way the shifter mechanism works. It kind of unlocks the next rod (that's what you're seeing when you see the 3-4 rod move after the 2-3 shift).
Why have the extra knob then?
@@andyheinecke1280 little overkill to be making what looks like no more than 400hp.
@@QueensGTO_Viper he means 3 n 4 levers move togheter, so it s a 3 speed unit?
what is the engine size
So... is it broken?
Lemco?
Lenco
@@pudge_gaming2042 thanks
@@frightenedskillet1051not a lenco.This is an automatic transmission.
@@ripnandtearingcould have sworn I saw the clutch foot actuatin
What kind of gear selector is that? I never seen one three speed manual looking with no clutch ?
6 speed manual way better
Im 41 Yo. This is the first time i see a shifter like this . What car is this ?
Why spend all that money..i know engines and their sounds and that thing didn't make much lol ..a stock box would he fine😅
Yes, but this one is porn. 😃
Manual swap would be much better and make many more nice noises.
why does the 4 get yanked along with the 3? looks like you can't shift into third gear that way
WTF
am i the only one noticing it shifting fuler late?
Fast but looks boring to drive
🫤
Seems like a lenco but worse 😂😂😂
gto = get tools out
Tf are you talking about? That generation of GTO was bulletproof. The 5.7 & 6.0 were both great. Must be a smooth brain ford fan without a car in the driveway
@@SouthTexasCollectibles23explain my almost brand new hsv gto shitting itself 5 months after being bought 🤣
That’s one ugly shifter😳.
slow
Terrible
Sounds weak 👎
Needs a jmod to really slam into those gear
