I think that flame moss will come back with the right amount of care. I would keep a few small bits of rock and put it in a jar somewhere that doesn't get too much light. I think you'll be surprised at it's come back. I had a similar issue with Christmas moss a while back. I went crazy with light like i would with Monte Carlo.
I really appreciate these videos where you show the hard side of the hobby. You're a big inspiration for my aquarium and my favourite fishtuber at the moment for sure!
I very much appreciate this. To publicly display your own failure so that others can become more educated and assured in their struggles is a noble act. Well done sir...no failure in this video at all.
Wow. Thank you for sharing this part of the experiment that no one really shows or talks about. I don't have any experience with dry start nor flame moss. But this inspired me to try one.
I know this is a year old video but it showed up in my recommended the day I started a dry start with Java moss so it was perfect timing. Thanks for reminding me that I have to be careful and not to neglect my tank!
Sometimes we do right, sometimes not. Here’s a great tip also. Don’t lay your dry start setup out in the sun on your deck. Cooked off half of my dry start Monte Carlo when the temps rose to over 50C. Live and learn. Thanks for sharing the good AND the bad!
As a beginner, this video was really helpful in helping me think about what could possibly go wrong in the process. Not many content creators make videos like this, and as a beginner, its hard to tell where you went wrong, so this is actually a really really helpful and insightful video. I'm sorry about your tank, hope things got better soon. Thank you for the video!!!
The tank of life maybe more suitable now 4:38 Ofcourse we mess up. I gave up on mosses since my region is always hot. And have redone a tank after messing up soil ratio. But patience is something that grows up with this
Nice little piece on a failed attempt. Good way to salvage some content and also be transparent with everyone. I had a dry start I was trying with hairgrass that was really taking forever, I added monte carlo and it took off. The hairgrass started to fill in also. I'm enjoying your content. Keep it up.
I'm trying Taiwan flamemoss now. It's actually my first tank ever. 3 Days in and I'm seeing some Brown moss. My Light is a bit bright for the tank so I'll adjust the timing.
I tried a starting some moss, using the dry start method on some rocks with a carpet of HC. The HC took off and did awesome the moss didn’t make it so don’t feel bad. I think it’s due to the lack of nutrients available on the rocks. I have seen other videos where people have used yogurt as a fertilizer during the dry start. I don’t know if you tried that.
I have seen the yogurt method around. Maybe I'll give it a shot! For this specific attempt I was using crushed up activated soil and mixing it in with the moss before I spread it on the rocks with a paint brush.
Hey! Amazing video as always, i love your videography work. Found the channel about a week ago and have watched every video since! How is hair grass for carpeting in your opinion? Thanks in advance, and keep up the great work.
Thank you so much! I love hair grass! With and without co2 it is a great look. In low tech tanks, I love to you use it a detail plant in corners of hardscape
@@WorldofWhasian Awesome! I’ll have to give it a try. I shoot on a Canon EOS 5d Mark ii with a Rokinon 35mm 1.4, would love to know what setup you’re using!
When you have no water the medium light becomes high light so u need to put that into consideration. Sorry you found out the hard way but it’s better than ignorance keep it up!

That's the move! Saved a couple of bits. I really hope to see it make a come back!
I second this opinion.
Patience is key.

I appreciate you for watching and I'm thankful that you enjoy the honesty; there's always so much behind the scenes that often doesn't work out.
I very much appreciate this. To publicly display your own failure so that others can become more educated and assured in their struggles is a noble act. Well done sir...no failure in this video at all.
Thank you so much for watching! I appreciate the kinds words!
Wanted to watch it earlier but couldnt but
Also goodluck on trying to save the tank
Thank you!
You learn the most from your failures. Love the video ALEX!
Thank you big dawg! I appreciate you

Definitely try it out my man! I will be trying it again some time soon.
I respect how you show and admit when you fail a scape, even though I personally would probably not do so myself lol
It happens to the best of us!

A lot of respect for you to admit your own failures online and allow people to learn from your experience!
Thank you so much my man!

Love your outlook on this. Anything truly worth doing is never easy.
Thank you! I agree!

Couldn't agree more! This hobby never stops teaching us.

Thank you so much! Glad I was able to salvage some of it. Is your dry start tank flooded now!? Hopefully it worked out!
@@WorldofWhasian not yet. I'm dragging my feet. I don't have a CO2 rig for it and I'm worried the monte carlo might melt without it.
I have heaps of flame moss. Very successful growth. Just fill it up with water hit up with co2 and give it couple weeks it’ll bounce back
Sounds like a good idea! Saved some bits of hard scape so maybe I'll give it a shot!
I failed badly as well. Despite the glass being wet, and the substrate being moist, the rocks and wood is dry and the moss wont attach itself at all.
Sorry that failed but I’m sure you will get it right going forward. Another great video Alex!

what substrate are you using? I love the way it looks!
This is UNS controsoil!

SUBBED smooth talker cool demeanour honest stuff genuine stuff nice
Thank you! I appreciate that!
Come back please I miss your videos
I think you don’t need the little opening for gas exchange. Opening for 30 sec 1/day is enough in my experience
Will try that next time around. Thank you!

Thanks for the input! Will definitely keep this in mind going forward!
try java moss
Maybe I will 😎
Have you got mold in your DSM? (like spiderwebs) what do you do if this happens? 🫢
Inspiring video! Most people only share their successes but this is helpful to so many! 🫶🏻
Thank you KIKI!
