    Thanks, Paul! Love my Spark! And I adopted your recording technique of using the headphone jack, a stereo breakout cable, and a USB audio interface. Works great!

    It is a topic for Positive, to add to the Grid software the possibility of simulating speakers and cabinets. Then it will be great.

    Amazing little Amp. I love mine. Hopefully they will make a 8 inch or a 2x12 version. Possibly with the use of the bias effects software as well.

      Yes! A 2X12 combo would be great, but I'd be just as happy with speaker out jacks.

    Your least favorite pedal is my favorite on the spark. My second favorite is the tube screamer drive pedal.

    SAB Driver is supposed to emulate the Fulltone OCD. it's a bit more sizzly though

    • @BJSabet

      Well, some forums say it’s supposed to emulate the Wampler Pexi-Drive. But again, doesn’t sound like that either...

  • @jamesthe-doctor8981
    @jamesthe-doctor8981 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Apologies if somebody already commented earlier, but the majority of the discussions I've read claim that the Sab Driver is supposed to emulate the Full tone OCD Overdrive, with the Wampler Plexi Overdrive as the next closest guess.

    Hi Paul. Thank you, an interesting comparison of the positive grid pedal emulations.
    Could you elaborate on your signal chain? I.e. the Cab, speakers, mic/s (were you mic’ing or recording this via a direct o/p?), sample rate, did you use compression, etc…
    No disrespect, but all of these sounded a bit ‘muddy’ - when was the last time you recapped your guitar and amp? What tubes were you using in your rig for the recording?
    Subscribed and I look forward to you posts.

    Nice vid really helpful. Does the channel selector switch play a role in the tones? The crunch,glassy hi gain etc?.

    @The Studio Rats I really don't get how Positive Grid can successfully emulate some very complex amp tones, and completely fail to emulate some other amps/pedals... BUT still decide to release all of them together. Like when you said ''that one, to me, sounds nothing like a Plexi'' in your first Spark video. Personnally, I can't always tell because i haven't played ALL the real amps and pedals in the world like some of you did (to me, it kinda sounds like a Marshall at least). To me, it doesn't matter at all if it sounds truly authentic to the real thing or not. What matters the most to me is that it sounds good (not fizzy and digital/old transistor style), no latency at all, and how the sound cleans up when playing softely (or lowering guitar volume knob) with some true tube-like characteristics, so i can express myself very dynamically.
    One thing that I know for sure though, is that too many people fail to realize that the Spark is supposed to mimic the sound of a ''micced'' guitar rig that you hear through full range speakers in the monitoring room (even though they kinda designed the speakers to emphasize the low end for a more ''authentic'' experience). Same as any other amp modelers (hardware or software), so it's completely useless to compare it side by side with a real valve amp, or even a Katana (because the Katana still has a real cabinet with a speaker made for guitar in it). Even a Kemper/Axe FX (i owned both years ago) won't sound identical to a valve amp/cab when connected to a FRFR system. The only way to compare the Spark to real amps is by miccing the real amp, and recording the Spark through USB/headphones out. Otherwise, it's totally like comparing a micced acoustic piano to a synth with an acoustic piano emulation (micced from the small built-in speaker).
    Thanks for making these videos Paul, and i'd like to know your thoughts on the subject.
    Cheers!

      Hey David you definitely win the award for the most detailed comment ever, thanks. To me and I could be wrong, but I don’t feel the spark is trying to emulate a miced cabinet. They made it sound that way because that it the limitations of a small cabinet. I think they over egged the bass response. I feel people need to hear what the spark sounds like and what a valve amp sounds like, even though they are different beasts. The spark is great but it’s a practice tool and it does a great job at that.

    • @davidmultimedia2024

      @@TheStudioRats LOL yea, well in my experience, talking with fewer words normally leads people to misunderstand of miss my point. I agree with you, but the Spark still uses an impulse response after the amp simulation (it's just that they don't allow us to bypass it like other modelers). I don't mean that it's been created to mimic the studio experience, but in a way, it's the same thing (you're earing an amp simulation, with an IR to attenuate the unwanted frequencies (normally created using real cabs and mics), through a FR speaker system. It's not like a Katana, which emulating amps but is still using a real cab speaker (no IR). The experience is never gonna be the same for that specific reason.

  • @VicusBass
    @VicusBass 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Did you record the headphone out? Btw, if you're cutting the bass a lot so it sounds decent in Spark's cabs, doesn't it kill the bass on the recorded signal? (would try it myself, but I cannot find a compatible cable, yet)

    • @TheStudioRats
      @TheStudioRats  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1
