I have a Everdrive GB & I literally made a folder in it titled 'RetroBreak's Recommendations'. Thanks for your input! Merry Christmas, happy New Year, and congrats on getting hitched! Looking forward to your videos next year!
@@RetroBreakHave you thought of doing a video about the best link cable Game Boy games? I play my Game Boy Pocket on the train/ tram a lot, strangers are often pleasantly surprised... so I've bought another to offer them a game on Micro Machines (an easy, fun game for a quick few races). Bomberman GB is another. Nobody seems to have done a good video on the topic though.
Great video as always, yours is, without question, my favourite retrogaming channel on TH-cam, it’s your stories and anecdotes that make your videos so watchable and entertaining, every new video at 4pm Friday is eagerly awaited! BTW, have you got your Modretro Chromatic yet? Looking forward to your thoughts sometime in a video! I got mine about a week or so ago and I love it! Thanks for all your superb content this year, a very Merry Christmas to you and am super excited for your content in 2025!
So glad you like my channel! :D Yeah I got my chromatic, will do a video on it in the new year, there's some things I'm waiting for first... The video out doesn't work on Mac yet, and there's some problems with the overdrive saving which might be addressed in a future firmware...
Merry Christmas & Happy 9 years of giving us Retro Break! in 2024 i've been playing a lot of SEGA's "Altered Beasts" & for whatever reason i just heard of "Kickle Cubicle" for the NES & i've been playing that puzzle game tons this year! A lot of family came up for Christmas so i've busted out my PS1 & having all the little ones play "Twisted Metal" & the older generation playing 4 way "College Slam" on the PS1. Just to name a few, but at our house hold it's turned into a PS1 Christmas! Thanks for all your videos...Good Bye!
Happy Holidays Nick. I also love Crisis Core as well. It's one of my favorite Switch games. I'm a huge Final Fantasy 7 fan. Really enjoyed this video. My favorite game that I played this year was Tales of Hearts R on PS Vita. It was a holy grail of mine for the Vita and it didn't disappoint. It's become my favorite game on the Vita. I hope 2025 brings you health, happiness and many games 🫡
Great job 👍🏼 Deffo play Control, it's awesome. I got Alan Wake 2 recently on a deal, so looking forward to that Also Crisis Core was my fave PSP game, this one looks great 👍🏼
Loved all the stuff of yours i've watched since finding your channel (which has been every new upload plus a TON of stuff from over the years). Excited to see what you'll put out next year and as always I appreciate the contagious positivity you have for the medium. With how negative so many people are, it's so nice to see a TH-camr who just enjoys games, retro and new alike, and loves talking about them. Plus you've introduced me to a ton of awesome looking games I've never heard of which has been great. I want to play Tetris Forever so bad, but I'm holding out in the hopes it gets a physical. I'm a huge Tetris fan but am not too familiar with the older history so I'm excited to learn.
Glad you found me and are enjoying the content! :D I'm sad Tetris Forever didn't get. physical, they could have done a really cool special edition with some design docs or something!
Happy Holidays mate! I hope you have a great one and I hope you check out an old shooter that came out back in Japanese arcades back in 2005 called Under Defeat which came out for the switch. It looks amazing and I'm having fun with it!
Nice to see some love for the Wii U! It's such a strange decision not to release Twilight Princess on the switch. BUT....another reason to own a Wii U.
@RetroBreak Nintendoland is still a very underrated game, in my opinion, and it would work perfectly on the Switch. I'm very surprised Nintendo hasn't made an easy cash in & just added an extra couple of games.
Eh, Crisis Core, Persona 3, games like that dont need remakes. HD ports and light remasters for old games is best for preserving the spirit of the original game. Seeing old games with their hearts yanked out, ie, different game engine, changed mechanics, altered story, different voice cast... It sucks all the soul out of it. Gaming culture just has so few new ideas these days and its tiring when half of the 'games of the year' are games that are 15-20 years old. This is why out of the 1000s ive spent on gaming this year, I've only bought 2 actual new current gen games. Sorry for mini rant and ofc thank you for the video and spotlights on all these games 😅
My favorite games i beat this year are: Fire Emblem Genealogy of the Holy War Fire Emblem Thracia 776 Gauntlet Legends Brigandine Legend of Forsena Castlevania Symphony of the Night
I held out on Alan Wake 2. No way am I paying £60 for a digital game. Was gonna wait for deep sales but then they made a disc so it worked out!! Also brave for proposing in a log cabin after playing Alan Wake with what happened in AW1 when Alice and Alan went to one lol Obvious congrats too hehe
why is game of the year not a game. so uhm, you dont have a problem with that eldering dlc being nominated for game os the year i take it.. not angry. am just asking.
You seem to value story incredibly high in games, yet writing in games, especially jrpgs, is so poor. I implore you to read some classic fantasy books and learn just how immature and mono-dimensional game 'scripts' are in comparison. It's very easy to pick the wrong book to put you off for ever. Also the same authors are churned out by algorhythms. Try pullman, gaiman, kevin brooks, du maurier, hobb (assasin's apprentice), le guin. Wynne jones.
I’ve read plenty of fiction and am well aware of how bad game writing in general is comparatively, but what am I supposed to do, just hate every game for not being as well written? I can still enjoy what the author intended while acknowledging its lack of prose
not heard of them, what did they do? The game felt pretty much the same as the first so I don't think you should write it off if you enjoyed the first one.
@@RetroBreak For one thing, they're on record openly using fear and intimidation to force studio bosses to change games they viewed as "problematic", gloating about it. As for AW1, it was alright, the shadow stuff was ambitious but clunky. It definitely wasn't good enough to support SBI though.
Crisis Core is such a great game that i think a lot of people passed on it!
Hey Johnny! Merry Christmas :) It's kind of sad Crisis Core doesn't get the same recognition as the main FFVII games! I loved it!
I started playing it on the Switch, but the visuals are pretty rough. I was tempted to wipe out the PSP and play it there instead.
I just started watching your videos recently, I like how nice and positive your videos are bro. Keep making em 👍🏼

Survival Kids is my favorite GBC game ever. It was SHOCKINGLY ahead of its time.
Would love to see your Retro Makes series, can't wait!
Thanks! Hopefully I will actually go through with it! :D got lots of plans...
Great list! Happy Holidays and thanks for another great year of videos and content. RetroMake sounds really cool!
Thank you! Very much looking forward to starting making something in the new year :D thanks for supporting as a member too! :)
You're my best channel find this year, Merry Christmas and well wishes

I have it on the Dreamcast! It's a cool game!
You nailed it, there's something about skyward sword that always calls me back.
That’s a great story about you and your fiancée completing Alan wake two the night before your proposal ❤
Just finished Crisis Core this week on the switch. Amazing game and storyline. So emotional.
Wonderful news to hear you are restarting your game dev journey. I wish you all the best in it, and let me know if you need any support/advice.
Thanks! I would love to pick your brains about some programming concepts sometime :)
Nice to see some love for the Wii U! It's such a strange decision not to release Twilight Princess on the switch. BUT....another reason to own a Wii U.
True, there has to be SOME reasons to still play the WiiU! I'm actually working on a list of WiiU games worth playing that are still stuck on there
@RetroBreak Nintendoland is still a very underrated game, in my opinion, and it would work perfectly on the Switch. I'm very surprised Nintendo hasn't made an easy cash in & just added an extra couple of games.
merry xmas!
Regarding Rythm games > have you played piuGBA? It now even supports playing background videos when played via certain FlashCarts :D Cheers :)
I haven't but it looks awesome!
"...with my girlfriend at the time..."
Aw, sorry to hear it ended.
"...the night before I proposed to her..."
Ah.
Where did you get Stranded Kids 😮? I just see it on ebay with about 500 EUR. Was it that expensive?
I got lucky, think I got it for £200 last year
Wow that‘s great! 👍🏻
Crisis core is so good!!
Where were the other copies of Twilight Princess?
In storage when when I moved house a few years ago 😅
Hey Nick,
what is your opinion to zelda breathe of the wild?

Obvious congrats too hehe
Haha I also did a bit of writing in that cabin too!! And Sarah is an artist…. 😱
Dude there's physical for AW2
Yeah there is now, the deluxe edition, but there wasn’t when it came out
Real retro games like 2d sidescrolling are best
why is game of the year not a game. so uhm, you dont have a problem with that eldering dlc being nominated for game os the year i take it..
not angry. am just asking.
I don't understand the question, what are you asking?
@RetroBreak the eldenring dlc. Are you ok with that being nominated as game of the year this year?
I guess so? I don’t know anything about it tbh.
@@RetroBreak ah ok lol.
well i loved the originality of your list. cheers:)
BUT ATRSI BOT

Alan Woke 2 is terrible and I'm glad it didn't sell too well.
What did you not like about it? I thought it was great
@RetroBreak It was involved with the company Sweet Baby Inc, that's all I needed to know. It's an evil company.
not heard of them, what did they do? The game felt pretty much the same as the first so I don't think you should write it off if you enjoyed the first one.
