I grew up with the ps1 and the ps2, recently found my old ps2 in the attic of my childhood home, dusted it, plugged it in and tried it and it ran perfectly still had Conflict: Desert Storm 2 in the disk tray. Amazing console that has so many happy memories attached to it for me.
What an amazing system the PS2 with such an incredible library. Final Fantasy and YS are also some of my favourite series and I’d also add the Sly Cooper 1, 2 and 3, Ratchet & Clank and Dragon Quest VIII. Great list.
I'm sure this list was tough! The PS2 has such a large library with many great titles. I've been playing a lot shmups on the system, Castle Shikigami 2, Xll Stag, and Gradius 5.
TH-cam recommended your video, so I watched it. Really cool. Quite a few games on your list I’ve never heard of, that I’m gonna look into. Lol. I’ve been feeling nostalgic and wanting to play PlayStation 2 again. Great system.
Great to hear about your personal favourites! A PS2 list feels almost impossible to do with such a vast library. But my top game would probably be Soul Calibur III. I spent so much time creating characters and doing the Chronicles mode! High on my list I would also place game collections like Taito Legends/ Taito Memories…
yo duuuude, just found your channel. i am stoked. such a great guy and i can feel that u love gaming. i grew up with psx and ps2 games as well. im 35 now and still gaming everything back and forth. keep up the good work and take care buddy. regards from germany!
I LOVE Kingdom Hearts, and I was also somebody whose introduction to the series was Kingdom Hearts 2, after saving up my pocket money for it as a kid! Still remains one of my favourite games and video game series to this day. (also love 358/2 Days as well!)
Thanks for the Mana Khemia and Ar Tonelico 2 recommendations. PS2 has my favorite JRPG ever made in Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne as well as some other S-Tier bangers like Digital Devil Saga Avatar Tuner, Persona 3 FES, Persona 4, and Dragon Quest VIII so awesome to see recommendations for some more great JRPG that I hadn't heard of before.
Wow, can't believe you remade this video! I watched your PS2 Top-10 almost exactly a year ago, according to my TH-cam watch history, so it suddenly clicked when you referenced the original. I remember watching a lot of your legacy Top-10s during this time just for fun. Congrats on holding onto your values for 14 years, all the games are exactly the same, except the old list included We Love Katamari. One continuity error between this video and the other, is that here you mention you owned KH2 before KH, but in the old video you listed KH and said "the first one, 'cause I haven't played the second." Nice time capsule for the PS2 this time.
Amazing you watched the old one too! I was amazed when I watched it after making this and my picks were mostly all the same! I forgot the order I played the KH games. Infact, I found the footage for the game tower video I mentioned and it was actually KH1 in that stack, not 2!
Ahh the flow state. Only one for me was wipeout on the ps1. I can't remember which version but the one with the dance tracks on it. When you had mastered the air brakes and could drift the craft around the corners with precision there was literally no better feeling!!!!!! Great video mate!!
Great list! I haven't played enough PS2 games to really come up with a list of 15 favourites, but everything here looks appealing and there's a diverse range of genres available here. I tend to stick to JRPGs and Rockstar titles for Sony consoles, but I definitely missed out. If I had a favourite, it'd be Wild ARMs 3. It's definitely not the best JRPG out there, and it's a bit awkward, but it has a lot of sentimental value to me. It's arguably my favourite game.
Just discovered your channel. You always seem so happy in the videos. Not used to that. Makes me feel better when watching the videos. 13 Sentinels is good BTW. Great story. Also, their newest game Unicorn Overlord is my favorite game this year so far.
I share a lot of the same memories as you for some of these games. Ys was also picked up on a whim, having never heard of the series it blew my mind. Star Ocean till the end of time turned me into a die hard Star Ocean fan as well. Awesome ps2 list, picked up Ridge Racer V this past weekend at my local swap because of you.
Love that you mentuoned some less known games as your faves like Mana Khemia. Never met anyone who liked burnout 2 better than 3 either, very interesting. You're right about its soundtrack though, its a real banger!
What an awesome and idiosyncratic list! Your top games videos are the best around. My own list would be completely different (although I would have Burnout 2) but I love that you personalise and justify every choice so well and your passion always comes across. By the way, what is your experience with the Metal Gear Solid games? I notice you never talk about them so I assume you're not a big fan, but just curious.
Regarding games that put you into that trance-like "flow state", the first thing that came to mind for me was Spider-Man 2. I've been playing my PS2 a ton recently and swinging around the city in that game is something I could do for hours.
You're the first person I've seen who's talked about the finding the flow state in a racing game the same way that I've experienced. In my "Is There a Correct Way To Play Video Games?" video, I talked about how Rush 2049 is such a special game to me because its stunt mode and its music (which is, again, really trancey stuff like you described with RR5) got me in this zen state every time.
@@RetroBreak It's such a good game! This account is a newer one but I've watched your stuff for years, btw. I think the first video I saw was a Wii hidden gems video of yours. Had no idea Enclave was on the Wii until I saw that video, haha. Cheers!
Great video RetroBreak... I love Burnout 3 Takedown, it was nearly impossible to drive the F1 Formula cars with the insane sense of speed. I also remember playing the Klonoa 2 demo over and over again and being at all with the charm and atmosphere. And of course Shadow of Colossus.... what a Masterpiece... I still prefer the ps2 version over the ps4 remake.
"SSX", no not the first one, but on the Ps3 and 360, whilst not my favourite SSX, got me totally into a flow state. Such that I would regularly post the fastest online scores and times for a track without breaking a sweat, to the point I was really competing with myself for the high scores. That's never happened to me in any other game.
@@RetroBreak If you can get it it by any means do so man. It's a great sequel to the game the writing is just funny and characters just get wild in a school setting.
The Last Guardian is easily one of my favourite games on the PS4, if not my favourite. Criminally underappreciated! Play it and make a video about why it's the best of the trilogy! 😂 Seriously though, the minor control and camera gripes shouldn't overshadow everything this game does right, a truly wonderful experience
Love the Ark of Napistim! i feel like all the Ridge Racers gets you in that zone to just want to do great which makes the series so much fun to play! i liked all your pick but I would of put in Sled Storm on the PS2. I'm a big fan of the Ghost N Goblin Series, so i liked the Maximo Ghost to Glory on the PS2. There is just so much on the PS2 it's hard to narrow it down to a few!
I see Mana Khemia has a sequel. Thanks for the recommendations. I noted: ar tonelico - Mana Khemia - I also noted a nice looking trilogy called "Atelier Iris."
They are all part of the same “Atelier” series :) mana Khemia is the 9th game in the series. The Iris games came before it, and ar tonelico is a spin off series
For the Trance state... there's only 2 that have made it so "bad" that I even dreamnt about them. That's Tempest 2000, and Tetris Worlds (PS2). LOVED these and proper zoned out whilst playing them, even Tetris Effect hasn't come close.
Youre looking at arcade games the wrong way....games like Outrun are designed to have infinite replay value because theyre arcade games, theyre short and simple and fun....that's the appeal
Quite an interesting choice to choose games like Ar Tonelico or Ridge Racer 5 over Persona 3. I like those games too but better than P3? Or maybe you just didn't play Persona 3?
I'm here for more PS2 goodness. Regarding Silent Hill, yes check the other games. 3 is also very good. The Room and Origins are quite good as well. IF 2 and 3 are 10/10, then The Room and Origins will be 8.5.
IRONY….I preferred SSX3 on the GameCube but I played the Living Shit out of RE4 on the PS2! (Like 16 Times!) , Also Loved Tomb Raider Anniversary (Which to this Day is one of the most Beautiful games to Me!), played DMC Trilogy ( The Art Style of 1 & 3 can’t be DENIED!), GUN, GOW 1 & 2, Prince of Persia trilogy, Radiata Stories, Rogue Galaxy, Mark of Kri, Rise of Kasai, and the list could go on and on! 🙄😎😉
That's a nice selection of PS2 games with alot of variety in different genres. I really enjoy the list, but there's literally so much better games out there, that once you realize it you'll regret it and remake the list, it's happened to me before that I had a top list of games but once I realized how many games there are on PS2 it changed my mind and now I know that there's even better games out there that ticks all the boxes, replay value, fun, flow, graphics, game design, just all in all great games. But yeah, it's always up to debate what a top 15 list of games are, especially personal lists can change over time once you grow older and comparing the list from when you were younger you can tell that it's way different than from your current selection of top 15. That should be evidence that the love for your current top 15 can always change at any time... but if this is your top 15. I wouldn't agree with it fully, even though you had a few heavy hitters on the list for sure, not all of them felt right for me. But since you're a JRPG fan it makes total sense and I understand that aspect of it. I am no JRPG fan other than the love for FF7 on PS1, lol. But that's about it. I enjoyed your list though, it had tons of great games even though everyones personal top 15 list will always be different and it's cool to see what peoples top 15 are. Thanks for sharing yours. :)
9:39 , this was the 3rd game I ever played back when I was a little ginger boy, I didn't like it problaby becuz I didn't knew english at the time so I didn't understand nothing of it , im gonna try this game again , I have the original one so I dont have to buy or find an ISO to play it

"Ratchet and clank games, Spider-Man 2, Jak and Daxter, Spyro, Crash Badicoot, Sly Cooper" This weeb literally missed some of the actual best games on Ps2, specially the Shrek games 🤦♂️
I love how enthusiastic you are about gaming. It just feels like a friend wanting to share something that genuinely makes them happy.
Ys, Outrun, Odin Sphere, Klonoa!? This man picked some bangers!
Many of us who grew up with Nintendo were blinded by PS2. It wasn't until PS3 that I started getting PS2 games. Then I realized what I had missed
You weren't blinded by the ps2 then. You were blinded by Nintendo
I remember 2005 playing ps2 after school ... Nostalgia 🎉
American here. Can confirm jealous of the ICO box art
Nice video! Three PS2 games that completely blew me away were Medal of Honor; Frontline, Neo Contra and Contra; Shattered Soldier.
What an amazing system the PS2 with such an incredible library. Final Fantasy and YS are also some of my favourite series and I’d also add the Sly Cooper 1, 2 and 3, Ratchet & Clank and Dragon Quest VIII. Great list.
I'm so happy to see Klonoa finally get love in these lists.
It's a beautiful franchise I love with all my heart and it's extremely underrated.
I'm sure this list was tough! The PS2 has such a large library with many great titles. I've been playing a lot shmups on the system, Castle Shikigami 2, Xll Stag, and Gradius 5.
yeah took me a while to narrow this list down! There's so many awesome shooters! I need to a dedicated shmups video sometime!
Samurai Aces, Gunbird, Raiden III, Steel Dragon EX, 1945, etc you have many good shmups on the PS2 🔥
Great content as always! Genuine personalities are a dying breed on the modern internet.
TH-cam recommended your video, so I watched it. Really cool. Quite a few games on your list I’ve never heard of, that I’m gonna look into. Lol. I’ve been feeling nostalgic and wanting to play PlayStation 2 again. Great system.

SSX3 is the best I'll die on this hill
Pirates Legend of Blackcat.
You have simple hack n slash on land but the naval battles are where it shines.
What a great hidden gem.
Thanks for the Mana Khemia and Ar Tonelico 2 recommendations. Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition. Really great PS2 game.
Of these, Ico is my favourite - top 5 all time for me. My copy was the digipak/art cards version like your Shadow of the Colossus.
Yes you mentioned Klonoa, love that series so much! I still remember playing the demo disc 🙏
Your friend had some good taste. Ico, Ratchet and Clank, Dark Cloud, Jak and Daxter, and Onimusha are some of my favorites.

I used to binge play Tricky for days on end when it came out.
I wish they still made games like SSX and Fifa Street.....Rip EA Big
Yeah I wish they were still around! I miss those more arcade style sports games :(

PS2 had so many great games, Onimusha, Devil May Cry, Bully, Guitar Hero & Smackdown HCTP would be a portion of my list😀
bully man, it was the shit
The PS2.. what a goated library. My pick for a flow state, zen experience would be Rez. Over 20 years old and there's still nothing like it.

Great list you should also try Sean Palmer‘s pro snowboarder, and extermination are 2 of my favorite on the PS2
Its really funny how you said how you had a gamecube as a kid and played ssx tricky, 3, and on tour on the gamecube twice in less than a minute
"SSX", no not the first one, but on the Ps3 and 360, whilst not my favourite SSX, got me totally into a flow state. I’m buying a PS2 soon I hope, preparing and looking for games to pick up for it when I do !
I’ve played thousands of games in my time and Shadow of the Colossus might just be my number one! 🤔
Mana Khemia! number 1! My second game of all time is Mana Khemia 2! they were so good!
Awesome! I’m sad the 2nd game never came out in the UK :(
@@RetroBreak If you can get it it by any means do so man. It's a great sequel to the game the writing is just funny and characters just get wild in a school setting.
Am I the only one that played the SSX games with their plug in snowboard thingy? Thing was a blast as a kid
We share some of the top 15. I upgraded most of mine to ps3 or ps4. God of war 2 and shadow of the collussus would be my top 2.
De ja vu... Feels like we were just talking about this recently 😂
SSX Tricky is really good, but SSX 3 is perfection. They just couldn’t top that game, seeing as all other sequels were just subpar in comparison
It’s Ridge Racer! Riiiidge Raceeeeer! 😄
Also I got all my music taste from the Burnout games! Memory by Sugarcult is peak!!
