The thing most people don't understand is, even if the expiration date is good, it also has to do with when you open it! I try to put the date on the top or label with a sharpie so I have a better idea. Things like milk or yogurt, once opened, are only good for 7-10 days after opening.
I was thinking the same! Things like egg beaters, aseptic packages, a lot of this will have a pretty long shelf life but once you open them, they are only good for 7-10 days! That's when I write on it with a marker the day I opened it.
I threw out an old open pack of raisins, old sauce, a jar of tuna, a rotting chili, and some moldy spring roll wrappers. I decided to watch you declutter first, pause, declutter my stuff, then come back for the story as a reward
@@mariemitchell6625 congratulations 👍🏻 I'm so lazy 😔 I hate being so lazy. Or overwhelmed would probably be the better description. Because, once I start, I usually make a bigger mess and then I'm lost, or, I don't start, because it seems like a mountain of stuff, where I have no idea where to put it, but definitely need it, like camping gear, etc
@@InGreed666 it’s easy to get overwhelmed. Focus on the method. 5 minutes or items. If it’s overwhelming, I would start with items to throw away only. The next time pick items to donate. When you pick items to donate, have your box or bag ready. I would even suggest taking it to the car immediately when your task is done for the day.
Last month I got the kitchen fridge into better shape, and it still looks ok, not perfect, but OK. Tomorrow I am going to tackle the very scary fridge in the garage! Who else is repeating the 30 day challenge in October?? I probably won't do every category on the given day, but I am determined to continue making small efforts every day and larger efforts at least twice a week. THIS IS WORKING!
I'd worked in food service for a few years, and borrowed a trick for the refrigerator and leftovers: Labeling! My wife and I are vegan: a piece of masking tape with the date written in green Sharpie? Those leftovers are ours, and they go on the upper shelves. Piece of masking tape with the date written in red Sharpie? Those are for our non-vegan family, and they go on the bottom shelf. One night a week, we have "Tapas Night:" Pullout all the leftovers, and red labels on the right, green labels on the left. USE IT UP! It's fun, easy and economical. Love your videos, Cas. Thanks!
The FRIDGE!!! Got 5 items out but realized the bottom of veg baskets were dirty. . . . had to clean them out. My husband saw the difference!!! Thank you for this stress-free challenge. Love the stories.
I'm so happy that you're doing this! I decluttered alongside with you, but ended up actually cleaning my entire fridge! Meanwhile us utterly normal, completely well adjusted mature adults enjoy your stories so much!
Day 1 I found a time will tell bin. Removed 33 items of clothes. Day 2 I continued in the closet I found 13 kid books a couple dog collars a couple candles and a few more clothes items. Yes! In 5 minutes. Another 38 items. Today I found about 10 items I have built the habit of cleaning out the fridge the day before I shop. So it’s stays pretty decluttered. Thanks for this month of short wins. I feel good knowing I’m making easy progress every day.
Now I have to watch all the videos just to hear your embarrassing stories. I love how genuine and honest you are. I can tell you must’ve been the most adorable child ever.
Try to remember to look at the expiration dates when you are shopping too! There are at least 40,000 different items in a store that will have expiration dates. The clerks don’t always have time to look at each one. It will save you money to check them before you buy them.
In Canada, we don’t have expiration dates on our food. We have best before dates. I once found an entire unopened container of plain Greek yogurt in the back of my fridge (same brand). I opened it and it was fine other than more whey on top, which means the yogurt will taste a bit more tart. I baked it into pancakes. I’m still alive to tell the story.
Thank you for the reminders about doing it quickly, not making a mess, not organizing/sorting, etc. to keep it doable and enjoyable. I look forward to these videos each day!
OMG… thank goodness you warned me about the expiration date!!! 2021???? I know I cleaned/decluttered the fridge after 2021!!! How djd that make it for so long!!! Whoa! I couldn't believe how many bottles and jars of condiments and jams I had in our frig door that were past expiration date. The Fish 'n' Chips vinegar was from 2017! And the new jar of mayo that I just opened last week was two months past. Guess I better check my pantry. It is amazing how fast the days, weeks, months, and years whizz by nowadays. Sheesh. I don't know how to take photos and post them so no pics, but I counted twelve.
I got eight things declutterred from my fridge way before the timer went off! Easy peasy. Day three done. And no, I’m not in that club, but I may or may not have peeped my pants in the car when I was stuck in traffic on a highway with no exits near. Luckily I had some beach towels that helped me out. I swore my two youngest to secrecy but now here I am sharing with complete strangers. 😅 It wasn’t my best moment.
Food poisoning was horrible!!! I couldn't stop running back and forth to the bathroom long enough to get to the E.R. but after 8 hours, we could finally drive the 3 miles. Then I was 3 weeks recovering. I think it's the worse I've ever been, including Covid and surgeries. I can't imagine Crohn's on top of it.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Having "someone" declutter with me for only 5 minutes a day has motivated me. It's only been the third day, but I feel accomplished. I got rid of 20 items in those 5 minutes.😊
I’m so surprised by how much easier this challenge is than I expected it to be… and I’m pleasantly surprised by some of the things my husband is willing to let go of… and I’m already seeing a Good, big difference. Thank you so much for doing this free program. I appreciate it. 😊 My two sisters are doing the challenge too… and we’re having fun encouraging each other and stuff. It’s a wonderful thing you’re doing. 😊 ❤ I haven’t joined “the club”, yet, but I’ve had several very close calls in the last year.
Ok , here’s what I got rid of while watching: Old pickles, Old rotisserie chicken, Milk that I’ll never drink, old capers and an opened jar of spaghetti sauce. 😮💨 💪🏻 💪🏻💪🏻 that was so easy and quick! Thanks for the inspiration Cass!
I watched some of your videos for the first challenge and didn’t participate except once but now I’m doing them in order and participating. I’m amazed because I’m pretty minimal and I have found stuff all three days so far. I declutter regularly too!
I expected to find 1-2 things because our fridge is small and I do a sweep before each weekly grocery trip. I found 10 in the fridge (condiments) and 20 in my baking basket that lives on top of the fridge!
I spent longer than 5 minutes but was pleased with how much i was able to throw out. Jam, miso paste, tumeric drink, vinaigrette, some old meds to mention some. Felt great. !!
I am *loving* five minutes a day! Today got rid of *all* of my condiment packets from takeout (33 packets!), leftover French fries from last week, a bottle of an expired non alcoholic drink I thought I would try, and a mostly used jar of jam. I had no idea how that bottle of n/a booze was weighing on me as a project until I got rid of it!
I *had* to clean. I only did the fridge door but it's so much better now. Lots of sauce packets and 2 jars of niche ingredients for those home made goodies I'm never going to make again. A small win 🎉
Sadly a member, but life goes on. We live, we learn, & move on to better ourselves. 😃👍🏼 Thanks for today’s theme. Got rid of old pudding, exp Crisco, & some condiments. Keep it up Cassie, great job!👏
This was harder, as I do keep a reasonable eye on my fridge. I did, just, manage 5 things: 3 that had been open too long, and two that were past their date. Only the pesto had visible mould, so not too bad.
This is perfect for me. Only 5 min. a day; and oh, it feels great!!! I CAN do this!!! Thanks, Cas!!! (Oh, yes, I was a Club member when I had IBSD.....Thank the Lord, better now!)
I got rid of 1 expired item in the fridge and 4 items in the freezer that have been sitting there forever. And then wiped down the outside of the fridge. 5 minutes done! Now to add 1 minute to run the garbage out.
My sister moved in with me a few months ago, and I've been quiet about my clutterbug style because I didn't want to come off as mean. I mentioned on Sunday that I joined the challenge, and it inspired her to clean the entryway and kitchen, giving me a LOT of relief. I think she's starting to get buy-in with the idea. She was bragging to our mom how much stuff I took out of the fridge. Expired milk, buttermilk, sauce packets, fruits and vegetables, iced tea. It was a lot, and now our kitchen looks so clean!
Cas, It's not just you. I think you and I were born under the same star! I have just as many embarrassing stories as you, if not more. 😂😂 Welcome to the club!
How is this even possible?? I still found 5 things to declutter, even though I finally cleaned the refrigerator last week...after several months! Thanks for another fun & energizing challenge.
This was good. I’m a new fulltime carer of my Dad, and I’m tired and not eating much and old food was stacking up but I felt guilty to throw it out as wasteful, even though I’d never risk eating it. So exhausted and then feeling guilty every time I opened the fridge … so in 5min just chucked out what I wouldn’t eat anymore. Done. So much better when opening fridge and knowing what I grab quickly will be safe to eat. Thank you.
I found a few items to get rid of from the fridge. Dealing with the fridge for five minutes was easy. Yesterday, my five minutes of decluttering in the kitchen turned into several hours and three bags of items to get rid of.
I have a really small fridge and I still managed to find 13 things to let go. Sauces that no one likes, a random half onion thats been there since who knows when, questionable cheese that no one likes, mustard that expires next week that we've been storing there for a year without using more than a teaspoon. I got some important space back in my fridge now, to use for food we do eat. Thanks Cass! I'll be back tomorrow 😄 I'm surprised how easy this is so far.
When putting groceries away, we label the date in the upper right corner with a sharpie pin. We have a basket for condiments needing used up, dairy drawer, veggie and fruit pullout, and those help. Keeping less in the frig helps us too.
Great declutter :) I haven't found anything much in the fridge, but I removed dozens of magnets and papers with notes and recipes from the fridge door ☀
I just did my fridge a week ago. I have just figured out, I'm going to put tape on my stuff and write the date on the item in large numbers so I don't need glasses to read it but will know maybe a week before it dies. so I can either use it up or ditch it on garbage day.
Goal today: to see the living room floor again! 😂 Been a long summer. Apparently, a few sock drawers full of unmatched wanderers got lost under the coffee table and the dog nested in them. 😅😊 Today they GO!!! Phew! 😮💨
😂😂😂 I am a member but I have kept that on the DL!!! 😂😂😂😂 only very close family members (who were there) know this and have been sworn to secrecy!!! 😂 Cas, the first rule of this club is you don’t talk about this club 😂😂😂😂😂
The first day I only had 3 things to get rid of, yesterday I did have 5 things but it only took a minute or so. Today I am somewhat ashamed to say it took the whole 5 minutes and I had a whole garbage bag of stuff to throw out. And I too am a member of the club.
Actually cleaned out my fridge yesterday got rid of all the stuff that was no good. Unfortunately I do not have a photo considering I did it without knowing this was one of your challenge.
I normally clean out my fridge so I could not possibly find things in there. Oh was I wrong. I found rotting vegetables and old pieces of meat fitted for the dog which we do not have one of now. I took it out to carry to my brother for his dog.😊 Thank you Cas
OMG, I'm embarrassed to say that I had ones YEARS old. It is Hoison sauce, but... I actually HAD FUN going thru my fridge! 20+ things. My partner is doing the veggie drawer! It's pretty good but needs washed down.
Much needed. I got rid of some condiments that were expired and a small container of moldy tomato paste that was hidden in the back. Only 5 items as I am normally pretty good about using the things in the fridge.
Since I'm a little behind on the days, I did the kitchen and the fridge episodes today. I suprised myself by finding a total of 6 things. All of it was trash lol but it works. I was pretty sure I wouldn't have a single thing in the kitchen to get rid of.
Once I started I cleaned the entire side-by-side refrigerator/freezer, beyond countable the stuff I threw away. The breads, fruits and veggies went to the chickens (so not a total toss out). Thank you. It really needed it. Some expired in 2022. Yuck and yicks!!
😂"Smells like butt"... Decluttering with you is like a 5 minute pick me up. I am spending time away from home this month. I will miss 2 weeks but will watch videos just for fun while gone and re "play"along when I get back. You are such a bright spot in my day!
Hey Cass, one thing that has helped me (and my older eyes) is using a sharpie! I will date the tops and bottoms of my cans and boxes before putting them away in the pantry. Date the bottles of condiments, dressings, and other packages before putting them in the fridge and freezer. Helps to notice expiration dates a little more easily. OH, and before you fault yourself for something that expired in April... this morning I decluttered one cabinet and tossed 4 tuna packets that expired 10/2023!! I agree, a couple of weeks I'd be good with, but not 11 months! haha - As for the 'club' - well, let's just say, sometimes it's not just a little gas bubble! HAHAHA I love your stories ♥
i do same. In fact I tacked a sharpie on a string inside the trim of the doorway on pantry to mark things as I put them away. I also put a sharpie near the fridge
Oh Cass, Cass, Cass.! Why didn’t I know I had so much stuff in my fridge. 15 items that were either mouldy, wrinkled(plums), out of date stuff. oldest 22/3/24 ice cream sauce.finger of fresh ginger (3 months ago). The thing is with sauces and mayo is that the date may be still good but in the UK some bottles say to discard after 4 weeks. Thanks for this Cass, but while I declutterred I thought I will clean and sanitise the fridge as well. So big thumbs up. Thanks once again. 😊❤
I was under the weather yesterday, so did the fridge this morning. I’m pretty good about getting rid of expired and bad food, but I still tossed/removed 5 items.
The unopened container of joghurt can still be used. We usually buy in bulk on sale and a few times a year we do find a joghurt like that or older toi. Open, look, stir, smell and try (use your senses to establish, if it is still to be eaten) and usually they taste exactly as they are when they are "fresh". Reduced food waste immensely in out house. And this is,appliccable to all soured dairy products that have been cooled the whole time continuously
I just recently discovered your channel and I’ve been binge watching. I didn’t even know there were different types of organizers. I just thought there was one way. I watched your video on the different types and figured I am a cricket. I took your quiz and it said I’m a cricket so I don’t feel like I need a lot of the tips and tricks because I pretty much practice everything you preach already. But once I came across this video I went through my fridge and pantry and did a complete gut and was surprised at how much more I could have gotten rid of but didn’t because I had the space for it. But it felt so good to get more useless stuff out of my space! Love you and your content! Thank you!
I was clearing out some out of date foods the other day - gravy granules that expired in 2022 as well as mayonnaise and sauces but not quite that old. I’m decluttering my kitchen as I’m hoping to have a new kitchen soon and had someone in today to measure up.
I only had to toss one thing, Yay me! But, I found six things that will expire before the end of this year. So, I used a Magic Marker to write the expiration date on the lid, or the label, in big numbers. This will catch my eye, and I can be sure to use it up. I am making a note on my Calendar to check again on January 1. Some of the dates expire early in the new year. Got a plan. Thanks!

I got rid of 3 expired condiments and wiped down the fridge in the process!😁 Tfs.🙂
Thanks for today’s theme. Got rid of old pudding, exp Crisco, & some condiments. Keep it up Cassie, great job!👏
Thanks!
This turned into a full-blown fridge clean. 23 leftover containers-a new record. I kept three in the fridge. I filled a garbage bag.
I go through it every week the night before trash day. It's a ritual that helps prevent nasty old stuff lingering and smelling up the place.
Thank you.
I'm loving these 5 min declutter sessions
Ik ook!!!
I found a few items to get rid of from the fridge. Dealing with the fridge for five minutes was easy. Yesterday, my five minutes of decluttering in the kitchen turned into several hours and three bags of items to get rid of.
I’ve made it a weekly task now on bin night. 💕
Empty all the bins and clean out the fridge of old food etc.
😂😂😂 I got out 10 things, including 5 jars of old condiments, and olives😂, and old butter, herbs, nasty stuff😮😂. Such fun! Bring on tomorrow's items❤.
I’m in the club. So are my friends. We laugh about it. You and I have the same personality. Love ya.
I'm doing well with this. I don't take the full 5 minutes on most days. I did today because of looking for dates. My goals is 5 things or more.
Fridge: 11 items OUT. One expired in 2018. Yes, that's true. Many things that I bought for one recipe, and never used again. This was SO motivating.
So glad I watched this-in 3 mins I had 5 expired bottles of condiments (very embarrassing). Thanks Cuss!
Salad dressings, always salad dressings😂 that was my 5. Also some leftovers. Thanks Cas!
Hi! First time mom of twins and you are helping change our lives! 🎉🎉 ty ty!
I didn't get further than my dressings and condiments and I have NINE items!! 🎉🎉
@Dezedaantje I guess you don't need to replace the mustard 😂
Hey Cass, I am pumped. Got rid of chicken salad, gross carrots diet drinks I hated and condements. Lets go. See ya tommorow.😊📣😊
Oh, you're funny I cleaned out the fridge at church today and the cupboards. Yike!
When putting groceries away, we label the date in the upper right corner with a sharpie pin. We have a basket for condiments needing used up, dairy drawer, veggie and fruit pullout, and those help. Keeping less in the frig helps us too.
We do too! It makes keeping track so much easier. Especially with older eyes.
That's a good idea!
I am a day late, but I did it. Threw out about 10 things while making dinner.
Found a couple of science experiments in there! Glad to have that done!
I bet!
I just cleaned my fridge this morning but I checked just to be sure and found something that had to go. Thank you.
Actually cleaned out my fridge yesterday got rid of all the stuff that was no good. Unfortunately I do not have a photo considering I did it without knowing this was one of your challenge.
Don’t forget the bar fridge if you have one. Three items gone from the holidays from two years! Six items from the main fridge.
Yes!!!!
My frig is so much better now!
I juiced lemons and oranges and put in ice trays.
I threw out a lot of stuff.
Much needed. I got rid of some condiments that were expired and a small container of moldy tomato paste that was hidden in the back. Only 5 items as I am normally pretty good about using the things in the fridge.
Thank you for this challenge. Cleaned out expired food
It is usually the crumbs from your bread/toast that goes mouldy in your jam
Yep I am a member . Especially with 1 bathroom on the second floor. Ugh I hate stairs
25 sauces and condiments plus a handful of takeout sauces. Mostly things I bought at some point for a recipe and then never used again
Since I'm a little behind on the days, I did the kitchen and the fridge episodes today. I suprised myself by finding a total of 6 things. All of it was trash lol but it works.
I was pretty sure I wouldn't have a single thing in the kitchen to get rid of.
I found a bottle of kitchen bouquet that expired in June of 2014! I know that I have used it less than a year ago🤢, luckily no one got sick.
I agree, a couple of weeks I'd be good with, but not 11 months! haha -
As for the 'club' - well, let's just say, sometimes it's not just a little gas bubble! HAHAHA
I love your stories ♥
I'm totally in the club
I was under the weather yesterday, so did the fridge this morning. I’m pretty good about getting rid of expired and bad food, but I still tossed/removed 5 items.
5-minute fridge decluttering challenge completed! Thanks, Cass!
Thank you!
🙋♀️ Club member! Gallbladder also! I was shocked to see how old my dressings were!! Yikes!
Got a plan. Thanks!
