I was given a set of le Creuset cookware when I married 40 years ago. The marriage only lasted for 4 years because he was an abusive jerk, but my pots and pans are still going strong! ❤
I used same pots and pans from 1985 to 2012 then bought a new stainless steel set when I moved into my new house. Stainless steel pans will last forever! Although I have bought several bought stick pans over the years 🥴
I have you all beat! My parents got married in 1950 and bought a LARGE set of stainless steel pots and pans. (Evidently, the salesman came to your house and cooked a meal and then you made weekly payments) I’m still using the entire shiny set almost 75 years later!🙌🏻
Tip for removing odors in the air. Put out a small dish of vinegar. Works great. When you are done, throw it down the garbage disposal or the bathroom sink drain.
Can we please have a home gym tour or just video? Maybe how to build one on a budget, or tips and tricks? Hubby and I are trying to build our first home gym in the basement!!
Use spaghetti sauce in your chili recipe instead of tomato sauce, it's amazing !! My recipe is ground beef, spaghetti sauce, canned diced tomatoes, lots of onions and bell peppers and of course, garlic and chili powder. It's absolutely delicious and everyone loves it. Good use for all that ground beef and spaghetti sauce !!!
Our pots and pans were a wedding gift in 1996, and still look brand new - even though we use them daily. With those and two inherited cast iron pans, pots and pants are on our no-buy list for 2025.
Ì haven't had a car in 20 plus years. I walk, take the bus, pay a friend for doctor and lab visits. I'm 71 and can't walk as far, but I still move as much as possible.
1. Books (I could read for 5 years with the books I already have!) 2. Tea (unless I ACTUALLY run out) 3. Duplicates of cleaning products (use what I have first!) 4. Hydration mixes or powders 5. Hats and Gloves 6. Workout shoes 7. WATER BOTTLES (I clearly have an actual problem with buying too many of these.) 8. Going to try for clothes, but we'll see how that goes. Definitely with you on sweatshirts though! 9. New makeup (unless I'm ACTUALLY out of something)
Good for you taking a deeper dive into processed foods!! We’ve been cutting way back on our processed food intake. My whole family has seen an improvement in our gut health and overall health.
I’ve had the same stainless and cast iron cookware since I got married in 2001! They look as PERFECT as the day I unboxed them with 23 years of cooking from scratch for our big homeschool family all day, everyday. There is a learning curve to cook in it without sticking but it didn’t take me long. I LOVE it
I have no needs for 2025. I am working on spending less. I have no control of utility bills and insurance but I do have control over my grocery budget. I will be buying no clothes. No shopping other than groceries only as needed. So glad to be debt free. Working on my savings. Thank you for all your encouragement and ideas.
I recently cleaned under my sink no more cleaning products, no more toiletries and today I did the pantry, I will not be buying any can foods until I need them.
I have a few newer pots for my glass top stove. My big old Dutch oven works on it too. Some of my pots were bought over 40 years ago when I was rich and single! 😂 I just need to carefully place my cast iron on my stove. So, what I’m saying is, the new stuff sits in the cabinet while I happily cook with my old stuff. 😂
😂 oh my goodness. When you were putting on all your layers of sweatshirts, it reminded me of that scene from friends. The one where Joey puts on all of Chandler‘s clothes. So funny and I agree, I think a bit of organizational tools are helpful. But at the end of the day, if I’m really honest with myself, I just have way too much stuff. I have spent the last year and a half intensely decluttering, and I am so proud of myself and the progress I’ve made. Your channel and Dawn from the minimal mom have been so helpful. Buy less and get rid of more is definitely the theme.
Just fyi. My husband loves Ramen for lunch on occasion, but he cannot have the salt. So, he throws out the seasoning packet and uses sodium free bouillon powder that I keep in pantry. I thought that seemed a waste, so I investigated buying just the ramen noodles. Trust me they are waaaaay expensive to buy. I was aghast! Those little Ramen packages are cheap at 30-33 cents or so each. There's a reason a lot of recipes use the ramen packages for just the noodles. It's ok to throw out the seasoning packet; there are no ramen seasoning packet police. LOL.
If you use dryer sheets or fabric softner you should clean your lint filter with soap and water. The sticky buildup causes your dryer to work harder to dry your clothes, which reflects in power usage. Oh if running your dryer several times to get the load dry check for blocked or clogged dryer vent, it will help prevent a fire and save$$.
High quality cookware, absolutely! I saved up and bought a stainless steel kitchenaid set probably 12+ years ago and they are still in fantastic condition. Used literally every day then hand-washed and air dried. (Canadian price was close to $700 but I saved up and bought on a super sale of about 250-300ish. So worth it!)
Instead of dryer balls I throw a large dry towel or two in the dryer with wet laundry and it reduces the time your dryer is on. Also a clothes line works great and doesn’t use electricity.
I’m still using my ancient cast iron pans, along with my old Revereware. I own four sweat shirts, which I only wear at home. I make my own seasoning mixes, and don’t use box mixes for anything. Mac & cheese and scalloped potatoes taste much better made from scratch! (I do use pre-made pasta.) I haven’t purchased ramen in decades! So yeah, everything on your list is fairly easy to do without, with the exception of gifts. I think I might be a relative of Santa Claus. Giving gifts is my love language! And there’s no way I could give up soda for even six months! I’ve tried and failed! It was nice that you left it off this year’s list!
It's absolutely true about scented candles, or anything labeled "fragrance or Parfum" as they can disguise any harsh chemicals in those labels. I am currently suffering from what the candles (and those wonderfully smelling Christmas tree sticks) did to my lungs. It will take me months of breathing therapy and cardio workouts to get my lungs back to where they should be. This happened to me a few years ago as well, but we didn't figure out the cause until this go around. And then I was on steroids for 4 MONTHS to get my lungs back. Use only pure essential oils if you need to use anything at all, but better to just keep things clean and air out any odors (like the bathroom) with a cracked window if you have it. Trust me, those yummy-smelling scents just aren't worth the health cost!
I hope you find relief! I'm sorry that happened to you. Fragrances are so dangerous. They are linked to hormone changes in women and infertility! Use organic essential oils in a diffuser or candles that only use essential oils. Fragrances or "parfumes" are a huge no no.
Merry Christmas to you and your family ! Thank you for your videos. You were the first person I subscribed to 2 years ago and I love your channel! God bless you and your family
Most candles are made with parrafins and chemicals added for fragrances. You can get better candles made of soy or beeswax that have essential oils in them so you aren't breathing in the harmful smells of regular candles.
We did really good with our goals in 2024 which was very encouraging. For 2025 I’ve decided not to buy anything that makes me feel like crap or anything I have been full of regret over. Your advice about taking inventory of what you already have is so wise. It’s all about self awareness.
You mentioned a whole bunch of things that I don’t buy now (soda, protein powder, dryer sheets, scent beads…) so I guess I’m doing pretty well already!😂
I had to read Anna K in college. First half was hard for me to get through. After that, i was hooked enough to finish. It's good, worth saying youve read it.
In 2025, I'm not buying anything that's being promoted by an influencer. I'm also not buying any shoes or clothes online. Local stores only. All because I end up with stuff that may not be terrible, but had I checked it out in store, I wouldn't have purchased.
I’ve always had a rule to never buy anything TH-camrs are peddling. I also want to cut down on internet shopping unless I am 100% sure I like it and there’s nowhere local to buy it. No more returns or lost packages for me next year. (I hope)
I remember the 2024 video ! No more running shoes and I didn’t see no more TP or paper towels ! 😮I thought that was on there two but maybe that was 2023 ? Merry Christmas 🎁 to you and yours ! Glenda
Not sure if the scented candles are as toxic as cigarette smoke, but any fragrance makes me sick (laundry detergent, candles, perfume, etc). Many in my family have the same issue
You might have a lot of fun making your own pasta🍝 It's actually really easy, especially with a noodle roller/pasta maker thing. (I just use a rolling pin, but that's only because we don't eat it often enough to merit storing special equipment in our teeny tiny kitchen) And! You get to use nutritious ingredients - fresh eggs, organic semolina flour, cold pressed extra virgin olive oil, filtered water...
I have an essential oil reference book for pets and there are very few oils that you can't use with them. In fact, I use the topically on our 11 yr old beaglier and she doesn't mind them. Cats don't like tea tree but we don't have a cat. Essential oils have saved me many times. I don't burn candles because they are terrible for your lungs but I defuse daily. My favorite blend is 10 drops lavender, 10 drops cedarwood, and 5 drops vetiver. My husband and I both sleep really well. In the daytime I defuse an immunity blend that I mix myself that's very similar to thieves.
I haven't bought dryer sheets in years. They produce a film and ruin the dryer. I also am using up what I have in the pantry and am making my own egg noodles as well as not buying boxed mac and cheese. Making food from ingredients instead of packaged foods is my goal this year.
I have a full set of cast iron so that will be passed on for generations. We've been eating our stock pile so I will need to replenish some stuff. I followed your advice. I will be purchasing books, but that's the only "splurge". 🎉
You wearing the sweatshirts and jackets reminded me of Friends when Joey walks in with all of Chandler's clothes on. "Could I be wearing any more clothes?" :)
I’m already with you Christine. I was taught to spend my money wisely. And have. I never have eaten processed foods, always whole food. I try to be good to my body. All the other stuff is a want not a need. ❣️
@ I read labels. Cottage cheese doesn’t have preservatives it’s a clean food as is cheese. You just have to look around carefully. I’m also lucky to have real stand alone butcher shops that sell organic ingredients etc. I’m over 60 and this was the way I was raised by my German family who immigrated in the 30’s. Always large gardens. It’s a simple way of life. People freak out that I’ve never had Oreos ,pop tarts or other snack foods. And it’s not expensive to be like this. Good luck to you!
thankful for this reminder/push to make my own list! going to write it down and keep it visible-ish so that i can keep coming back to it and stick to it. some things i can think of off the top of my head: (also) beef lol, soap, jewelry, essential oils, books, blankets, linens, dog treats.. okay i'm getting carried away. i'll go write it all down for myself
I have taken on the mindset that I do not have the room. Or do I really have the room for something. I am saving so much money. I am also finding I look at least at less stuff at the stores.
So I plan to be more mindful overall of what I purchase because I have bills to pay off and I want to then start saving more money. But I also have plenty of sweatshirts, shoes, and blankets! Oh, and jewelry. And I won’t add any streaming to what I have. I have Netflix and I did the Hulu Black Friday 99 cents per month for a year deal. I also need to stop buying something because it’s a really good deal. I’m a sucker for a really good deal. Great video and great list Christine! Happy holidays!
If you have a free little pantry in your area you can donate some of the feminine hygiene products. Also ask your local crisis center/woman's shelter if they would like them.
We are on a "no spend" since November and it goes through March of 2025 except needs only, so groceries yes but only what we use every week food only no non foods we are stocked ❤
If you read like me, that's still a great deal. Paperbacks are $8 and hardbacks close to $30! But I'm super glad mine is free. Had library card longer than a driver's license 😅
I have one sweatshirt (and I also live in the cold mountains) and it is enough. But I do have several hoodies and sweaters that I layer. And yes, I've read and love Anna Karenina.
@@DiannaGibbs-h2j Not in my area (I worked in retail clothing while going to college). Sweatshirts are crewneck with no hood and hoodies may be quarter zipper or full zipper with a hood. Other areas of the country may consider them the same thing.
Organisation containers!!! Nahhh I'm a mess😂. You do seem to have a problem with sweatshirt. I always go with the need versus want. It works about 90% of the time.
I totally agree on the Hexclad pots and pans!!! I purchased a few years ago and love them! I did purchase an air fryer, as I want to eat healthier and from watching you can try some of your recipes. ❤. Happy holidays to you and your family. 🎅🤶🏻
Personally, I don’t buy shoes unless I absolutely have to. Instead, I buy the tools I need (think shoe goo) to fix them. Where water is concerned, I buy enough filters to get me through the year.
I taught my kids how to make real ramen. I have pre made broth in the fridge that they heat up and add their noodles to, just as quick. If I was lucky they threw some frozen veggies into it.
I make candles myself and have sold them before and I can be honest with you, I kinda really believe what they are saying about them causing cancer because I have severe asthma and most every candle stirs my asthma up …. 😮… that can’t be good for your lungs either way. And yes I agree with you we spend way too much money on items that are simply not a necessity…. I’m done with that this year as well! I have what I need… God always provides. And I have the basics plus some! Thanks for the video! 🎉❤
Anna Karenina took me forever because I read all of the notes to try and get some more information about tzarist Russia. I couldn't tell you much about it 20 years later due to the frustration
The candle things is not right. Watched a good video with all of the science. Debunked. Great video, all in on your list, I am not a fancy girl either, already pay $300 on my property taxes each year for the library so I use the library ebooks/audio books, bought a fantastic set of stainless steel Kirkland pots and pans from Costco 15 years ago that are still like new and I use them every day, live too far from town for delivery anything - never done it, it looks like I need to beef up my pasta sauce stock though- falling behind! 😂 I really love spice mixes, too! Ross and Marshall’s are dangerous for me 😬
Fragrances are still hormone disruptiors. Women who are child-bearing age should stay far away from synthetic fragrances in candles, skincare, perfumes, and cleaning products.
Nice list. I agree on the candles. I didn't go to candle day this year after years of doing so. I'm not buying gifts for others this year either. Also, I plan to go through all the meats and frozen foods in my deep freezer then sell it on FB marketplace. I'm done hoarding food. I sold a bunch of my Christmas stuff this year because storage take up real estate. This video helped with more things I need to do, too.
So far for no soend goals next year... no spending on/I have more than enough : 1. No spending on add ons for games 2. I have enough shoes 3. I have enough clothes (unless small items need replaced 4. I have enough toiletries 5, Reduce spending on streaming services 6. Ditto APPS (see rule one). SOME apps i buy plus, but some its gard to find out how to cancel them 7. No spending on freezer foods until its empty (2 exceptions that i eat weekly) 8. TBC.
I bought a good set of pots and pans a few years ago after having to replace a set I’ve used for 15 years. It was $350 on sale but I know it will last 15-20 years. Buying cheap because of budget is understandable but realize the set may not last more 5 years or less.
I ran thru the tread of my running shoes. And kept saying it was fine... til it rained. So when i saw a cyber Monday sale on my running shoes... i stocked up for next year. 3 for the list price of 2. That'll get me thru all of 2025. 😊
My 'no buy' list for 2025 includes: Novels, juice (for me), any household linens, greeting cards of any kind, pens, clothes (I totally get u re:surfeit of sweatshirts!), plants for the garden (I'll trade, propagate, or grow from seed), and the most challenging of all for me - no new yarn/wool, and no new knitting books. whew. 2025! The year of developing strength & self-discipline💫

I was given a set of le Creuset cookware when I married 40 years ago. The marriage only lasted for 4 years because he was an abusive jerk, but my pots and pans are still going strong! ❤
My mom bought me a set of pots from Montgomery Wards in 1970. This is almost 2025 and I'm still using some of them!😊
Mine are from 1961. Quality means everything (almost).
I used same pots and pans from 1985 to 2012 then bought a new stainless steel set when I moved into my new house. Stainless steel pans will
last forever! Although I have bought several bought stick pans over the years 🥴
We are using my hubby's stainless pots and pans bought by his grandmother in the 1960's. They are perfect. Wonderware for the win!

I am using the stainless steel pots and pans with copper bottoms that my husband gave me for Christmas in 1975...why would I want anything else.
As a quilter, use the quilts! The more they’re used and loved, the softer they become! I’m always happy when I see them being enjoyed
Tip for removing odors in the air. Put out a small dish of vinegar. Works great. When you are done, throw it down the garbage disposal or the bathroom sink drain.

I refuse to order any Shein or Temu.

Bottle water does have a place. Storms coming and it’s good idea to have. Plus the work truck. But I don’t drink it at home.
If you like tomato soup a quick hack is spaghetti sauce and some cream, and of course blend it if the sauce is chunky.

I have a full set of cast iron so that will be passed on for generations. We've been eating our stock pile so I will need to replenish some stuff. I followed your advice. I will be purchasing books, but that's the only "splurge". 🎉
Yes on Anna Karenina! It is very good and it won’t take you as long to get through as you think. (Much easier to read than war and peace)
My avocado green Kitchen Aid mixer is 50 years old!
I think my pale yellow KitchenAid is nearly as old! It’s still going strong!
I have a Kitchen Aid mixer & electric knife set that my parents got as a wedding gift in 1968.
Well don't get rid of it, my Maytag dishwasher is over 30 years old lol. I refuse to replace it.
Love the Richard Osman book! Excellent series
Way to go, Cristine!
I have read Anna Karenina, it's fantastic, it doesn't take too long to read. Crime and Punishment is sublime!
Had my pan set almost 30 years. They still look great.😊
You wearing the sweatshirts and jackets reminded me of Friends when Joey walks in with all of Chandler's clothes on. "Could I be wearing any more clothes?" :)
I’m already with you Christine. I was taught to spend my money wisely. And have. I never have eaten processed foods, always whole food. I try to be good to my body. All the other stuff is a want not a need. ❣️
Wow, you never eaten processed food? You are way better than me. How do you make cottage cheese or cheese for slicing. You should start a channel.
@@susanmolnar9606you are smart not to eat all that crap.
A few weeks ago, I declutted my spice shelf. I'm a baker, so there are plenty of spices.
Beeswax candles from OffGridWithDougAndStacy actually clean the air and have no chemicals.
“I like fruit that’s been though something”, lol. I heard that first from Theo Vaughn and I still think it’s a funny descriptor for dried fruits.
I love that kid!!! He's a treasure.
I love sweat shirts!
thankful for this reminder/push to make my own list! going to write it down and keep it visible-ish so that i can keep coming back to it and stick to it. some things i can think of off the top of my head: (also) beef lol, soap, jewelry, essential oils, books, blankets, linens, dog treats.. okay i'm getting carried away. i'll go write it all down for myself
We needed a new dryer because ours stopped working i swore no more dryer sheets i use a laundry sanitizer and all free and clear pods thats it❤
We are on a "no spend" since November and it goes through March of 2025 except needs only, so groceries yes but only what we use every week food only no non foods we are stocked ❤
My library card costs me $75 a year 😅 I’m not technically incorporated into the city but it’s worth every penny.
Hoodies are sweatshirts…
@@DiannaGibbs-h2j Not in my area (I worked in retail clothing while going to college). Sweatshirts are crewneck with no hood and hoodies may be quarter zipper or full zipper with a hood. Other areas of the country may consider them the same thing.
We returned our Hexclad. We aren't rough on them... and after about 9 months we had a ton of chipping. We loved them until that.
Organisation containers!!! Nahhh I'm a mess😂.
You do seem to have a problem with sweatshirt. I always go with the need versus want.
It works about 90% of the time.
I make my own candles so less chemicals
I totally agree on the Hexclad pots and pans!!! I purchased a few years ago and love them! I did purchase an air fryer, as I want to eat healthier and from watching you can try some of your recipes. ❤. Happy holidays to you and your family. 🎅🤶🏻
No cable here for 10+ year! We have a Roku. No soda, packaged foods, very little sugar except at Christmas…don’t miss any of it.
T-shirts and shorts are my daily wear...I'm in AZ.
If you find a ninja creami on sale or at a thrift shop you should get it you and your family will love it ❤️
Vinegar makes a super good fabric softener. I cry when I let mine run out😢
How much vinegar do you use per load?
I use vinegar as well. I just fill the rinse section in my washer with it.
I have used vinegar a couple years, works great.
Best mattress EVER. I'm 68 and have slept on more than a couple of mattresses . Best investment ever!
I really hope you have a backup generator for that meat freezer!!
So far for no soend goals next year... no spending on/I have more than enough :
1. No spending on add ons for games
2. I have enough shoes
3. I have enough clothes (unless small items need replaced
4. I have enough toiletries
5, Reduce spending on streaming services
6. Ditto APPS (see rule one). SOME apps i buy plus, but some its gard to find out how to cancel them
7. No spending on freezer foods until its empty (2 exceptions that i eat weekly)
8. TBC.
I'm inspired! Going to make my list, check it twice 😁
You should read The Grapes of Wrath. Such a good book. Also, To Kill a Mockingbird, great book.
We don't do any processed foods or snacks, soda, etc.
I don't buy bottled water, fabric softener or jewelry. I am also going to skip candles and toiletries until I use what I already have.
Our 27 yr old son asked for high quality pans - I bought him 2 skillets for Christmas!!!
I never buy jarred sauce, I pop open a can of regular tomato sauce, add a few spices & call it good! And I never make it the same way twice 😂
I agree with you on almost all of these. The water will be a hard one for me. The sink water (what my kids call it) tastes so chemically.
Put a Pur filter on it, our water here tastes gross and I never buy bottled. Now I use the filtered water from the fridge but bf that we had Pur.
I LOVE Anna Karenina. First time I read I was 22 and then read it again last year when I was 32. ❤
The answer is NOT more storage...the answer is less stuff!
