    So glad to see the snickiversary commercials posted. I remember I was so excited for this weekend of snick because central coast had just recently gotten nickelodeon in the cable package. However, there was a family reunion that weekend and my parents insisted (correctly) that this was not reason enough to miss the reunion. I later saw the episodes I missed but I always wondered what the interstitials were.

    Link's Awakening is my second favorite title in the series behind Link to the Past, and it's fitting, since this past week was it's 30th anniversary. It was the first handheld game to me that felt like it could have been done on a console without any changes other than adding color. I have such strong memories associated with this that I never have played the Switch remake. Not that I think it'd be bad, but because I have such personal connections to the original, given it helped me get through a difficult time in my youth.

      IMO the switch remake is not that great and I've only beaten it once. I don't really like the art style and it has a lot of slowdown. The DX version for GBC is the best version.

      I love the dx version, my only problem is no skipping the kid's dialogue about bow wow, lol.

    When I was 12 years old I got in a tragic accident and was near death. This specific set of commercials and bumpers for the Snickaverasrry are from that period. I was clinging to life. I remember every bumper and commercial that isn't regional.

    The "Duhhuhuhuh", opera, and severred head bumpers are so iconic. Seeing the cast of clarissa laugh while singing for snick was so wholesome. I've always wondered who that is singing in the Link's Awakening commercial too.
    Also shoutouts to permenant spine damage. Guts.

    7:11 - It's kind of amazing how Beetlejuice has stayed relevant in pop culture, despite the original coming out in 1988, and it's only just now getting a sequel. When these commercials aired, the original was five years old, which is already a lifetime in pop culture terms. Now, due to the popularity of the Broadway musical, we're getting the long-delayed followed up. Hopefully it doesn't disappoint.

      Beetlejuice was still relevant at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Studios Florida (where they filmed the Nickelodeon shows) because of the Beetlejuice live stage shows that ran there. "Beetlejuice's Rock and Roll Graveyard Revue" opened at Universal Studios Hollywood in 1991 and lasted for 10 years and "Beetlejuice's Graveyard Mash-Up" opened at Universal Studios Florida in 1992...lasting until 2016!

    “Rugrats” End Credits- 🎶 Sing A Happy Happy Happy Happy Happy Happy Song….🎶 Behind the voiceover promo, I totally remember that song that’s being sung during the credits and in the Rugrats show. It’s one of those songs that are annoying, yet infectious.

    10:53 - This would be the last Ren and Stimpy episode that aired with the involvement of original creator and Ren's voice, John Kricfalusi. He did do another episode past this ("Man's Best Friend"), but Nickelodeon refused to air it, and it would not be released until the show hit DVD in the early 2000s. After John was fired from the show by Nickelodeon, Stimpy's voice actor Billy West took over the role of Ren.

    Surf Ninjas and The Fugitive - One is remembered as one of the best action thrillers of the 90s. The other...got a Game Gear game, I guess.

    I never understood the popularity of Ren & Stimpy. Then again, my childhood memories of Nickelodeon are from the late 80's. We didn't have cable in the early 90's, so I didn't have Nickelodeon (I was more into Fox Kids during those years). I got cable again in the late 90's, so that's when my memories of Nick kick back in (by that point, "Rugrats" was the big marketing Nick show). So this material is interesting to me as a new experience (not for nostalgia). Well, except for that Zelda commercial - I remember that one!!

    • @80sCommercialVault
      @80sCommercialVault  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The show had a lot of off-color/adult humor and was immensely popular among teens/young adults...for a time it was the most watched scripted Cable TV program in 1993. To the point that it was eventually aired on Viacom's sister network MTV.

    05:22 - Check it out kids! A Harrison Ford movie odds are your parents are seeing while they stick you with a babysitter or older sibling for the evening.
    And it’s way better than that Surf Ninjas movie they promoted like three to four times in this vid!

      Saw with my parents as a rental from blockbuster like tons of other movies. I wasn't shielded from movies like many other kids are.
