This was a great run of commercials! I love seeing the local commercials and what was going on in those communities back then. Thanks again!

Wow this is a great set of commercials, especially starting off with the 900 hotline ad with Ice-T.

Just some random info, KOFY was know as KTZO from 1980 until 1986, the Dogs were used as the station ID spots even in that era. The station ID change due the the purchase of a radio Station know as KOFY, as seen in the commercials. 1998 marked the end of the classic KOFY era when Gabbert sold the station. It ended up being the WB channel in the area. In 2006 KOFY came back and the brought the dogs back to the station ID segments even using the the tag line "The Dogs are Back! Hell Yeah!" That all ended in 2022 when it was changed into a channel airing a bunch of Jerry Springer Re-Runs and Dr. Phil Garbage...

Cocoa Pebbles- I feel sorry for the dinosaur who’s holding up the entire rock star stage on his head in this commercial. It looked like he was struggling and getting a headache.

It was either that or pushing boulders with his head 40 hours a week down at the Gravel Pit.

Man, look at that voice cast for the Ghostbusters cartoon.
    Peter Cullen - Optimus Prime
    Alan Oppenheimer - Skeletor
Pat Fraley - Krang from Ninja Turtles
Susan Blu - Arcee from Transformers
Linda Gary - the Sorceress, Teela, Evil-Lyn AND Queen Marlena in He-Man
Erik Gunden - that's Lou Scheimer! In addition to being one of the founders of Filmation, he also voiced Orko and King Randor in He-Man
Erika Scheimer - Lou Scheimer's daughter, who voiced many characters in Filmation cartoons
Edit: Stan Lee did voice work in that Robocop cartoon.

5:03 - Kind of strange how the Marvel Action Universe only consists of one established Marvel character, and two outside properties.

Dino-Riders was a co-production between Marvel and Tyco toys. Marvel produced a Dino-Riders comic book series at the time: www.mycomicshop.com/search?TID=81501

They took no time trying to cash in on Roy Orbinson's death, but I vividly remember him during that time period. Something ghostly and ethereal about him. When I think about that time period he's part of it haunting it like a ghost.

      Orbison. It's spelled Orbison.
I believe this was a repackaging of his 1987 Greatest Hits compilation "In Dreams"
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_Dreams:_The_Greatest_Hits
in which Orbison re-recorded all of his hit songs.
He did have a strange and ethereal voice, which did not really diminish with age.

Paul from the Diamond Center, that brings back memories! Paul the pirate, Paul in jail for offering great deals, Paul the credit man.
God, I miss watching Sacramento TV with my siblings and parents growing up. Fox 40, CBS 13, ABC 10, channel 31, and channel 58.
13 used to be ABC and 10 used to be CBS, they swapped in the mid 90s.
Same with 31 and 58, 31 was WB and 58 was UPN, they swapped in the later 90s.

    5. “Ghostbusters” Ending- The Cross-eyed TV Skeleton Character in this scene has got to be one of the most bizarre character designs I’ve ever seen.

In the fall of 1986, I got the new Christmas catalog for Sears or JC Penney and was completely confused by the "Ghostbusters" toys. I don't think I knew of the accompanying cartoon series. The toys of "The Real Ghostbusters" were not in the catalog and I don't think I saw that cartoon series until the next year. It would be until years later that I would learn the whole story of the origins.
That "Marvel Action Universe" had a nice line-up. Back then, I only saw the Dino-Riders cartoon on a video tape.
The Fruity Pebbles commercial with the long-running gimmick of Barney trying to sneak away with Fred's cereal, inspired me to look into the advertising history to see when Post started and stopped using that set-up. It looks like it might have changed around 2009 or so.

Ice-T Official Phone Line-if it were still around, you could ask him a few questions about Car Shield 😆
Marvel Action Universe Intro-Disney+ should revive this and feature X-Men 97 as the lead-in
Marvel Action Universe Interstitial-actually liked that Robocop episode with the modern-day Robin Hood
Fatal Passions-not a sequel to Fatal Attraction

2:37 The "Ghostbusters" end credit theme song sounds a bit like "Maneater" by Hall & Oates, especially with the sax. "Let's Go, Ghostbusters" = "Oh, oh, here she comes"

I think the Diamond Center Commercials also appeared on KBHK, KCIU, and KTVU as well since they were the other big 3 independent stations in the Bay Area at the time... They might have even aired on KFTY in Santa Rosa as well. I really need to get the two tapes I have from the Twilight Zone Marathon that aired on KOFY in October of 1989 so you can get the commercials off of them...

Roy Orbison would have a pretty big posthumous hit a few months later with "you got it", which got quite a bit of airplay on mtv

    6. “Ghostbusters” End Credits- The artwork on the scrolling background during these end credits calls to mind for me if Alice from the story, “Alice In Wonderland “, went down the Rabbit Hole and instead of going to Wonderland, she goes to Hell and sees these images on the way there.

    • @Starfox-xy7zb
      @Starfox-xy7zb วันที่ผ่านมา

Wonderland always seemed to me like hell. Everything there is freakish and bizarre, and everyone is either dismissive or cruel to Alice.
The Cheshire Cat might have made an interesting ghost for Ghostbusters (either show), and they could have obviously used him for free.

Has anyone actually seen a good furniture store commercial? Having owners act in bad costumes was so cringey back then.

That Filmmation Ghostbusters cartoon was such a cheap attempt to cash in on the name. I know they had it first, because of that live action show back in the 70s, but it’s obvious this cartoon only existed because of the movie.

5:56 Ok, Barney, before I chase you again, I want you to do one thing: look at yourself. Just really look at yourself. Barney, you're a pathetic wreck! You do this every time! How much did the stage of yours cost? This is why you're defaulting on your mortgage! Here, Barney, here's 10 clams. Go buy yourself a few boxes, enjoy yourself! You have a problem, Barney!

    Welcome back 80sCV!
I always preferred Filmation's Ghostbusters over the "Real" animated series any day of the week and I'll die on that hill. It was on 3:30 after school on channel 11 (WPIX)! But I forgot the cringey "moral" segment that Filmation loved to do around this time.
    RIP Cal Worthington!

Definitely not an 80s cartoon without a forced moral so parents and TV groups won't think it's just brain-rot and 22 minuet long toy commercials.
