I am stll trying to figure out where the Mavericks / Raul Malo and that SOUND has been all my life; it's not just the voice - it's their musicianship. Simply masterful.
Raul's voice and energy, plus the bonus of Eddie Perez on guitar...well, it just doesn't get any better than that! Come back to Austin soon boys. You Rocked the house at La Zona Rosa!
I agree that NO ONE sings like Raul... the Mavericks are the best Country band ever! I am so glad they are back together again. I could never get tired of listening to them.
as soon as I heard Raul and the Mavericks sing this version of The Air That I Breathe, I searched online and bought their cd... absolutely beautiful and heart-rendering. Thank you for posting, 5***** awesome
Written (co-writer Mike Hazlewood) & performed first by Albert Hammond in 1972. What a song. Add to it the musicianship of the Mavericks and that voice, and WOW.
scorcherfan Well, i just listened to the original by the Hollies, which i thought you meant (never knew that there was a original) but i like the cover version of Raul so much better. Alan's Clarke voice is not that warm like Raul's but thanks anyway for your suggestion ;)
A very good cover of the 1974 Hollies' hit, and yes, that magnificent voice. The Hollies' harmonies made the original the #1 hit it was. This did hit big in the UK, but not here.
I just heard Raul Malo on PBS singing some of Buddy Hollys songs for a "Tribute to Buddy Holly"...I was blown away....Raul is absolutely a voice from Heaven...amazing voice...amazing man....I had never heard of him before this morning on PBS...but Im definately a huge fan from now on...
@Waldo99 --- Thanks for the tip on Phil Everly. It was hauntingly beautiful, and I loved the way the song ended. Wish all the subsequent versions had the same ending. Saved Phil's version to my Favs!
Mr. Eddie Perez is playing the guitar , he's currently touring & playing for Dwight Yolkum.....If you EVER get a chance to go see Raul or Dwight , don't miss it !!!...The're both fantastic live !!
A remake of a great song from one of my favorite vocalists. Love the song written by Mike Hazlewood and Albert Hammond ... & was also recorded by Phil Everly on his album "Star Spangled Springer" ... and, of course, also a hit of the Hollies.
English announcer at the beginning with Hollies comment. Of course the song was written and recorded in 1972 by Albert Hammond. The Hollies covered it in 1974
Raul toured very successfully for many years as a solo artist; and now The Mavericks have reunited, releases a GREAT new EP "Suited Up And Ready". Get it, and see how fabulous Raul and The Mavs still are! Better than ever. Great new video too. Google "Born To Be Blue" video The Mavericks. I can't add the link here.
Albert Hammond couldn´t do this song at all. Even if it was his own, Hollies was very good. But then we hadn´t heard Raul. He´s just fantastic!! What a voice! Love it!
I have sen Raul live, both on his own and with the Mavericks. He is versatile and the only comparison to make is Roy Orbison. The velvety smooth, honest, passionate voice, that gives him the ability to make every song his own.
@Waldo99 The Phil Everly album, "Star Spangled Springer" was produced by Duane Eddy. Duane found the song "The Air That I Breathe" which was written by Albert Hammond and Mike Hazelwood., and knew it would be a perfect choice for Phil. A few years later, The Hollies thanked Duane for discovering this beautiful song, which was such a huge hit for them. Not to leave this out, Warren Zevon did some arranging on that album.
In spite of all his many acknowledged talents, including a crystal clear voice, Raul is nowhere nearly as sexy as Allan Clarke in the day -- maybe the most natural singer to ever front a band.
Can you use video manager to turn up the volume . Other than the Hollies, this is the only good cover, but top note is missing......just hire a background singer who can do it.
Raul Malo has one of the all time great voices!
One of best songs of all time---this guy gives you chills. Holy cow!!
I am stll trying to figure out where the Mavericks / Raul Malo and that SOUND has been all my life; it's not just the voice - it's their musicianship. Simply masterful.
and they are very kind people too
Go see them in concert, if possible. Incredible and their musician ship really shows
Raul's voice and energy, plus the bonus of Eddie Perez on guitar...well, it just doesn't get any better than that! Come back to Austin soon boys. You Rocked the house at La Zona Rosa!
roy orbison lives on ,rual you have the voice of an angel ,well done
I agree that NO ONE sings like Raul... the Mavericks are the best Country band ever! I am so glad they are back together again. I could never get tired of listening to them.
Raul could grab any phone book and sing it out to perfection. This guy can flat out sing. Huge fan !!
as soon as I heard Raul and the Mavericks sing this version of The Air That I Breathe, I searched online and bought their cd... absolutely beautiful and heart-rendering.

Is there something this cat can't sing? He absolutely slays my Hero Roy Orbisons offerings! One of the best that's ever sucked air,this one.

One things for sure, he doesn't smoke...Great Singer and band..
A very good cover of the 1974 Hollies' hit, and yes, that magnificent voice. The Hollies' harmonies made the original the #1 hit it was. This did hit big in the UK, but not here.
shame im only getting audio from one speaker, this is too good not to be heard in stereo
me too !
I still love this song!
I hear Roy Orbison, as well...haunting...beautiful, one of my faves. Love Hollies 2. thanks, Raul.
Great band with Raul Malo...the Mavericks should have been bigger on the scene ..they are so good.
Freaking INCREDIBLE
Wow, thanks, that was really nice. I think I will look for more.j
Of
Jarun Potaja this sound, really great no matter who's songs he sings, nothing but improvement, agree?,j

@Waldo99 --- Thanks for the tip on Phil Everly. It was hauntingly beautiful, and I loved the way the song ended. Wish all the subsequent versions had the same ending. Saved Phil's version to my Favs!
I see Roy Orbison everytime I hear Raul. So similar. He is playing tonight in Austin for free. Wow.
my wife thanks you she loves Rauls voice
Mr. Eddie Perez is playing the guitar , he's currently touring & playing for Dwight Yolkum.....If you EVER get a chance to go see Raul or Dwight , don't miss it !!!...The're both fantastic live !!
one of the greatest singers ever
I love this version by the Mavericks.
I can't even listen to It by the Hollies
anymore.
Just love!!
A remake of a great song from one of my favorite vocalists. Love the song written by Mike Hazlewood and Albert Hammond ... & was also recorded by Phil Everly on his album "Star Spangled Springer" ... and, of course, also a hit of the Hollies.
I love Raul's gorgeous voice! His cover of Skynrd's "They Call Me The Breeze" is totally AWESOME! Give it a listen too! You won't regret it!
Beautiful! I love Raul's voice....sigh.....
Love Raul
English announcer at the beginning with Hollies comment. Of course the song was written and recorded in 1972 by Albert Hammond. The Hollies covered it in 1974
I love him...what a voice.
hahahaha... Solid!!! You just referenced Crispian St. Peters!!! God Bless You!!! SOLID Ref!!!
He played this in London last week.A magical performance.
Is there no song which Raul cant cover and make better?
Raul toured very successfully for many years as a solo artist; and now The Mavericks have reunited, releases a GREAT new EP "Suited Up And Ready". Get it, and see how fabulous Raul and The Mavs still are! Better than ever. Great new video too. Google "Born To Be Blue" video The Mavericks. I can't add the link here.
Albert Hammond couldn´t do this song at all. Even if it was his own, Hollies was very good. But then we hadn´t heard Raul. He´s just fantastic!! What a voice! Love it!
one of today's best vocalists.
RAUL - God bless you ............................................
I find lots of comments on Roy O.s version but no one seems to remember this was first and best done by Alan Clark and the Hollies
Very nicely done
@lejeune1945 So few remember the first version that I heard. Thank you for mentioning it!
just amazing.
I have sen Raul live, both on his own and with the Mavericks. He is versatile and the only comparison to make is Roy Orbison. The velvety smooth, honest, passionate voice, that gives him the ability to make every song his own.
He's playing scotland and the U.K. this month of May :D
Great remake of a lovely song.
@Waldo99
The Phil Everly album, "Star Spangled Springer" was produced by Duane Eddy.
Duane found the song "The Air That I Breathe" which was written by Albert Hammond and Mike Hazelwood., and knew it would be a perfect choice for Phil.

power and control, raul is so smooth.
BTW --- Raul Malo kicks butt on this song! Another Fav!
Love!
Very impressive,love Mavericks,
Why is RAUL not in the main stream of music?? He has more talent in his little finger than half of the entertainer’s that are at The Award Shows??
Connie Presley you got that right !!!!!!!
I love him 61 years old seen 100's of concerts.saw him live Friday best live show ever.why had I never heard of them before last week
My guess is because he does most of the song writing and his writing skills don't match his vocal abilities.
They are totally AWEsome !!
"only comparison to make is Roy Orbison"
--THAT'S who he reminds me of. I couldn't think of it otherwise.
makes me weak everywhere!!! LOVE HIM.....marry me!!!!!
Genial !!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hts voiceis golden
Killer voice.
Raul Malo is probably the sexiest singer alive. That voice, that smile...I can't gush enough about him!
What a voice Raul have, far better than Orbison
wszystkie utwory mi się podobaja szkoda że w europie mało o was słychac
class
Let's not forget the Hollies covered Phil Everly's romantic versiuon ,from the album "Star Spangled Springer"produced at Duane Eddys' studio in LA!
The VOICE
In spite of all his many acknowledged talents, including a crystal clear voice, Raul is nowhere nearly as sexy as Allan Clarke in the day -- maybe the most natural singer to ever front a band.
He does good
What a voice he has ,think he is about the only person to match Orbison.
Hollies,,,, respect. Raul,,,, Kneel!
@Julbutterfly I agree, his voice is otherworldly
Great performance. But should not surprise me. Almost everything The Mavericks or Raul Malo alone does is great.
NICE!
Can you use video manager to turn up the volume . Other than the Hollies, this is the only good cover, but top note is missing......just hire a background singer who can do it.
~~~~swoons~~~
try the Phil Everly take on this song,he recorded it first.
Funny intro from the announcer.
This may actually be the most erotic love song there ever was. This version is no slouch.
bloody great right? then the crude ending.wtf!
