  • Montana, 1867. In the sweltering heat of a brutal high plains summer, a group of civilian contractors are busy cutting hay to be used as feed for animals inside the walls of the US Army’s Fort C.F. Smith. Suddenly, the soldiers standing guard sound the alarm: They are under attack.
    The men, soldiers and civilians alike, retreat to the sparse cover of a makeshift corral-turned-fort.
    For the next roughly 12 hours, they will fight for their lives against the attacking Sioux, Cheyenne, and Arapahoe warriors fighting under the command of the legendary Red Cloud. In the fight that ensues, many men will die, and those who survive will forever remember the day of what will come to be known to history as “The Hayfield Fight”.

      I think that's down to the fact there are now so many similar YT sites to choose from and most are just as good, much better than the trash forced on us by the MSM and the ridiculous woke schools who just want to make actual Americans look like the bad guys with their agenda driven hate and biased hypocrisy etc. Am I a bad person for supporting Trump? He'll save America if you let him.

    Note the Arapaho were not involved in the powder river war or the boseman trail war as some call it. This was largely Lakota (Sioux) And some Cheyenne not nearly as many as some say. The Arapaho were also very limited in numbers at the Little Big Horn. The Arapaho were more closely tied to the Cheyenne not the Sioux and very seldom allied with the Sioux. There were only 4 Arapaho warriors at The Little Bighorn, and that is because they were taken prisoners by the Sioux before the battle and accused of scouting for the troops. They convinced the Sioux that they were coming to visit Cheyenne friends and later when the battle happened, days later they participated in it.

      Well, to be fair we only have record of those 4. There could have been more. We really have no clue what happened at the Little Big Horn as there are so many variations, tall tales and narratives - that's why it is so enigmatic. It could be it just was that 4, but coulda been more. We still don't even know if there were any survivors truly, like Frank Finkel, or how Custer died and who killed him.

    The “shoots far” (howitzer) had a psychological effect on the Indians. Fear of cannons was a force multiplier well above the actual effects of the cannons.

      The idea of the noble savage is a lie. They warred with each other for many centuries before white settlers arrived. They merely found an enemy they couldn't defeat.

    Thank y'all for this interesting episode, would'nt it not be way easier to say the allies or so than Sioux, Cheyenne and Arapaho? Important battle for sure, German officers of this time under fire were often daft not brave. I know that. Little critic guys, the Springfield rifle isn't a repeater but just a breech loading single shot gun . Your'e damn right no Indian knew that. But Custer and his troops were wiped out blame to the rifles lock which blocked the not well made cartridges after some shots. This men were lucky and you showed it very well! God's Blessings from Northern Germany Ludwig.

    The Comanche would have raids on full moon nights,,,,,,,,,,but it seems most other tribes would not fight at night, with the numbers the Warriors had, seems like they would have taken them at night if they had tried. Didnt they learn about these rifles in the Fetterman fight ????This fight was like Beecher Island fight,,,,alot against a little = Standoff,,,,them 50 at Beecher Island could shoot . I wish someone would make animated Movies of all the Indian War's,,,like Johnny Quest,,,,but far more advanced these day's,,,,and Lewis and Clarke,,,, Jedadiah Smith movies also,,,,,, that would be Cool !!!!!!!!

    Was Sternberg a former Prussian soldier? I’m asking based on the picture you used to represent him, what with the pickelhaube and everything

    • @diggingthewest7981
      @diggingthewest7981 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That photo is not a picklehaube but a model 1881 U.S. army dress helmet. The US army adopted the Prussian style dress uniforms during the time. And yes, strangely enough, Sternberg was a previous Prussian 2nd lieutenant prior.

      I wouldn’t romanticize either side. Those people were the owners of the land for millennia, and they reacted without much mercy upon another group who acted also without much mercy to land and resources they felt entitled to.
