Yeah, doubtful it was named after any particular style of raiding. If so, Comanche would have been the best as there were none better at raiding. Almost any raiding party would have sufficed. Tomahawk cruise missiles for example are not inspired by that specific weapon. I worked on many Tomahawk’s btw

I always have my maps open while listening. My Grandfather and Great Grandfather lived in Mercury, Texas and I grew up hunting & fishing in the central Texas area. I’m familiar with most of the places mentioned & your stories bring pictures of my youth to mind. My Great Great Grandfather and his son were both Texas Rangers. There was a Brady, Texas newspaper article that described his days chasing Indians. Strangly, my mothers side of the family are related to Cynthia Ann Parker, the mother of Quanah Parker. So my ancestors were both Indian & Indian fighters.

His father, Henry Coleman Hocker, was a justice of the peace.. first they lived in Red River county, and then they moved to southwest of San Antonio, and then on to Driftwood, Texas. Originally from Kentucky. I'd love to find more info on them, as it's been real hard to find the history. I do have all his war info from his Texas Cavalry days, but finding Ranger info has been tough so far, other than a census listing.
My great grandmother was an Austin, and I traced us back to my great grandfather being one of Moses Austin's brothers. I often wonder how many Texans don't even know any of their history, and it could really be pretty neat to know. We had no idea he was a Ranger for example.

    Sun Set
That sun still sets in the west
But that old trail is asphalt now
Baked by the sun hot and dry
The sounds of hoofs have passed
Herds of buffalo graze no more
    Barbwire strung along
The fence post passed like a picket fence
As the truck tires whine on
The sweetgrass has all but gone
The Mesquite is tall and thick
    Prickly Pear covers the prairie
    The Longhorns have gone
A saddle all covered in dust
    The moth-riddled blanket flaps
    Riding quirt amiss
Old spurs hung on a wall
On a post hangs a leather belt
With a holster cracked and rotting
    That old hogleg turned brown
    Brass all green
The lassoing cowboy is no more
    That broad hat tipped back
    His shirt sleeves rolled high
    Jeans rolled double
    His hair thinned and gray
    High cheekbones darken
    Bull hide tough
    Hand scars a many
    With eyes squinting
    A straw chair leaned back
    Daydreaming
    No more round ups
That last ride was long ago
With a rolled cigarette on his lip
His words in a low key
That sun still sets in the west

Our farm borders an Indian reservation in Wisconsin.
My dad told me a funny story about mules after WW2. Army surplus mules were given to the native farmers to use as draft animals. These mules could not bray as their vocal cords had been cut. This was done so as not to betray themselves and their soldier handlers to the enemy. They were also trained to lie down when they heard an air raid siren.
They however could not distinguish air raid sirens from fire trucks.
And as the farmers plowed their fields if a fire truck wailed by the mules would lay down on the job!

Well if their way of life was so much better why don't you ditch you modern life, go off grid. You won't because that way of life sucks. Just another internet tough guy spouting neo-primitivist bullshit.

I like how people mention that the commanche were able to "hunt" buffalo once they got horses.. no one mentions that they chased herds off cliffs and left a majority of the meat and hides. Who reaally depleted the buffalo?
