A Whammo Air Blaster, completely unaltered, available in every toy store in the country, kids watching this film when it first came out could not have failed to recognize it. It shot a (supposedly) harmless puff of air after being "pumped" with that lever on top and when it did it even made that exact "Pop!" noise you hear it make in the film. When I was a kid I visited my cousin & he had one (this was in the 80's, long after it had been banned, it must have originally been his father's or something)
@@briangonigal3974 absolutely right! I was wondering if anyone would spot that. You could probably get them for 1$ or less at your local Five and Dime store. And I may be wrong but I think it got named in the opening credits. I know way too much about this shit…
Omg, Mark! I was 7 years old in 1964 and Mrs. Braxton, the Den Leader, took our entire Cub Scout troop to the Saturday matinee to see, Santa Claus Conquers the Martians. But the Den Leader only had two parent chaperones to watch over all of us, and the movie theater was packed with kids. Without the doubt, my favorite part of this absurdity is while Santa stands back and basically has the kids attack the aliens while doing absolutely nothing but laughing in the background before a close up is shown lol.
That gun is actually a Wham-O toys air blaster, so they just went to the Canadian Tire Toy Aisle. I love this movie, I even have the book and comic set.
I LOVED my WHAM-O air blaster, and the break-apart plastic gorilla target you got with it. I never understood until many many years later why it was dangerous. I guess I was just a good girl, only blasted it at the gorilla. Shrug. Boring childhood. Well, at least my neighborhood was liberally planted with oleander! So, you know, there *was* danger.
Ironically, my late father once told me that this movie was an annual tradition for him growing up, and they would show it on the weekend before Christmas at the local drive-in theaters. =)
Yeah--actually I don't think it's really much of a contest, this one's truly a classic of bad. Although it is interesting how seemingly very normal kids like Kirk Cameron and Michael Jackson grow up to be such strange adults.
As a "treat", my elementary school showed Santa Claus Conquers the Martians. I think my teachers hated us or maybe they were doing some proto-trolling (it was the 90's). It was fun to see it on MST3k years later, though.
That Martian pistol is just a stock, off the shelf, Wham-O! Air Blaster toy gun. That weak sound it makes in the movie is the actual, on set recording of the toy being used by the actor. Might be a product promotion, honestly.
@@CaptainNice I'm old enough to remember those air blasters and I thought that they were made by Marx, but the online commercial I found was for Wham-O. I've been following your work and I've learned alot. I'd love to see you review not just terrible movies. Best regards.
The tiny skits in the review bring me joy every time 😂🥰
Hands down the best editing I’ve seen you do. Great work, I’m always excited when you drop a new video.
24:04 Sense nobody else seems to be bringing it up, it's explained that the second Santa suit that Dropo wears was made by Lady Momar. Now the fake beard Dropo has, that's never explained.
The Martian names remind me of the elves names in Disenchantment. In fact I think one is actually called Droppo. Possible inspiration by Matt Groening?
The newspapers at 18:26 are absolutely hilarious. like the first and last are about Santa being kidnapped but all the international stuff are about random stuff like the death of a communist leader in Poland and the Congo rebellion.
Holy shit I think this movie brought out your violent side. Your inserts were great
18:11 What was the freeze gun sound???🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.
It looked sooo ridiculous
