The radiation they give off is minor so unless you use them every day for every meal, you'll be fine.

This movie was the third and final film in the OSI (Office of Scientific Investigation) trilogy. It was okay but hampered by the wooden acting of Richard Egan and Constance Dowling. Only Hollywood heavyweight Herbert Marshall saves it. The other movies in the series were "Riders to the Stars" (the worst of the trio) and "The Magnetic Monster," the first and best, with Richard Carlson and King Donovan. That movie benefited from being able to repurpose an obscure but effective German science fiction film called "Gold" (1930). Oddly, Richard Carlson's character Jeff Stewart from "The Magnetic Monster" was not reprised in either of the sequels and, in fact, Carlson played a completely different character in "Riders to the Stars" (he went from strong leading man to sniveling coward). The success of his TV show "I Led Three Lives," along with "The Creature From the Black Lagoon" and his ill-fated directorial debut in "Riders to the Stars" kept him from filming "Gog," which was probably fortunate, though it also might have kept him from getting behind the camera.
Didn't Dan Akyroyd host a tv-show in the 90's that was based on the OSI? Sort of a knockoff X-files, starred that guy from Max Headroom, I think... PsyFactor or something like that.

It really blows my mind how fucking heavy those things were, and the worst part is there's NEVER a good angle to lift them from. No matter how you grab it, ALL the weight instantly shifts away from the lifter and the TV does everything possible to crash itself into the ground as soon as you get it above waist height. I fucking loved it when school's just had a couple of them on a GIANT fucking cart, secured with ratchet straps, and the teachers had to get the custodian to drag the fucking thing all the way across the building into the room. And them we all had to "SHUT UP AND BE QUIET!!!!" just to hear the damn thing.
The interesting thing is experiment at the start of the film is totally real. Scientists would freeze hamsters beyond the limit (all the water molecules in the body would be frozen) and put a hot spatula in its chest region to revive it again and it worked! But to do this in a more sophisticated way, they created microwave oven that we use in our houses. They would put the frozen hamsters in that oven and bring it back to life again. They had microwave oven back then but it was only for industrial use. It's so fascinating that this experiment gave us microwave oven right in our houses. Godspeed with the surgery, mark. The ultimate contingency plan make sure the government itself survived even if the bulk of the population was long gone. It really puts sharp point on just how pointless any safety stuff like this really would have been in practice. They knew exactly how bad it really was going to be even as they told people it was totally fine and survivable. The levels of security and secrecy really tell you they knew it was going to be bad if it actually happened.
OMG! I actually SAW this movie back in my youth but had forgotten all about it! It was the random waving of the robots' arms that brought it all back to me. Of all the nonsense in this film, that dopey arm-waving is what shattered my willing suspension of disbelief and crossed the line into hokum for me. I was fine with everything else. It seems pretty obvious to me now that they had all these sciencey props but no idea of how real science actually worked or what it did. Some smoke & flames and that was their answer for everything. That forest of tuning forks though!

This movie should be preserved because of its depiction of the Turing machine. I have never seen such a good example of the concept of early programming. Looks like either the makers of movies were passionate about computers or they did their research. I hope these people lived to see the early PCs.

The freezing thing actually happened in the 50's with hamsters. They had to invent the microwave to heat them up again. It worked on hamsters. Tom Scott has a video on it.
Overhead projectors were used in schools for a short while and the teacher somehow never knew how to use it. Edit: they also didn't know how to use the wheely cart tv's vcr/dvd or remote so they would always call over a random student to get the machine to play the movie.

You make some great points in this video that I can appreciate. When I was a wee lad watching the OG Star Trek, I loved the instrumentation and technology the most. It helped propel me into the engineering field. I noticed right away all the lights, buttons, switches, and almost NONE of them are ever labeled. I started noticing it in other scifi and I'm still noticing it even today. ALIEN, for example, is FILLED with pointless flashing lights and switches that would take years to memorize if they were actually important enough to exist. As for monkey ghosts, the ghost remains of millions of the Rhesus monkeys and lab rats, that needs to be explored. Thank you for mentioning those two painfully obvious factors in science fiction of this quality. I feel vindicated.

I used to install 19" CRTs in hospitals (early 2000s). Damn things were 65lbs each and mounyed high up on the wall

Looks like they lowered gravity by the technology called "slow motion". Truly amazing.
This movie should be preserved because of its depiction of the Turing machine. I have never seen such a good example of the concept of early programming. Looks like either the makers of movies were passionate about computers or they did their research. I hope these people lived to see the early PCs.

I remember hanging in there through the crushing boredom because I was absolutely convinced that the ending would make it worth it. The freezing thing actually happened in the 50's with hamsters. They had to invent the microwave to heat them up again. It worked on hamsters. Tom Scott has a video on it.
Overhead projectors were used in schools for a short while and the teacher somehow never knew how to use it.
Edit: they also didn't know how to use the wheely cart tv's vcr/dvd or remote so they would always call over a random student to get the machine to play the movie.
We used them during most of my childhood.
my schools used them my entire school career without an issue.
@@manlymcstud8588 I wouldn't say without an issue in our case... Sometimes the bulbs went and fuses etc. It allowed teachers to prepare material beforehand.
@@thursoberwick1948 sure, those things burned out. teachers would cart them to a spare classroom or, ahem, 'borrow' from a different teacher while waiting for maintenance to replace the bulb or fuse. seems all the schools i went to had a junk room stuffed with equipment with minor issues or not-in-use stuff....

I actually like this movie. True the title doesn't fit the movie plot but it's still a very entertaining movie.

You know, the way GOG can follow complicated commands so well made me think it could be used remotely to carry out tasks too dangerous for humans... But, also the danger room full of electronic tuning forks helped me to understand how something like that could never be a thing.

You make some great points in this video that I can appreciate. When I was a wee lad watching the OG Star Trek, I loved the instrumentation and technology the most. It helped propel me into the engineering field. I noticed right away all the lights, buttons, switches, and almost NONE of them are ever labeled. I started noticing it in other scifi and I'm still noticing it even today. ALIEN, for example, is FILLED with pointless flashing lights and switches that would take years to memorize if they were actually important enough to exist. As for monkey ghosts, the ghost remains of millions of the Rhesus monkeys and lab rats, that needs to be explored. Thank you for mentioning those two painfully obvious factors in science fiction of this quality. I feel vindicated.
