Could it have been another issue where the small civilian jet lost cabin pressure causing the pilots and passengers to fall unresponsive due to oxygen deprivation. It happened a while back with a pro golfer and the plane was set to autopilot so it flew until it finally ran out of gas. In any case always sad to hear about civilian airplanes going down, condolences to the friends and families of those affected

I was just thinking the Payne Stewart incident.
Finally someone with sense. Payne Stewart in 99 crashed in south Dakota from that very situation.
That was in 1999 and F-16s didn't go supersonic to try and "catch it".
These jets went supersonic and did not catch the Cessna?

Sonic booms were common things when I was a kid in the 70’s. We thought they were cool! Now, after they passed rules about noise and made sonic booms go away, they freak people out. How times have changed!
We know what they sound like but for the younger generation that never heard them before, it could terrify them.

Only ever heard one or two, but I remember the TV public service commercials that explained what they were so people were aware. They also wanted people to know that if you heard one, it didn't mean we were being attacked by Russia. There were actually a lot of beneficial public service announcement which I think would still be helpful like the forest fire and anti-litter ads. Remember, "Don't be a litter bug, 'cause every litter bit hurts." That has stuck with me all these years. When I'm out in public I save any trash I have even if it's a straw wrapper for the trash bin.
Jets practice flying under radar near my home in the Appalachian mountains, I do not regret the absence of sonic booms with them only a couple hundred feet over my house

About ten years ago, I remember a plane accidentally broke the sound barrier over my house while practicing for the Chicago Air Show. Thought my windows were going to shatter.
Lucky they didnt. Usually that sonic boom breaks glass if the altitude of the plane is low enough. One of the reasons Concord failed.
We had that in Redcliffe area in Brisban Australia too! Bloody house shook really weirdly.

Used to hear sonic booms when I was in school in maybe the 70's and 80's . Haven't heard them in a long time .
I’m a little bit jealous because it’s a powerful thing to behold. I was born in 88 so they cracked down on that a lot but I have heard one in my life when I lived in Atlanta. It sounded like an 18 wheeler had been dropped on our house. I walked into the giant living room, expecting to see it completely destroyed. Do you know if they are allowed at airshows? I’d really like to experience one again.
Usually going supersonic over populated areas is prohibited since the 90s or something I believe. In a situation like this however you just kinda have to do it. I'm sure the FAA will want some paperwork filled out regardless lol

Back in the early sixty's I remember sound barrier booms now and then in the summer months,never seemed to be a big deal. But I remember them.
I can remember a time when hearing sonic booms was a normal occurrence and did not elicit any reaction. My how times have changed.

It was so loud you felt the vibration.. a sonic boom is a wave of pressure created when an aircraft travels faster than the speed of sound, 750 miles per hour. How loud something is has zero to do with the pressure wave created. The speed of the aircraft going faster than the speed of sound, creates waves of pressure much like the bow of a ship at sea. What you felt has nothing to do with how loud something was that you heard.

Well atleast it sounds like the people onboard the crashing jet were unconscious. You likely feel no pain in a plane crash, but at least since they were unconscious they were not panicking. They went for a nap and ended up in heaven.

This sounds exactly like what happened to Payne Stewart in 1999. The plane he was on, a Learjet 35, crashed in South Dakota with no survivors.
The NTSB eventually determined that the crash was a result of crew member incapacitation due to a loss of cabin pressure.

Everyone was unconscious in their seats except a crew member who could only keep it going in circles before they passed out till they ran out of fuel. That makes no sense.
They (sonic booms) just happen when jets are going so fast and break the “sound barrier”. It creates a huge boom in the atmosphere and the sound waves spread out and cause
windows to rattle so much you think they are going to shatter.
Since the jets were trying to catch the private plane I’m sure they were flying as fast as possible to catch up to it.
So….there is no “point to it”….it just occurs.

I live close to Beale today, and there is not many sonic booms.. But those Jets go really, really, high and fast over my house, and I don't even hear them, they are so high up there... All I can see is their contrails...

It probably had something to do with autopilot.
Maybe it lost pressure when they turned to line up to land. Just a guess. They made the left hand turn and flew right over the destination airport.
Maybe someone else knows more about the autopilot, but I think you can set all of the waypoints along the route. Once the last waypoint is reached, I believe the autopilot will just keep the plane on the same heading. That would explain the course this plane took. The pilot could have have been incapacitated any time after the autopilot was turned armed.
Planes, military planes included, are only allowed to go over the sound barrier when given special permission. Sonic booms can shatter windows from miles up, not something the military wants to happen over civilian airspace on a regular basis. Not everything is a conspiracy, most of time it's just your ignorance.

Wow..."passed out pilot", four souls on board when it went down, and no follow-up on who they were or the tragedy of their lost lives? They have to see if there is a flight recorder, black box, etc., and if there is and they are undamaged, they can read them and find a lot of information that will THEN help them with the rest of it.. For sure, if they found the passengers AND their ID's, they have already contacted next of kin, etc., and that part is probably done... Of course, the next of kin may not want to be interviewed for awhile, as the grieving process begins... It's not the reporters fault... It's people like you that seem to want instant everything, when that is not always possible...

Hopefully the flight recorder will let us know what happened. Sorry to hear about the crash, if it's another issue with loss of cabin pressure then it's high time that aircraft manufacturers did something about this and put in emergency systems to handle flight controls - those systems exist on many modern aircraft, maybe it's time all aircraft had them and not just the ones for the wealthiest of the wealthy.
