My aunt and uncle had a ranch at the very east end of the canyon. I always enjoyed watching the trains as we drove through the canyon. That tunnel on the right at 13:09 was my marker that we were almost there. While there, anytime I heard the rumble of the diesels, I would jump up on the coral fences and watch the train move by in the distance like a small micro train. Thanks for the great video.
Another fantastic video yet again! When people ask to see a video of trains to understand, your work is what I show. Keep up this frequency makes the pandemic a little more bearable with these videos.
Beautiful video Dan! The trains winding their way through the curves of the Yakima River Canyon were mesmerizing. Thank you for sharing this video with us!
This is wonderful. A freeze frame from any of the scenes along the reflecting river would be an award winning still photo. It's great to see places like this that are overlooked by railfan publications, which seem to keep going back to the same locations.
Your BEST Video yet. I have kept rewatching it over and over. Loved the reflection of the train in the still mirror like river water. The DJI iNSPIRE Drone is an amazing cenematic platform of our time. The shots were All EPIC ! Thank you so much.
I haven't been through this area since I was a kid in the 1950s. I always loved our family drives that took us through the canyon, but my dad hated getting stuck behind slow moving vehicles with very few opportunities to pass. He preferred the route through Vantage which, as far as scenery (and trains!!!) went, was nowhere. Great getting reacquainted with these videos!
I can’t find the words to describe the pleasure your beautiful work gives to me , you and a handful of others are turning railfaning into a cinematic art form . I am an n scale modeller and your work has been so useful and a great inspiration to me . Love your soundtrack 😑
I've always made a point of driving down this canyon when in this part of Washington State. Lovely to see it from the air. To paddle down that stretch in a canoe would be great especially if a train went by. Your drone technique just seems to get better and better.
When I travel to or from the pacific northwest, I sometimes get off the freeway and drive through this canyon. It adds an extra hour to the trip but is a lot more interesting than going up on Umptanum and Manastash Ridge.
This is some outstanding footage. When I attended Central Washington University in the later 1970s, this was an active Burlington Northern route and the Amtrak Empire Builder was still using this route as well, switching to Stevens Pass later. The Milwaukee Road was still running as well. Good times.
Just superb!!!!!! Sooooo much more than trainspotting and the production qualities are first rate. I use the UP Rainbow Canyon vid as my yardstick for comparisons and consider this to be the equal of that for sure. The drone gives access to locations that we would never be able to access and a perspective to allow the full appreciation of how beautiful the surroundings are - thoroughly enjoyed!
Thanks a lot! That tickles my fancy to hear you use Rainbow Canyon to compare because I am so Inspired by that place! I was there last year for 4014 and it's so spectacular. One of the single best regions on the whole UP system for sure. I wish I lived closer.
@@TheRailfanDan I reside some 7500 miles away and thanks to your efforts I get to experience the next best thing short of being 'on the ground' - you just never know how your efforts impact others so far removed - appreciated!!
Beautiful especially the River mirroring the train. So much improvement in the line to include welded continuous rail, concrete ties, right of way and road bed. Everything points to more traffic on this line.
I have watched many of your videos...this one is one of my favs...All the elements of this vid were just right...the photography, the scenery, and very importantly the music choice was great, and of course....The Trains...keep up the good work!!
Once again nice filming. My aunt and uncle live off of thrall road on the east side of the 82 and we can see the trains as they enter the canyon from Ellensburg. Most of the trains come from Auburn yard as empties even an oil train now and then. Rarely do you see a train from Yamaha unless it's the local. It seems the loaded trains come down the Columbia gorge and then make the circle back. Could be they don't want to jam the gorge with empties.
I love all your videos. You have really outdone yourself this time. All I can say is WOW when I look at those views from about 5:20 to 6:45! When I lived in this area, I never saw any of it like this. Well done, Dan, well done!
And finally, a close-up of the bridge at Roza Dam which can't be seen from the highway, of course, and Google Maps Satellite view is too high to provide any detail. I've always wanted to see it in detail. Now my life is complete. Very nice 180-degree looping effect as well earlier on. That was majestic. I was hoping for an overhead view of the landslide across from the Roza campground which fell in the 1890's. Were you able to photograph it as well?
Fantastic footage. Loved 5:30 - 6:00 and then again around Roza dam at 22:30. I ventured into the canyon back in 2014 with a DJI v1.1.1 and it's great to see how the drones have advanced to get long flight times. I only had about 6 minutes and 30 seconds back then. Great job and thanks for sharing it.
Dear Dan: Excellent camera work and drone skills. Your choice of locations are awesome. I wonder if you could get a bit closer view of the locomotives the next time! After all its a railfanning channel :)
Thanks a lot Tony! These same trains mostly come West through the Columbia Gorge on the Fallbridge Subdivision, unload somewhere on the Seattle Sub between Portland and Seattle, and then spit back out East through here. The only Westbound train this line sees is the Local out of Pasco that goes as far as Ellensburg.
WOW! Such impressive footage! How does one track so well and smoothly with a drone? Is there a way you can frame the subject, and the drone takes care of the rest? (You can tell that I have never used a good drone, as I ask these questions.)
@@richardcorn5090 Honestly no. Maybe some year down the road but no real desire for it at the moment. The loops look neat but all those powerlines overhead really kill it for me.
Wow. That horseshoe curve is one of the best internet train images I have ever seen.
FANTASTIC Stuff!!!!! My wife gets tired of me watching train videos but loves yours! Thanks so much.
Well that is a great compliment! Haha
Have the same problem with my wife
Dan, Dan, DAN! Dan The MAN! That was just incredible!
Thanks a lot Rick! Much appreciated!

You are the best when it comes to train photography
Thanks a lot!
Too awesome Railfan Dan!!! Almost better than being there!! Thank you!!!
You're welcome. Thank you!
Having lived in Ellensburg 28 years, it is always great to see the Yakima Canyon anytime of the year. The only thing missing is the eagles.
And rattlesnakes! :) That is honestly one of the best drives in the country - gorgeous.

That's very cool!
Wow Dan, brilliant filming and a spectacular set of views. Great reflections from the river

The qualities of these videos are just amazing and sounds even better when you have a 7.1 sound system
Beautiful once again Dan , thanks so much !!
14:40 Nice view of *_The Beaver Tail_* and *_Rock Garden._*
It's my favorite section of the canyon.
I HAVE OFTEN SEEN BIGHORNS ABOVE THE ROCK GARDEN

Wow, wow, wow! Magnific vídeo. Great! The reflection of the image in the River is fantastic!
The reflection segment is awesome!

What a cool place they live! It's beautiful through that canyon. Yeah almost all Eastbound empty trains to help mitigate the busy gorge.
Great shot, Dan!!👍
Wonderful! so many places that I know

It does take a good chunk of time. Some need more work than others including this one so I'd say I've been working on and off for 2 weeks on it.

If only BNSF would run more westbound traffic on the stampede line.
