    As a person who has taken a day and driven this route half a dozen times, I find it truly amazing that you were able to track a single train all the way through and still hit all the major scenic spots. In this video you showed me some features I didn't even know were there. The drone adds so much to the experience. Well done!

      Thank you! This makes my 3rd trip there to railfan and at this point I remember location well enough to know what locations I can get back to back. It's pretty amazing all the signature locations are spaced apart enough to be able to film them all back to back.

    Another superb video Dan, that is the best videoing of the Williams loop i have seen, my wife and i chased a up manifest over the same route after the train stopped at Spring garden, we sat on the side of the road overlooking it and the engineer came over to us and invited us to look over the locos, took into the cab of the lead unit then the second one, gave us lots of mementos, super nice crew, we then chased him all the way through the canyon

    Sensational!!! The drone is far and away the best platform to allow a full appreciation of the difficult terrain through which to construct and maintain a class 1 railroad. A derailment in that canyon country must be a nightmare to recover. Very well done!

    Total Awesome. Great Work. Thanks for putting captions of the locations for Rail Fans that aren't familiar with the Feather River Canyon.The drive through the Feather River Canyon on Highway 70 is my favorite drive. Wish it was still Western Pacific but after 40 or more years, UP is starting to grow on me. Glad that the Locomotives were GEVO's, don't like SD70ACe's as their horns are too load. There was a lot of run through UP power in the 70's , as well as BN. WP leased some UP U30C's and SD40-2 while WP's GP35's and Early GP40's were rebuilt by Morrison-Knudsen and WP ordered 15 new GP40-2's. I did not like the horns on the SD40-2's they were very obnoxious.

    • @TheRailfanDan
      @TheRailfanDan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is one I've been trying to get for a while now but regular schedule trains run over it at night as far as I know. There are times when things get off schedule and run over it in daylight or they run extra trains on the weekend in the daylight but I have to have a pretty decent heads up from someone about it to manage it. To be honest it's about my least favorite drive through the entirety of the Willamette Valley which is what that is so things have to line up really dang perfectly for me to capture that.

      Thanks! Using the DJI Osmo Action on the ground. Well I've flown for almost 5 years now and flying the Inspire 2 definitely results in the smoothest videos BY FAR. I've flown it for 1.5 years now. I use PowerDirector to edit. 🙂

    • @Atsf1976
      @Atsf1976 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheRailfanDan About the DJI Osmo Action. Do I need to buy a microphone to pickup the sound like you do? Does it automatically focus and is it really 4k? Does it record to my phone or a mini sd card? Thanks in advance.

    • @Atsf1976
      @Atsf1976 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheRailfanDan One last question if you can get to it. Is the camera only good if you are trackside or can you zoom in from far away? Thanks and I look forward to more of your drone videos.

    • @TheRailfanDan
      @TheRailfanDan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Atsf1976 The Osmo Action is capable of recording audio by itself. Yes it's 4K about the cheapest 4K camera on the market. It's infinite focus so no need to do anything there and does record to a micro SD card. There is no kind of zoom capability. It's basically a GoPro but made by DJI.

    Great ! If you have Diesel-Sound may be it would be a good idea if we hear both - musik and Diesel and may be Sound af rolling stock.

    • @hcrun
      @hcrun 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I disagree about the diesel sound when the footage is from the drone. The fact that it is from the air lends itself more to background music rather than possibly very low-volume engine noise. IMO, the music Dan has chosen is perfect.

    • @TheRailfanDan
      @TheRailfanDan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you both. The biggest issue with that is the drone doesn't record audio because if it did then you would only hear what would sound like a bees nest from the props. Anyone who wants the sound of the train itself had to set up ground recorders to capture sound and edit it in to the drone video. It then becomes tedious to match the sound to the video and make it sound like what you're watching. I've done that a few times and I've always been very satisfied with the result but it adds a whole lot more time to editing which I really don't have patience for. Editing already takes me longer than I want it to even using music.

    Wow!
    My father has always talked about this place and maybe later in the year 2024 I will get a chance to visit it. To some questions.
    From the first time you catch the train until you leave it. How long does it take the train to travel this distance.
    If I come here I will choose Keddie Wye and Wiliams loop to try and see some train. Can you manage to move between the places, or do you have to hope that there are two trains during the time you are there.
    Is there also a parking lot that is in the middle of everything. Where you can see trains from slightly different angles, not only at Keddie Wye but other places in the canyon. Like a high altitude where you can see the train coming and you can follow it with your eyes.
    Many thanks for this movie.
    Greetings from Sweden.
    😃 🇸🇪

    • @TheRailfanDan
      @TheRailfanDan  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Greetings and thanks a lot! So, some answers for you.
      Pretty much everything you saw here you can count on as far as locations you can catch the same train over and over. From the first spot seeing this train to the last spot was about 4.5 hours. So a 4.5 hour chase. Driving it as a straight shot is closer to 2 hours. Yes from Keddie Wye to Williams Loop you can make it to see the same train in both locations but you do have to be quick about it. Not really any parking lots near most of these spots just places to pull off of the highway or Williams Loop for example can get right down at the cross point which is a little bit off the highway. Not too many high altitude shots in the canyon from the ground. The only good one that comes to mind is Pulga which is near the West end of the canyon. Hope this helps!
