Stunning scenery again. I live in Illinois and have only been west twice and not that far north so being able to see the scenery out there is wonderful. I think what makes your video's outstanding is the combination of scenery and seeing the full size of these trains from above. And I appreciate your commentary, especially pointing out things like Mt. Hood, the waterfall, the bridge and some history of some of the area's. And they are very professionally done. Thank you.
I have been to most of these locations, only from ground level. I live in Gresham, Or. Usually there are 2 loaded coal trains each day, one goes to Robert's Bank, BC Canada whereas the 2nd one goes to the steam plant at Centralia, Wa. Most of the grain trains go to Kalama, Wa to serve Harvest States or Peavey grain terminals to be shipped overseas. You did a fantastic job!! Thanks Steven W Schuman

Lotta good memories of friends & family and times spent together when I saw this-my daughter saw what I was watching as she was leaving for work, stopped, smiled and said "I remember that". Great video, awesome location for catching trains with beautiful scenery. I haven't made it up there in years so it is great to see the wide variety of trains. You even caught a portion of the old flume on the hillside that carried lumber from the mill above.

Greate video as always. Last Monday the weather was perfect and a 3 hour drone session was made. During the last flight a boat and the swing bridges were busy.
It was truly amazing weather-clear skies and no wind. Your drown pilotage continues to amaze me. Your close ups of the H BARPAS (Barstow, CA-Pasco, WA) crossing the river were special. You noted the large number of loaded grain and coal trains. The grain trains are all headed to one of the PNW ports to have the grain loaded onto bulk cargo ships headed to Asia. It takes 10 unit grain trains to load one ship. Those coal loads originate from mines in Montana and Wyoming and are headed to Roberts Bank, BC. Eastbound empties can return via the Fallbridge Sub or via Stampede or Steven’s Passes. The white Mt. Hood in the background was a beautiful touch to a gorgeous day. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for this outstanding video of railfanning along the Columbia River Gorge on 15 March 2024, Dan! You saw and captured numerous trains and the scenery was beautiful. That was an expansive area of grape vines that belonged to the winery along the river.
You and Mark really had great weather and conditions for this, love the mirror images ! Also love the facts you told about bridges, Cascade locks and Multnomah falls. The series of tunnel shots is amazing, what a marvel these tunnels are especially for when they were built, and loved how you lingered at the falls. So very relaxing, another reason to look forward to Saturday to see what you will release each week, well done 👏

Think I met you after one after there on this day driving towards Portland on I 84 as I was 5 hours behind you. And you’re right the day before the show the day after the show no wind and no rain.
The weather was indeed perfect on this particular day. Cloudless blue sky, no wind and nice sunshine. No wonder the drone's pictures are fantastic. It's so cool when we see the train's reflection in the river. That long bridge is amazing. Just like the tunnels, those are true engineering marvels. I'm sure your friend really enjoyed this day with you. The landscape here is totally different than around Chicago. At 24:46 are those logs on the surface of the water? Terrific update as always Dan. I really appreciate your hard work and dedication.
The most beautiful part of the Gorge is in the area around The Dalles, where you'll see a VERY fast, and noticeable transition from a true green rain forest to desert in less than ten miles! It's something I have never seen anywhere else, and I love seeing it more and more every time I'm in the area.

I always love your videos. The quality of your drone flying and video is top notch. Great to see this video, showing several places we have been. My only complaint about this video is that the trains on the Oregon side were getting blasted by that afternoon sunlight and came out overexposed. Hard to see any details on those trains.
Thanks my friend and yes there was some horrible backlight in some of this but I almost like it as a challenge to see how decent I can make it look. That shot at Tunnel 1 still didn't turn out great though.

It's good that these rail lines were built more than 100 years ago. With todays environmentalism, there's not a snowballs chance in hell these lines could be built now.

I'm not sure what brand it is, but it's surely an old railway horn. And finally, what through line in the world has more of a spectacular entrance and exit than the Oregon Trunk and Gateway Sub? I mean, seriously...if there was a passenger train that would traverse that entire length, those passengers would be treated to not only the Columbia River trestle to the north, but the Keddie Wye to the south!
I did not know about any horn atop the bridge, that's cool! My opinion is that there is no more spectacular train route than what the VAWBAR does. From the Gorge, to the Deschutes River Canyon and the rest that is great on the OT, Klamath Basin region, Gateway Sub is marvelous in its own right, Feather River Canyon, then ending it all grinding up the Tehachapi mountains. There's your passenger train!

Why, if this is to become the norm, the SOP, do people not insist on the crossings being replaced by bridges or tunnels. It is cheaper for the TOCs to disrupt aid to the society, than it is to employ more people and run trains as they used to be run. And the TOCs also murder the idiots who get stuck on your antiquated system of NOT using LEVEL CROSSINGS, you just have to put up with dangerous humps in the surface. Why not drag the US into the 20th century, or at least the 19th?

It is amazing how quickly it changes between Mosier and The Dalles and agreed I don't know of anywhere I have seen it change landscapes that quickly.

Thank you! I fly DJI drones. The Mavic 3 Pro as my main and also use the Air 3 as a secondary. They both are capable of flying multiple miles away.

At about 5:07 the BNSF freight is above what looks like an old railroad grade. Is that the ccase?
Yes I believe so but the history on it I do not know. I would have to do some digging.
How is speed sync maintained between the engines. Clearly if not exactly the same, one engine could introduce drag.
Good question which I don't exactly know the answer but I would imagine these days that is all computer controlled.
