    Absolutely amazing , everything. Words fail me, such is the beauty of all things, the landscape, the water and the craftmanship. Well done, Dan.

    My father in law worked for the SP&S and Burlington Northern as an engineer out of wishram and use to tell me stories about this run to Bend Oregon. He's gone now but he would have loved seeing this from the air with the big locomotives. He always wanted to get in one but never got the chance he retired in 1977.
    Thanks for the aireal memory lane.

      Thanks a lot! Yeah it's my favorite for sure and I enjoy the challenge of how little traffic runs on it. It makes it oh so satisfying when you capture something exactly as you want it.

    Some real terrain on the Oregon Trunk. Following the Deschuttes River and bordering the Warm Springs Reservation makes this area a good challenge. I hopped this line as a kid and to this day remains in my top 5 most scenic lines.

    nice video!!!! the scenery is breathtaking. almost looks like a train sim with the lighting at the beginning. This is something relaxing to play in the background when you're not really watching the Tv the whole time. something to look at while your reading or something.

    What also amazes me, is although the railroad may travel 32 miles between the Columbia and Beaver Tail, the surface roads are what 75 miles? With at least 10 is washboard gravel roadway! Nice work!

    • @TheRailfanDan
      @TheRailfanDan  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct! It's about 60 miles on the road but that first train from tunnel 2 to Beavertail I was hightailing it pretty quick to make it from one place to the other. Once I arrived at Beavertail it was only 5 minutes later that the baretable train came around that corner.

    Outstanding flying Dan! in August I actually did a bit of railfanning near Chemult on the Oregon Trunk, still pretty but not as scenic as the northern end of the line!

    • @barbaradarnell.3802
      @barbaradarnell.3802 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Oregon Trunk line ended at Bend.The Great Northern built south to Çhemult ,then used the S.P. track to Klamath Falls,then to Bieber California on it's own track.

    You make the most of the early morning light....thinking you must have camped out near the river to catch them so early.
    @27:25 you can see some rocks slide down the hill as the 2nd engine passes and a wisp of dust blowing up the hill a few cars later at the same location.

    • @TheRailfanDan
      @TheRailfanDan  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's all about your physical placement to get the most distance out of your flight. I do a lot of research on maps to figure out the best places to stand to maximize my range capability.

    Wonderful drone flying and editing. The terrain is quite fantastic which required some excellent engineering and expensive construction for a railroad. All we have in N. Illinois are miles and miles of flat cornfields (boring).

    • @TheRailfanDan
      @TheRailfanDan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This canyon one of my all time favorite pieces of railroad and it sounds like you understand why! I'm glad I can bring this to you to enjoy. I definitely try to not take living in the West for granted. Very fortunate to have the terrain that I do to play with.

    • @prsearls
      @prsearls 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I bet the original 4K file is really something to see. The file size reduction and compression needed for a TH-cam video probably diminishes 4K video quality significantly. When I view these at full screen size, the image looses lots of sharpness and detail. I've had still photography as a serious hobby for more than 60 years so I'm very aware of sharpness in the final image. Nevertheless, your videos are among the very best. I especially enjoy your composition of the scene. The DJI's "rock solid" stability and your thoughtful panning produces excellent views. You have a very good talent and skill that produces a product that we certainly enjoy watching .
