I'm no expert, and it sounds obvious, but practise teeping a lot. I recommend doing exercises to develop flexibility and strength in the hip flexors and hamstrings, because it makes easier to perform the teep movement smooth and fast.
Teep the heavy bag for building strength through resistance, and in sparring for application (timing and distance).

Teeps allow circular kicks to land. It's only experiencing it that really makes that obvious. You're rocked back, you're necessarily static for one second as you regain composure, and that's when you get kicked properly.

Just my opinion and over all concept of the teap. The bad part about leaning back is when you lean back before you actually apply the teap (as a push). Because yes although not necessary, there won't be power (thus no distance). This here applies more as a quick and small strike rather than a push. It all works. Just decide how you want apply the teap using or not using a bit of lean. In the demonstration he still had a small lean.

If you lean back you also lose power as you can’t thrust your hips forward. The leaning back naturally pulls that part of your body back. The same thing with round house kicks, don’t lean back too much, stay upright and it will be easier for you to feel when your hips roll over. Picture your knee and shoulder (kicking side) going through your opponent or bag.

I see just about every thai fighter in the ring lean back with the teep, but I'm a certain way, not a way which is being shown purposely to seem off balance and awkward.

Shaolin kempo and karate calls that a front kick and most of our kicks are with the ball of the foot. Its like swinging a hammer.

@@TheNaturalCause front kicks are just kicks came from ifront of your body in a straight line, it's that simple. And most variations of the teep/push kicks go to the front. Don't make things too complicate, especially when it comes to name. The teep is a type of front kick

They're very similar, but I prefer using my heel for front snap kicks to create a heavy impact (due to bone alignment), while teeps are more of a pushing motion with the ball of the foot to create distance or intercept attacks and unbalance the opponent. That being said, teeps can also be used like a stab similar to a front kick.

in my opinion karate front kicks have more of an upward snapping motion, but Muay Thai teeps have a more push down motion
but in this video, the jumping ones he seemed to do more snapping than pushing though. maybe he doesn't want to put too much power and force into his sparring buddy/student? or that's just the way he does it

Fuck yeh I can't bring myself to quit watching. Everyone and their mother knows that if he actually got you with that triple kick combo, even if he only got you in the thigh( if God had forgotten about you on that particular day then he landed one of the three in the shin/calf) the fight is almost guaranteed to be over. And if the opponent happens to not be a thai fighter, then he's not walking for a month...this is Muay Thai, this ain't fucking tae kwon do!
