  • Learn How to make DIY CNC Laser Engraver by using old DVD Writers and very simple materials.
    Parts for Mini Laser Engraver
    - Arduino Nano/UNO (with USB cable)
    - 2x DVD drive stepper mechanism
    - 2x A4988 stepper motor driver modules (or GRBL shield)
    - 250mW Laser with adjustable lens (or above)
    - 12v 2Amps power supply minimum
    - Male and Female Headers
    - 8x small neodymium magnets ( which I have salvaged from DVD lens mechanism)
    - 1x 2pin plug-in screw terminal block connector
    - Zip ties (100mm)
    - Super Glue
    - 6x M3x12 screws
    - 8x M2x5 screws
    - Laser Safety Glasses

    nice project. you also could use a transistor or mosfet instead of the relay, it gives you the option to dim the brightness of your laser so you can make different gradients..

    A laser of that power can cause instant damage your eyes, even looking at the spot that is burning can cause retinal damage. Reflections off a bright surface still have enough power to cause permanent eye damage.

      Why do you use 250mW laswer, i see they use 500mW . What’s the difference between these, and the 250mW is enough for engraving wood?

    Nice video! One question, in which pin of the shield do you connect the short red cable from the relay? The one that goes to the 5v input of the relay. Is not clear in the video, but it seems that you connect it to the 3.3v of the shield, is that correct?

      Yes, 3.3v will be fine for the rely, there are another wring method, using a power regulator and mosft, i can send it to you if you want

      Kady DIY Projects yes. That would be great thanks. I am building one laser engraver taking advantage of my old 3D printer frame and using the same laser you use, a UNO and a CNC Shield. I think that the upside of using a 3D printer are the larger bed and the mechanical capacity for high speeds when moving.

      If you mean the voltage i use 9 V 2 A power supply, if you mean the current, make the motor work for 60 second and touch it, if hot, move g

    I have builded a machine like yours but the laser doesnt burn a lot despite i have regulated it to the minimun point with the lens. Only burns a little, but not like in your video. Im using a 12v 2a. How can I get the laser burns more?? Its a 250 mw laser too. Thanks.

      Use power regulator to feed the laser 5v and the 250mw from the 12 volts

    I build everything as per diagram The only difference is relay is using 3 V but gbrl Every time the relay is Activated comes up with an error any advice?

    I made it with Arduino nano but the step motor gets very hot and starting to burn.
    I tried to align the motion but same issue...

      You could try adjusting the current that goes to the motors. There is a potentiometer in each stepper driver.
