Zach, it is interesting watching you and your Dad interact. He encourages you to give advise and present your ideas. Now you are doing the same thing with Onyx when you and he are working on a project together. You encourage Onyx to give his input on a subject and you don't put him down for what he is thinking. You boost his self-confidence when you encourage him and listen to him. You and Becky are great parents. Blessing to you all.
Onyx takes his hunting to heart, it’s a great way to continue learning about the outdoors. In this day and age people tend to forget about family, I’m truly happy that you and Becky are involved with all of the kids. They are blessed to have you as parents.
“What, were you gonna go catch it”? That was said in the best sarcastic dad voice ever! I laughed my ass off because it sounded just like something I’d say to my two boys!
Culver's in River Falls, Wisconsin used a plastic hunting shack for their second drive thru order window during the pandemic. My guess is they got it from Fleet Farm. His shack reminded me of that.
Been through the wind flipping stands over. Get some T-post and drive them at angles at the base of the 4 legs then either drill holes in the post and screw the legs to them or wire them to the post. May need to put screws in the legs so the wire does not slide. The only other option is mobile home screw anchors. If you get those under the stand it may hold, but best is away and anchor at angles. This gets in the way of mowing.
Hi Zach. I have been following you for sometime now. I have grown fond of your efforts to bring farm safety to forefront in your videos at times. I recently started my own TikTok account and posted a video on safety, filling silos and entering silos with dangerous gases. Unfortunately, today we lost three community members due to silo gases. A father and two sons. I want to say thank you for your efforts to bring safety talk to your videos.
Sad loss, the Amish don't do tik tok or youtube. It is too bad we have elected a government that trys to shut down an Amish farmer selling meat in the name of safety. It would be amazing if the government lead the charge on farm safety and helped get the message out. Zach keep up the good work, absolutely priceless knowledge.
Great fun watching you guys toy with gravity. Saw the Traeger sponsor note at the beginning, Great! My wife got me one about 6 years ago for Father's Day. Loved it since. One of her favorites for me to make, smoked SPAM. Yes. There is a way to cut the SPAM block into connected fingers to have lots of smoked surface area. That and a plate of pancakes with maple syrup - Yumm! A smoked pizza is a treat also. That's after doing all the other stuff - pork beef chicken ribs roasts sausages fruit fish beans - most anything tastes incredible when smoked. Enjoy.
When built our deer stand, we put them in 30" deep holes w/ cement bags unloaded straight into the holes. Ground moisture will cemen t them in well enough, 35 years and 80mph winds and it';s still standing.
DEER STAND, 4 fence post 1 on each corner, baling wire, keeps them standing. I like to drill holes in the posts and shoot 3 inch # 12 screws makes it more solid
1 screw anchor -1 rachet strap, screw the anchor in the ground below the middle of the stand, attach the rachet strap to the bottom center of the stand & the other hook to the top of the anchor tighten up. Stand stays up year after year! Even in high winds, & Maybe not a tor-nader. Some find a 55gal drum and fill with rocks & also attach a rachet to it.
@@RealJeep man those new XL are like 3800$ for a pellet grill !! I can’t say much I spent almost twice that on an offset I got a year ago but I can sell it today for what I have in it.
Good Luck on this year's deer season. Got a little dicey at the end. Onyx was devouring grilled meat like a cannibal invited to a missionary picnic, and the mannequin head was the stuff of nightmares.
Zach that was classic! Loved how you let your son come up with ideas on the deer stand tilting. He's gonna be just like you. Good thing he didn't try to catch it. I was rolling on the floor. 🤣🤣🤣
To fix the oil leak at your tractor engine oil drain plug, plumb your shop vac into the crankcase ventilator to put a vacum on the inside of the engine. You then can pull the drain plug and only lose a few drops of oil while you quickly fix the seal and reinstall the drain plug. That is unless the new emisions prevents that. Also works well to do the vacume trick when changing oil, it lets you get the drain plug completly out without making a mess. After the drain plug is completly removed, just turn off the vacum, and it drains.
When I was in high school, we were having a clean up day at the football field. I was using the weed-eater in some overgrown shrubbery and discovered that bumble bees will also nest in overgrown shrubbery. They will also swarm a weed-eater as long as it is making noise. Even after it runs to the other end of a football field, with its handler getting stung multiple times. It is harder to hit a bumble bee with a weed-eater than it is for a bumble bee to hit a weed-eater handler. I learned a lot that day.
Need to use a A frame to lift your deer stand. A couple of 2x4 ca be used and rig a rooe to middle of stand over A frame and pul up with a tractor. We use to erect new stands like that.
That is something to really be proud of. So many even ur dads age don’t know what a lot of those mean but ur dad has done awesome passing what he learned to u
Onyx is a awesome deer Hunter Zack you raised him right. My boy is the same way. That is gonna be a nice pole barn can’t wait to see it going up. Trees are looking good. Stay safe and and positive.
Jealous of the tree stand! You are a good man by my measure and an even better role model. You are lucky to have Becky, she makes you the man you are! I think you need to talk to Scott Shellady of RFDTV and get on cable TV. Oh yea, being from Virginia, rubbing is racing brother.
You know how to do it let your little man think for himself. It’s the only way he’ll learn to do for himself. Mistakes have taught me so much lol. He seems to have a pretty good head on his shoulders for his age or as we say common sense something many do not have anymore!
4 tposts pound deep and some slick wiretwist up,but put concrete pads under 4x4s. Should have taken a picture of the axis deer heard of 50ty plus at water trough by the house. Bumble bees are mean when I was a kid shredding a field I jumped off a moving tractor because of Bumble bees and looped around and jumped back on before the fence. Bees followed the tractor, guess they gave up after half mile. Good Ole days on a 730
to keep those hunting stands upright we use one of those concrete blocks used for erosion control, approx 4' long 2' thick and 2' to 3' hi we hang it from the center of the floor and lift it in the air just a touch with a heavy duty ratchet strap
No dig against Traeger, but I have issue with using wood pellets for cooking food over. Depending on manufacturer, the pellets can consist of recycled wood pallets, to soft wood that is ground and mixed with hardwood. At one time, additional glue was added to keep the pellet together. I used a pellet stove for accessory heat for close to 15 years, and noticed that the last few years the quality of the pellets decreased as the pellet wasn't as much "hardwood" as earlier years.
Next time on those chops. Brine for about 4 hours. 2 qts cold water, 1/4 cup kosher salt, 1/8 cup brown sugar. Stir it up and throw them in. After 4 hours, rinse and rub with your preferred seasoning. Smoke at 225 until IT of 140. Then a nice hot sear on each side to finish them off.
Menards sells a rebar sized tent stake pocket you mount to a 4x4. I lag screw them to the legs and then use the machine to push the big stakes down, keeps it legs down in the wind and storms...mostly.
I can't tell you all the adventures I have had moving tower stands with a tractor and forks, always fun!! Go drive him some stakes in the ground and camp them to each leg so it does not fall again.
You need to be prepared to lift something top heavy like that. I like straps. @27’ 3333 lb working load, 10k breaking @$10. Couple 800 lb working load @15’ @$4. (They all have doubled in price) Reach over from base, hook as high as possible. Lift, as backing up.
even though the stand had a hole in the bottom, amazin how much water it had in it! No wonder stuff doesnt last. Would love a traeger.. keep fighting the impulse purchase temptation.
put long ground anchors on every leg of that deer stand. wont go anywhere til you decide to move it again. or screw the legs onto the pallet so it'll be easy to move it around? then throw some sand bags on top of the pallet lol

My son got me a Traeger Pro-34, the front shelf and the cover for Father's day 3 years ago. I've cooked so mu with it that during the summer we don't use the stove in the house.
Get some “Tie Down” ¾” Soil Anchor with (1) 4″ Helix and (1) 6″ helix- 36″ Length, or “Tie Down” Shed Anchor Kit- 30″ Length . They tie trailer homes down with these. Then either use cable or rachet straps to go from the tiedown to the deer stand. One on each corner and that will never ever come down again.
Try chicken wings coated in a seasoning called yard bird. Smoke at 250 for about 1.5-2 hrs until down. Turn every 30-45 minutes. Best tasting chicken you’ve every had.
Yet another video in the series "Awesome dad being awesome...also with some farming and grilling." Who'd have thought a Millennial could do it all, but somehow, you manage. Thanks for the content. Especially Peter Griffin. Nice touch.

Time to do a "cognac butter injected" Bison Tenderloin. Have fun with the new grill! Oh and by the way - I once had a student ask what to do if your parents are throwing rocks and poking yellow jackets/hornet/bumblebee nest during a beekeeping presentation. My reply was to grab your phone and video the results and post it online - I see the results are about what I expected in your example. Very glad you did not react to the sting and were able to enjoy your tasty meal.
Such a Millennial with his fancy gas grill that sends alerts to your phone. This Gen-Xer just uses Oak Lump Charcoal, in a Weber Grill like a cave man. :p
