I never faulted your tuning skills, Just your speed reading ones. You'd be lucky to get this car over 35mph. Have fun with your incredibly rare HPI Trophy 3.5!
@SUPERFORMIAN A 6 tank guide will include the first tank being idle mate. My engine starts very easily. When you break in as many engines per month as I do you won't take half as much care with breaking them in :D
Wouldn't it be "healthier" for the engine to drag out the break-in process for a few more tanks? I was reading a 6 tank guide, turned into 7 because I realised the first tank must be idle. But my NitroStar is running pretty well. Also, you should be able to start it with the throttle trim centered. If that doesn't happen, replace your glow plug with a Fox Manufacturing Hot Glow Plug. That's what I did, combined it with my new lock-in ignitor and starts very easily. Prime and start.
Hi! In this video I could not see you priming the engine before every tank. You only primed it on the 1 and the 2 tank, and not on the 3 and the 4th. Aren't you supposed to prime the engine before every tank?
@Bullit163 only if you let it run completely out of fuel :) I always stop the engine before it runs totally out, so it never needs priming before next tank.
@TheDirectReview leave it on idle as long as the temp stays at 210 or so. Don't let it rise above it, if it does then let it cool off for 5 mins n carry on :)
I've never felt the need, I keep buggies for their purpose (off road bashing). I should imagine they would perform like an on road car with on road tires would, increased handling and more speed
@richardr19721 hmm Well engine is starting backwards for some reason. Might sound silly, but is the pull start mounted the correct way? You might have to get this checked out by a hobby shop cause it is gonna be pretty hard to sort this one over the internet hehe
Hi m8 I've just bought this car and sounds silly but can work out how to get the aeriel to fit s the antena is to short to fit through the cut out at the back of the body any idea cheers ps. Good video
You don't even need a temp gun a easy way put a bit of spit on top of engine making sure it doesn't go through and if it sizzles straight away it is over hundred and you should cut it out
Hi mate Got the same trophy and got a question, as you haven't show braking in the first tank , my first tank was an absolute painful experience constantly had to start it buck up I mean every 30 sec +\- , as it was brand new and straight from the box I haven't touched any of the adjustments screws as per manual , is that normal with the first tank ?
Hi, which fuel do you recommend me for this buggy 15% or 20% fuel ?. I heard that with a 20% fuel the motor lasts less (in a long time) than with a 15% ? is this correct ??..thanks. I'm new in RC cars
Julio Velasco the more nitro, the more speed and you shoal only use higher nitro for bigger engines and more performance, a cars engine will last just as long with 20% and 15%
I'm looking at getting a HPI trophy, these videos are excellent! good work. one question, the temperature gun, did you purchase that or did it come with the car?
Looking at getting the k4.6 for this buggy. Any other upgrades you recommend that would handle this engine on the trophy 3.5? Thanks. Love your videos, been helpful for getting back into this sport after about 14 years.
This buggy is well made, I reckon it'd take the bigger engine without upgrades. I think the gears would handle it fine! Might need to change the engine mounts, though.
Jthornley12@ when I put my car on the ground it was fine no revving at all but, it's up to the I went to had 6 comebacks on smashed engines due putting it on blocks:/
When you first get an RC you can't just go out with it there's a small break in process to break it in and the manual should tell you how to do that because if you go and don't do a break in you could break it in the long run
It seems you did some mistakes, apparently you didn't had any fuel in the engine to start pulling the cord. Make sure you have it before you put the lighter, otherwise you just burning the glow
Also you are not suppose to drive the car on your second deposit, according to the manual that only happens on your third deposit, and honestly it should not happen if your car is not tuned, meaning that if your wheels are spinning you shouldn't put it on the floor.
I'd go the Thunder Tiger. Was never impressed with this buggy, it sent itself off on a rampage after 2.5 litres through the engine due to a faulty switch from HPI.
Your head should never be boiling hot so you can't touch, it should be cool you pit it on blocks and leave it running for 2mins and it will be red hot!
I never faulted your tuning skills, Just your speed reading ones. You'd be lucky to get this car over 35mph. Have fun with your incredibly rare HPI Trophy 3.5!
a friend upgraded his HPI all front parts using kyosho MP9 ..it is awesome!
@SUPERFORMIAN A 6 tank guide will include the first tank being idle mate. My engine starts very easily. When you break in as many engines per month as I do you won't take half as much care with breaking them in :D
@Tyler3621 If your engine revs and it is on the ground, it will strip gears. never have wheels on the ground during break in.
@Lee92072 You'll probably have to retune it mate. best way is to run it and see how it goes.

it's a good set up parts,
the shock clips added a little height on ride
I loved my trophy 3.5 :)
@Bullit163 only if you let it run completely out of fuel :) I always stop the engine before it runs totally out, so it never needs priming before next tank.
@savvaspap98 still a good choice mate

@Brutalcoreification Thanks :) more are coming
Should I put antenna wire through tube,or just keep it under body....I like not seeing it if it still gets good signal
@richardr19721 Good luck with getting it sorted ;) no worries
Glad it helped, cheers
thanks for sharing us these information. its very helpful. and u explaned very well.
No problem Thanks for your comments :)
Very well spoken... what a beautiful buggy, Thanks for sharing : )
You can also prime it by blowing down the pipe coming of your exaust and you want to unflood it after only want vapours in there!!!
do you like the pull start on all your cars i use my roto start but i have two new pull starts never tryed pull start is it cool or what
im gonna do excactly what you did here! thanks for a good ¨how to¨ video!
Cheers from Norway
Hpi makes a very nice looking car, btw very informative vid enjoyed it!
If they fit then yes of course :)
@Laceyktm well thanks :) I'll take not of it n try it sometime
That might be your break in, but this is mine :) most popular method.
@richardr19721 hmm Well engine is starting backwards for some reason. Might sound silly, but is the pull start mounted the correct way? You might have to get this checked out by a hobby shop cause it is gonna be pretty hard to sort this one over the internet hehe

what is better this buggy or the Thunder Tiger ep4 s3? both the same price but I don't know which one to go for.
@MrAm98 sure is :)
You don't even need a temp gun a easy way put a bit of spit on top of engine making sure it doesn't go through and if it sizzles straight away it is over hundred and you should cut it out
Pro Gatesy 1 Over 100 is fine....even 150 is ok. It's when you start going over 160 is when you should let it cool off.
I got for Xmas this year when you prime it open the throttle fully
sure did.
@Kill3rAnth It's a good car : ) more videos coming
@jthornley12 does this brake in procedure apply to any nitro rc vechiles or is it different for each one??:L
you should do more videos in 2015?
nice car collection mate :D
am planning on getting one i really like it or a gas baja
Hi mate
Got the same trophy and got a question, as you haven't show braking in the first tank , my first tank was an absolute painful experience constantly had to start it buck up I mean every 30 sec +\- , as it was brand new and straight from the box I haven't touched any of the adjustments screws as per manual , is that normal with the first tank ?
@jthornley12 Do this brake in procedure apply to any car/buggy??:D
i have a redcat shockwave ,it has a vx 16 engine ..can i replace it with a 3.5cc engine ? its now on 2.76cc
Getting back into this sport. Just got the HPI 3.5 what are some good upgrades far as servo's go and engines go? And what would you recommend?
Savox sc1268TG are good servos
hey just wondering have you ever put on-road nitro rc tires on a truggy or buggy? if so how did they perform?
hey can i break in the engine like u do with WR8 3.0 Ford Fiesta Rally?
is tank one just for letting it warm up
@TheDirectReview Yep :) no driving on the first tank
Is the video in fast forward?!? Or does everything move very quickly in the background
@Laceyktm Nops never tried it :) always used this one
Can you upgrade this car with hotbodies parts?
And btw how is breaking in engines time consuming?i did my redcat monsoon xtr in 30 mins or less!
Hey man... any vids with a Traxxas Jato?
very nice car and good tutorial
@barroomchampion afraid not :) I don't deal with Traxxas
Break in is break in :D same for all Nitro engines
and btw! is it important to adjust how much air it gets as you tune it?
where you get all your cars from
@joel123lol HPI claims it to be yes. haven't tested it yet though.
@Tyler3621 Sorry didn't make sense, the shop I went to had 6 comebacks
I have a shity Chinese buggy and that thing starts every 3rd pull ... so why does the hpi nitro engine take longer
Hi, which fuel do you recommend me for this buggy 15% or 20% fuel ?. I heard that with a 20% fuel the motor lasts less (in a long time) than with a 15% ? is this correct ??..thanks. I'm new in RC cars

@richardr19721 hehe that's interesting :D does your Gearbox have reverse gear or is this engine starting in reverse? :)
I'm looking at getting a HPI trophy, these videos are excellent! good work.
one question, the temperature gun, did you purchase that or did it come with the car?
its something you will need to buy. sorry if you already had got an answer
This helps pretty well, thanks
Sure :)

JT12's R/C Videos ok cool man. Thanks haven't really found a lot of videos with this buggy. But found your page and it's been helping a lot.
Where did u buy it
Whay your air filter cap is on ??
What present gas do you us?
How many speed transmittions does a hpi trophy truggy 4.6 have??
Dan Williams it's a 3.5 and it has 3 speeds
How did you get sponsored?
How many nitro rcs do you own ?
No, go HSP kingliness
what temperature does the engine needs to be.. before driving it? in good weather & cold weather
Nitro is the Way 200-230 degrees Fahrenheit
Randomthing1222 Thank you.. keep up the good work =)
nice tutorial. subbed!
@THEGAMERHOLIC2011 Thanks :D
I just got my 3.5 Trophy in the mail today and I can't even get it to idle at a constant rpm to break it in.
Check my tuning videos. Stick with it, no nitro engine runs faultless at the beginning when they're new :)
Tell me about it. I got the 4.6 today and when trying to break it in it does exactly as you describe. How did you fix it?
@deleteknop Only free to review
Uploading to YT :)
what is the many of this car ??
Whats the maximal speed?
Can you tell me the factory carb settings for this car and engine
They're in your manual or online
That's The thing i got this thing for free and i am trying to get it running
were do u live England ? or what
Jthornley12@ when I put my car on the ground it was fine no revving at all but, it's up to the I went to had 6 comebacks on smashed engines due putting it on blocks:/

I cant get my buggy started to save my life. The engine might have been destroyed by a runaway. Any recommendations for an engine swap?
I replaced it with an ARNE .21 engine, seemed to work pretty well
Awesome! Thank you for the response
hi how many speed transmission has the trophy 3.5 buggy?
none
Tj Belekoks ur an idiot if it has none it wouldn't move at all
that car is nice i love hpi
Thanks for watching :)
nice video
@Kill3rAnth Go for it :D this is one good buggy. Don't spend loads on HPI baja. Take a look at the yama buggy. Promo is on my channel
You can't of done it properly then. To start with, a 5 minute cool down between each tank is recommended. That's 25 minutes by itself.
I'd go the Thunder Tiger. Was never impressed with this buggy, it sent itself off on a rampage after 2.5 litres through the engine due to a faulty switch from HPI.
It's a pretty sluggish buggy really. 35mph at a sqeeeeze :)
Why is it sitting so low? ?
can you free get cars?
Haha have it your way if you like :) J
@xZoMbIeSx27 south Of UK :)
Your head should never be boiling hot so you can't touch, it should be cool you pit it on blocks and leave it running for 2mins and it will be red hot!
alright nevermind you noticed
Check Nitrotek for Great Rc models :) reviewed loads of those models n never been let down
