Break in sucks, and yes it’s boring, but it will be totally worth it once it’s done. As far as removing the glow plug goes, you should get a couple of cans of nitro clean. Flip over the buggy, and spray right on the glow plug. Once it’s clean you’re good to remove it. Your engine was a little fat before you started leaning the low speed needle. Fat for break in is ok, you don’t really need to start dialing in the needles until after break in. It’s not about performance at this point it’s about making sure it has plenty of fuel and oil. After break in is over that’s when you start dialing in the needles for performance. Always start with the high speed needle, and only adjust the low speed when needed. Just remember, it doesn’t have to be perfect. Trying to be perfect takes away from the fun. If it idles good, and runs good with decent temps, just send it. When you check engine temps check it at the glow plug. Also, make sure and get some bones brew fuel. You’ll get it and have some fun. Nitro gang!🔥💨🤘

You know I'm a big fan of your channel and I really like your objective views on rc cars a big thumbs up mate. But this is something totally different, stepping out of your normal comfort zone like this is just awesome mate, this way of learning as you go, is just a major help for so many people that want to try out nitro for the first time. I've been driving nitro for many years, and seen a lot of videos on how to...
So I've been waiting for a "first time" Nitro video from you, because I really like your systematic approach.
    👍👌

Will be tough to give opinions becuase everyone has their own....but typically you adjust the high speed first, then the low....low speed is just for throttle response down low, from the video, the low was lean,(the put put sound)richen it back up and just start leaning the high....i wish i was there to tune it with you

thanks for the tip, I did another break-in run today and started messing with the high speed idle and can definitely see why people adjust that more since it controls overall fuel/air mixture into the carb and will downstream to the low speed needle.

Nice video but towards the end she was running LEAN , richen up the low end a tad bit .

Just like checking your bolts, check your needle settings before ever running an RTR! Turn the needles, clockwise, until they just stop - dont force it. Then turn them out to the recommended settings. Initially, you will probably have to run the idle a bit high to get it started. After about 5 mins on your initial run, bring it in and pinch the fuel line to the motor. It will slowly rev and then die after about 6-7 seconds. If it takes longer than that, lean out the LSN, if it dies right away, richen the LSN. Now, time to adjust the HSN. Go out and run the car. Lean the HSN about 1-2 hours after every tank. The goal is to get it so that you notice a plume of smoke coming from the motor and temps are in the 230-270 degree range. This will probably take about 7-8 tanks depending on the motor and you will likely need to adjust your idle during this time (lower it). Do the pinch test again and if everything is good, leave the LSN. Unless you race, leave the LSN where it is, it is vital that your car get enough fuel to keep it lubricated. Never take tuning advice from a serious racer, lol, they are worried about perfornance, not longevity. When in doubt, stick with what the manual tells you. The manufacturer is always conservative but that's not a bad thing. Sorry about the long winded answer, nitro is a steep learning curve.

The only time you need to lean the low speed needle is when your bogging on take off. To much and you'll have over heating issues. Especially when you start tuning for top end speed. Towards the end it's gurgling to much. Starving for fuel, your high speed needle is much to lean.

The HPI TH-cam channel has a video called "HPI Big Block Getting Started Guide" that might also be useful. JQ's vids are great though.

I use a can of compressed air from staples or your closest office supplie store to blow out the top of the motor before I remove the glow plug
Also the hpi nitro engine are a pain to adjust

Definitely too lean at the end.

When adjusting there should be smoke coming out of the engine if not the engine will not live long but a little smoke is great also every time you take it out you will have to adjust the engine for all weather conditions

Tuning the low speed 1st you will lock up the engine, only tune the HSN 1st once you have that done tune the low speed to match its in the manual :)

Great to see you trying out something new, would you be interested in doing a rewiew on the hpi Vorza flux and maybe doing some comparisons between the two? :)

I'm not sure, but doesn't sound it got that proper go. I always like to see some smoke during full throttle so its not to lean

Glad to see the nitro update...If you can preheat the head to 200 deg f prior to starting during break-in (heat gun or head heater), and keep temps between 210-240 while still running slightly rich, the engine should bed in nicely. Position piston at bdc and cool completely between tanks. The initial heat cycling is critical to keeping good compression and pinch for the life of the engine.
