  • the Rovan 360 dual ring has the potential to be a fantastic budget big bore for your fifth scale rig. it just needs a little bit of help first!

    always a good idea to check the squish with lead solder before & after deleting the base gasket, ideally you want about .020" min of clearance to be safe.

    • @BlueSmokeRC
      @BlueSmokeRC  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Correct! I failed to get that part on camera but my squish was .45mm. these engines are notorious for being a bit sloppy squish wise.

    Hello, fantastic video, thank you. I have exact same engine as yours, I have already dismantle Baja car for proper cleaning due to wet mud all over, it's brand new, use three tanks already. . So you saying that you will create more horsepower by removing one piston ring. That's means more speed. How much more MPH speed would you say? Thanks

    • @BlueSmokeRC
      @BlueSmokeRC  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's hard to say how much RPM you would gain but the biggest power increase will be from the gasket delete.

    How did the port turn out.. worst engines ever... Timing is so far out .. great vid did you get rid of the Freeport 👍

      Short answer: no, yes, yes, and thank you! I couldn't help myself and dug into it with a Dremel to try get some decent power out of it. Two pistons and one pair of rings later I completely gave up on the 36. They're not a good engine... But they do have a good bottom end! As we speak I have a ported 30⁰north 38cc top end waiting for me at the post office.

    I should do this wit a brand new engine???

    • @BlueSmokeRC
      @BlueSmokeRC  13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It doesn't have to be but it's a lot less messy if it is. Check you squish clearance before you take anything apart and it should be right about 0.5mm. this engine in particular was closer to 1.5mm before I tore it down. Up to a point, the tighter the squish the more compression you'll have. More compression gives you more horsepower. In an upcoming video I will be rebuilding this engine as a fully ported reed valve 38cc.

    No test video?

    • @BlueSmokeRC
      @BlueSmokeRC  หลายเดือนก่อน

      No unfortunately. I did run it after doing the gasket delete and had noticeably better performance but didn't get it on video. The day after I opened the engine back up to do some porting on the transfer ports and ran into the limitations of the head design.

      @@BlueSmokeRC when You remove the gasket, You just simply put gasket sealant there right?

    • @BlueSmokeRC
      @BlueSmokeRC  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Exactly! Thin coat of sealant, tighten the head bolts until they are just snug, then after 24hrs torque them down to spec.

    Is this the same concept for the rovan 45 dual ring?

    • @BlueSmokeRC
      @BlueSmokeRC  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I can't comment on the 45 since I've never actually run one before. It might help a little bit but depending on your piston clearance the gasket delete might help. Make sure you measure the squish clearance first before you do it though.

    • @BlueSmokeRC
      @BlueSmokeRC  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      If you're looking for more power out of your 45 I know a reputable engine builder that can turn it into a Reed valve engine. I can probably get you in touch with him.

      @@BlueSmokeRC well I have a unique application. I have a mini chopper bike that came with a 34cc many years ago, but I am looking to get the 45cc 4 bolt from Fearless RC. I'm rebuilding the bike for my son to rid, the kid already has a Yamaha PW50 that I removed the exhaust restrictor from, so he's used to speed.

    • @BlueSmokeRC
      @BlueSmokeRC  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      If you haven't ordered it yet, don't! In the 5th scale community the Rovan 45 is commonly know as a boat anchor. If they're still in stock the 30⁰n 38cc is a much better option. Be warned though the QC on the heads of those engines can be a little rough but nothing a quick port job with a Dremel and a carbide burr can't clean up. Stay tuned because I'm actually going to be putting a 38 top end on this very engine some time next month.
