ok first things first. it was amazing getting to go to the Terra Kaffe headquarters to hang out with the CEO and his Team. super great people and they are really trying to just make the best products out there. second this was a preproduction unit so obviously things can change but I think its mostly complete. thirdly this machine is awesome I'm not a regular user of super automatics but this was truly a nice machine with so many thoughtful design elements I'm very shocked. lastly this thing has some revolutionary features like adjusting the grind setting automatically no physical input required and the drip coffee option is also quite impressive and did I mention this grinder is a grind by weight seriously nice touches for coffee nerds like myself.

One issue with the TK-01 is the accumulation of grounds inside the machine. On your final review it would be good to hear how the TK-02 compares to TK-01 in that area. It's the key downside on the TK-01.
Agree, yes please! I would love to know about the coffee grounds and how to best keep it clean. I do not enjoy mold growing if you don't clean out the grounds often enough.

I love my TK01. BUT Please Beware, guys!!!!! I have had TK-01 for 2 years now. Currently sitting on my countertop broken down. The first time it broke down after 7 months of daily use. I do take care of proper maintenance. They serviced it and sent it back the service process took a little over a month. At that time I subscribed for Mulberry coverage as suggested by the TerraKafe service center folks. This year when it broke down again I started the repair process. It's been more than a month and my claim has not been approved yet. God knows when will the machine be repaired. It is highly frustrating.

Can this make a caraffe or 'pot' of drip coffee? Like more than just a one cup drip? How much is dispensed in that option if it does do it? thx.
Do you by chance know if there is a separate container for decaf coffee for any weirdos I have visit? I pre-ordered mine a couple months back, I'm SUPER excited... even with the delay!

Does the machine know there is a cup there when you start a cup from your app?
That’s a great question. I could see myself starting a cup from bed only to come out and see it all over my floor
I have had the TK-01 for 2 years and brewed over 1000 cups of coffee with it. Obviously a satisfied customer. TK-02 appears to take it up several notches. They listened to customer suggestions. The water reservoir is much easier to get to. If there are no doors on the sides how do you get to the automated brew unit to rinse it off and get out rogue coffee grounds from the inside the unit ? If the door is on the back this would be more cumbersome to get to than the current right side door.. With any of these automated machines you need to be diligent on weekly maintenance if you want it to last for several years. I like the shut down and wake up feature, currently not available on the TK-01. The phone app is nice but in my view unnecessary. If you are going to make a cappuccino in the morning I would not leave milk out all night. Pressing a button on the machine doesn't get much easier. For the true espresso lovers the automated units fall a bit short because the amount of coffee ground is less than on a manual machine. For me the time savings is a clear advantage and you get a near barista level of coffee.. You will ditch you old coffee maker. A 2 pound bag of beans yields at least 100 cups, making the cost about 15 cents a cup. No plastic waste going to landfills..
The brew unit is no longer accessible. This does make me nervous but we will see how it goes
That is a concern. Coffee beans are organic material . The grinding and compression process is not 100% efficient. I have been cleaning the brew unit ( cold water rinse) and vacuuming out coffee grounds weekly from the beginning. Seems intuitive to be able to perform basic cleaning functions.

Did you get a feel for clean up and maintenance?
The TK-01 seems to have a really smart feature for cleaning the milk tube where you can connect it directly to the drip tray and run hot water through it. What is the solution for cleaning the milk tubing on this machine? Are we left to clean it by hand after every milk drink now? If so that feels like a big step backwards with regards to convenience.
It’s basically the same setup for cleaning they have the separate tube and everything

Does anyone have this? How is it to clean the milk system? I have a Jura but have never used the milk function bc I’m scared to clean it.
this has not come out quite yet its very close to having its first delivery though. ill have a full review soon for that. im also not a huge fan of keeping it off limits
How big of a cup of coffee can you make?
Also is it worth waiting for? Or just getting the TK 1 or a Phillips 3200?
That’s a hard question to answer since I really only got first impressions with it. Its very nice but I think you’d be happy with a tk01 or delonghi as well if your really wanting something.
what abiut the durability of this product? Repair??...
I mean it’s been out for a month hard to say. But Terra Kaffe has been good about repairs for me in the past

Do you have an opinion on how it compares to machines like the Phillips 5400 and Delonghi Magnifica Evo? Curious if it's worth waiting until the fall for this or if others offer the same thing
That’s a great question I would say in terms of looks this is definitely nicer but I didn’t get enough time to say that the espresso is leaps above. It was good though

Yeah it was a reasonable temp. It’s hard for me to judge without doing more technical tests

These superautos usually are not great at espresso due to the smaller burr grinder and the big challenge on coffee particle size. Curious on the ability to be great across a line of espresso
Most super automatics aren’t as good mostly because they all use pressurized filter baskets instead of more standard non pressurized filter baskets due to the inability of the grinders and generally that people buying a machine like this don’t want to take the time to learn all the specifics
What is the size difference between the TK-1 vs the TK-2? is it taller? Wider? Etc
Tk02 17.5” (D) x 10.4” (W) x 14.3” (H)
Tk01 17.3” (D) x 10.6” (W) x 14” (H)
So super similar just different look and you don’t need to access anything from the sides just the front
Could anyone tell me if they have tried a Jura and if this compares?
I had a jura for a long time they definitely compare I’d say the espresso is actually a touch better on this but I haven’t used a newer jura so my opinion might not be the best
Are there size options for the drip coffee? Like if I wanted to fill a 12 or 16oz to go cup?
Sure are you can customize it to basically any size you want
@@JoeyVaracalli thanks! I my husbands likes to fill a 16oz to go cup. So need to make sure it can do that without him having to make multiple cups
One consideration is since this machine (and all superautomatics) have a maximum grounds capacity, pushing more water through doesn't necessarily mean you will retain the full flavor intended or desired. Currently with the TK-01 I have max grounds and push 8 oz of water through on the Americano setting. When I'm leaving the house and want a to go coffee I do an Americano X2. I don't think we will ever get away from that unless someone makes a machine with a much larger "puck size" capacity. @@cmf6628
How is the grinder adjusted?😊
Through the app or the interface on the screen and it adjusts based on the drink you are making automatically
Just purchase the TK 01 and i love expresso's, but i noticed that in my coffee waste I was not getting the puck like waste like you showed in your prior video. What A'm I doing wrong.? My coffee waste is coming out like mud and my expresso don't taste very good.
How many shots have you run through it and have you set your dose to the highest setting and the grind to the finest setting

@@JoeyVaracalli Sounds good. I’ve been very skeptical of this machine based on what I heard about TK-01. And also, that drip coffee did not resemble drip coffee. I’m all about crema and even coffee “foam”, but it’s a bit odd that they say it’s true drip coffee and it comes out looking like a mix of coffee and espresso.
You are correct. I just got mine and the drip coffee still uses pressure, albeit a small amount which creates a small layer of crema. It doesn't taste like traditional deep coffee at all. I think it's a gimmick and will probably return mine. Also, the milk comes out lukewarm.
Hi Joe, what do you think about adding a DF64 with SSP multipurpose burrs? do you have issues related to get choky the grinder? the declumper issues are something huge? how do you handle those issues? some reviews told that it has a short range for espresso, is that the case? thanks for your content I saw your videos since my very beginning into the coffee world

@@arielmejia9680 yeah so I have the ssp high uniformity on and they work great I have had no issues. As far as the multipurpose go I would say it’s totally worth trying but I have had no experience with them. Do you currently have the df64?

Hey thanks nick I totally agree. This was shot on site at the Terra kaffe headquarters. My camera guy didn’t have his usual equipment and we had to rush a-little bit to get this video made. On my full review I’ll make sure we don’t have any of these shaky and less then perfect shots ;)

It’s definitely smaller than the tk01 but the dimensions are 17.5” (D) x 10.4” (W) x 14.3h

My TK1 broke after less than 2 years
Thats not uncommon it seems.
Mine is older and has no issues. We have one at the office too - no issues.
DO NOT BUY ONE OF THESE.
Our TK-01 was a piece of junk from day one..
It started tripping the circuit breaker when it was barely 6 months old. I unscrewed the rear panel and it was wet from some of the little hoses (made in china)
One can of electrical contact cleaner and one can of clean compressed air fixed this although never found the leak. 2 months later, same thing except not wet. Just tripping the breaker no matter where it’s plugged into.The milk frothing stopped working at 3 months.
They should be in sold in Walmarts for not more than $179. They are barely worth that.
This is the tk02 which is a diffrent product also you should callterra kaffe they have great customer support
