  • Terra kaffe tk-01 super automatic espresso machine review - the new champ
    this machine has a ton to offer. i think this is my new favorite super automatic espresso machine especially for the price. there are things i think they can improve such as allowing higher doses for double shots and make the grinder better along with other things i lay out clearly in the video but i think this is a really great machine for the money.

      It is identical to the unit used by Moriondo coffee subscription service, also out of NY. We used their commercial unit (has a waste container/shelf that sits underneath giving a much larger waste storage) but otherwise the same. Used it for 2 years, no issues. Needs to be cleaned regularly with high use (every 2 weeks for approx 400 servings per month for the moriondo unit that looks the same).

    I ditched the Nespresso (which I loved!) and got this back in December. It has been working out great. Didn't have to keep on buying pods every 2-3 months and saved a lot of money so far (over $200 savings in 3 months). I bought the 'Lavazza Espresso Italiano Whole Bean Coffee Blend, Medium Roast, 2.2 Pound Bag' at Costco to save even more money. Highly recommend if you/your family drink a lot of coffee.

      Yes lava a is a great main stay. I always recommend this amzn.to/3cZpdWI lavazza “ super crema “to first time espresso drinkers especially if they are dialing in and just as a good reasonably priced coffee to have on hand. Anyway you look at it you are getting better coffee and saving money in comparison to the nespresso

      I'm curious, how many shots do you get per pound of coffee on average? I just talked to TK Support and they said I could get maybe 28-30 shots. That sounds a bit low to me.

      Have 2 Nesspresso Pixies. Love them but the cost of the pods @ 300 bucks a month is out of control! Bought this for Christmas for Hubby. I believe the savings is going to win him over and obviously the taste of the coffee!

    The water tank misalignment I found was actually due to the filter in the tank. If it's not perfectly sealed it introduces air into the line and tricks the sensor into thinking the tank is loose.

      @@JoeyVaracalli Second day of ownership. Very good machine. It makes good espresso you can adjust as you mentioned but its not going to be exactly 12 grams of grounds. Cleaning is easy. The water tank at first does tend to not be aligned but once you get a hang of it, its easy to put in. My recommendation would be to sign up for a credit card that has a special signup offer like spend $500 and get $200 back and with code LASTSHOT you get $75 off and adding the extended warranty ($145) the total cost for the machine with 4 year warranty is $645 after getting $200 back from your credit card company.

    I would highly recommend against dumping money on a Terra Kaffe - my wife purchased one brand new approximately 3 months ago. As of 2 months ago it was starting to act up and wouldn’t finish brewing at random times. As of two weeks ago the machine started powering off/on by itself and as of this afternoon the machine quit working altogether - every so often I can plug the machine back in and it will try to “start up” but eventually powers back off after a few seconds. Absolute waste of $800…

    Hi Joe. I have been using the Breville Barista Express for a few years and really like the lattes that I make. However, the pump broke and I am now looking for a new machine. Every morning I usually make 2 16-ounce double shot lattes (for my wife and me) and it probably takes me about 20 minutes. I like the idea of the Terra Kaffe, where I can hit a button and it does everything. Here are my 2 questions: 1. Is the taste of the double shot okay, or is it not very good compared to the Breville? 2. Is it possible to make a 16-ounce latte or would I have to run 2 cycles?

    • @JoeyVaracalli
      @JoeyVaracalli  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My recommendation is if you took the time and learned how to dial in espresso using a non pressurized basket then the coffee quality on your breville will be much better then the Terra kaffe. If you have only been using the pressurized filter basket then yes the Terra caffè will get you close but it won’t have as good of steamed milk.
      Q2. You can’t program it to pull two shots you would need to hit espresso then hit latte
      Overall if you learned barista skills I would stick with a semi automatic just get a faster grinder like the libra or sette 270 and a faster machine like the bambino or the gaggia classic pro and if you want to splurge go with the lelit marra or quick mill silvano

    Joe, based on your reviews I just purchased the Terra Kaffe. I should receive in week or so. What is your recommendation of the best bean to buy? We like our coffee pretty strong. Also, what type of water would you recommend running through the Terra Kaffe? Also, any other advice, tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated.

    • @JoeyVaracalli
      @JoeyVaracalli  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well fresh roasted coffee is the most important thing then I would say try to avoid oily beans as best you can because it will gunk you the grinder. In terms of water I wouldn’t worry to much I’d just say if you have very hard water then maybe get distilled or use reverse osmosis water then add third wave water tablets (over kill in my opinion) but it’s the best you can do in terms of water for coffee. Also in terms of advice the only thing I haven’t mentioned in TH-cam is some people like the lattes extra hot so just make sure you have your brew temps up and maybe pre heat your milk a bit before steaming if you are in the category of hot hot hot 🥵 latte drinkers.

    Hey man, thanks for the review. I was gifted one of these for my wedding and was really excited. Excitement lasted all of maybe 24 hours because I also started having issues with the water tank alignment. Did you ever find a viable solution for this? I have tried restarting the machine, I have tried refitting the filter, I have tried running hot water before espresso (the hot water works even if the espresso doesn't). Honestly this thing feels over-engineered with too much attention paid to how it looks and not enough to how it works. Drives me crazy that the water tank is basically an open-top bowl that sloshes around as you click the tank into place, could have easily made a cover for it or made it self-contained with a hatch. Above all, it's infuriating that the water tank misalignment notice comes AFTER YOU GRIND THE BEANS. Maybe in a functioning machine where the tank is truly out of alignment correcting the position of the tank would allow the brew process to continue-- in my case, I re-align the tank, hit the check mark, and it sends me back to the main menu. I've brewed about half a bag of dry beans just to get one functioning, splattery, watery espresso. I'll see if I can get some info from the company, hoping there is an easy fix, otherwise this is not how I plan to spend my mornings in the future lol.

    • @JoeyVaracalli
      @JoeyVaracalli  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I still cannot believe this is an issue. I will say my review of this unit and company has gone down a bit because of this issue and the negligent change to the website recently made.
      What I will say is they have very very good customer support. Give them a call they are generally pretty quick to help. I know they have a mode they can unlock for u to do an alignment it doesn’t always fix the issue but it’s worth a try

    So I've been meaning to get this because it looks like a more grab and go coffee (less time to prep and clean) than Breville Barista Touch for example. I am a heavy coffee drinker but never so technical with it (g/oz, steam, temp) all that.. as long as it taste good to me then im fine.. My questions are:
    1. Would you prefer this over breville barista touch? I I just thought you have more control on that one, however, it will take so much more prep time and clean up after instead of this?
    2. Even if it's not perfect, could you still say that the coffee made and balance of all the technicalities is still at par with your daily coffee? Is that something you can maybe program so you get the same taste every time you make it?
    3. Is it worth the buck?
    I guess this is a question to any who owns it :)
    Thanks! Greatly appreciate your response.

    • @JoeyVaracalli
      @JoeyVaracalli  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If your asking me which on I would personally go with then the answer is the barista touch. But you have to understand I use a manual lever machine and a lelit Bianca normally so maybe what I would buy isn’t the best answer for you. Macchiato is not an option on this machine. Also if you look up what a true macchiato is it’s a double shot of espresso with just a spoon full of very dry whipped milk similar to the foam on top of a cappuccino. Although I understand that Starbucks has ruined this and the true macchiato has kind of disappeared in America because of this. Also I can agree with you that it being built in China 🇨🇳 could be negative I generally don’t talk about that because something could be “made in xxxxxx” but all the parts are from another country and companies don’t need to share that information so short of completely taking it apart to find where everything is made you can know the origin of every Peice of the machine

You can find exact the same machine, with the same interface, really similar ads , and different logo ( depends on country / company-seller). Original one is Rooma rm-a10, and copy in my country is 4Swiss a10.
    Huge disadvantage ( except off course max 12grams of coffee for one portion), that you will not find repair parts for it. That’s why all sellers companies “provide” door to door service. For that price you can buy amazing Switzerland Coffee machines such: Nivona, Melitta, Miele, that can give you 16+ grams .

    Stay away, after a year of use and ~1500 cups the power switch burned, the side panel is losing color because it was painted incorrectly on one side only, the coffee pug container is never aligned and you will have a mess every time you empty it, it will mold inside quickly. The bottom drip tray fills up after 4-5 cups and it always contains coffee grinds, the beans never slide down the bean tray and you have to constantly push the beans. Best part, there is no parts, if you want something fixed you have to send the machine in, a 3rd party is repairing them, they did not want to disclose who. Do yourself a favor and stay away from Terra, cheap OEM ordered china machines that cost them 150 bucks to buy at most.
