  • This is why we subtract 1/3 of CYA from our reading Alkalinity. As you can see from this video we get 320 Alkalinity reading just from adding CYA to the water. This is called Cyanurate Alkalinity. The easiest way to get a ballpark on your Carbonate Alkalinity is this. Reading Alk subtract your cya then multiply by .33 which is a 7.6 pH. 90 Alk subtract 50 CYA X .33 = 73.5 Carbonate Alkalinity. If you use Borates the figure will be different.

      No that don’t increase Alkalinity. If you use sodium Tetraborate or Borax to get Borates those two products will raise the alkalinity and pH only at first install. That’s why you use acid to offset those during the initial install of Borates. After that they do not affect the alkalinity at all.
