- Waxing your own Snowboard or Skis can seem like a daunting task, but in reality, if you scrape ice off your windshield, you can do it yourself!
Tools you will need:
-Wax Iron
-Wax
-Scraper
-Brush
-Vice Grips
-File
Once you get the hang of it, it should only take you 30 minutes and you'll be ready to rip down your local hill in no time!
Way more informative than other waxing tutorials on TH-cam!
Great tutorial! I'm trying to be the good Dad and figure these things out for my daughter. Happy to see Will Forte making snowboarding Tutorials!
Don’t know if you’ve looked at other vids too, ik different vids show different things but what I’ve learned from vids and experience from shops is tune the edges before you wax, then use the crayoning method to apply the wax instead of the drip method, and something I noticed a lot of people don’t mention is taking off the bindings, taken them off will one save you from having to cover them or just being careful not to get wax on them, two it’ll give a more flat place to rest the board, and three the screws pull the board so you just get a more even coat
Thanks for the tip! I have to rewax the board a bit. My daughter took it out after my first time waxing the board and said it was way to too fast. Think I need to remove some more wax haha

Glad I’m not the only one who thought Will Forte
This will be my first time doing this process to my board. Thank you
Amazing video dude, this was 100x easier to follow than a lot of other videos!👍👍
So glad that it helped!!
Helpful video. To the point, well explained, and friendly vibes.
Great video. Real easy to follow and understand. No gum stone I noticed you don’t use on your edges eh.
I live it Utah, sharpening edges is uncommon to begin with 😂
Very lucky. Out in Canada. Need those sharp edges on the east coast. Would love powder though.
@Figgles274 I couldn’t agree more. I cut my teeth up in New England and feel your pain.
Sharpen before waxing. Mark the sides of the edges with a Sharpie first so that you can see what you have.
What do you mean by see what you have
@carterhutchins5996 I think the idea is to put a sharpie over the edge, so when you sharpen it, you can ensure that you’ve hit the entire edge by visually seeing the how much of that sharpie mark is removed.
@@ZacharyKenney8 love that idea, thank you for the explanation/suggestion
When your board is waxed and brushed… if you rub your fingers on the board is it suppose to make like a squeaking sound? I don’t know if I scrubbed to hard or not.
In my experience, keep scraping until no more wax comes off. Push hard! The wax you care about is what’s left in the pores of the board.
thanks bro, will do this for this years season. greetings from austria
Does the edges have to be really sharp? Like can cut your fingers sharp?
Depends on where you’re skiing. East coast ice, then yes, cut your finger nail sharp. Mountain west, sharpen every three years.
This is a great video! Thank you my dude.
Sharpen first then wax.
Was about to post that! Yes, sharpen first! 2 degree sides (skis) is good for most Eastern conditions, but not necessary if you ski powder all the time.
Thanks the video bud. Happy I stumbled across it. Hope your doing well!
Thanks Paul! Great to hear it helped! Can’t complain at the moment. I hear a congrats are in order for you getting married man!
@@ZacharyKenney8 Glad to hear it. Yup, thanks bud! We actually got married in Park City. Didn't know that's where you were now. We plan to be out every so often in the winter moving forward. We will have to link up for some turns!
No way!! Sounds perfect my man
Are you supposed to let the wax cool to room temperature before scraping?
In my experience the wax cools very quickly, so I don’t do any extra wait time. But yeah, definitely don’t scrape it off right away if it’s still hot.
No base cleaner first?
That’s probably a good idea! I’ll have to start implementing it.
gummi stone for deburring is a must!
For sure. I’ll be honest, out here in Utah edges take a back seat as far being paid attention to… ain’t much use for’m here.
So you don’t really need the p-Tex?
Only need the Ptex to fix nicks, dings, and scratches. No need for it normally
Do you recommend dripping vs warm rubbing the wax on before iron? Why?
I have no experience with the warm rubbing, so I can’t really recommend which is better.
i like to heat the end of the wax and rub on so i dont waste a bunch of wax!
Good idea!
Why would you do your base face edge? More so at 88.
Sorry, I don’t understand the question?
Thanks bro bout to go up to the mountains
This was good and helpful dog, thanks yo!
Such a process ..i get it tho 👍🏾
Why not take a common hardware glove? End, attach a vacuum holes to the back of the glove so that well your scraping all of the excess wax off your board. The vacuum is sucking it up at the same time!
Didn’t know will forte shreds
Love it!
Everyone knows edges first, then wax. There's nothing like someone doing a tutorial who doesn't even know the proper order of things.🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
Is it me or are you using an ungodly amount of wax? Feels like other people will tell you to do like 1/4th of this?
Good god!! This reminds me of the toothpaste commercials where they lay down an inch of toothpaste on the toothbrush. Are you trying to sell wax or just be wasteful? You’ve got about 10x more wax than you need for proper coverage…and all that excess just gets scraped off and thrown in the trash. Try some restraint and see how it goes.
thank you for the video🫶🏻
