You guys taught me how to pack for my first trip as a teenager before I even told my parents I was leaving. How to prepare and what not to forget. And to have fun. I remember feeling so anxious because I had no idea how to tell my parents (they're very controlling: I was a fresh adult and I basically had to order myself to say that I was TELLING them that I was definitely going, not ask for permission. It was very messy.) that I was leaving, and I was very nervous because I had never gone anywhere that far on my own before - even though it was still in my own country - but simply looking up how to pack for a trip and travel tips really eased my mind about it whenever I started to overthink. And watching your travel videos inspired me so much and was such a good escape from everything. I had no idea how to do anything; how to book tickets, make an itinerary, plan for the days. It all seemed so huge and scary and impossible. Hell, I secretly created my own bank account alone just because of that trip, which was only a 4 hour train ride away!!! I decided to maybe start with what I would take with me. So I went off and bought a simple 15€ 40L backpack from Decathlon and it has been my faithful travel companion ever since, I've never gone on a trip without it EVER and the 10 year guarantee is nearly halfway through! Backpacking only! Obviously I overpacked like CRAZY for that trip, but this girl would 100% carry that absolute unit of a backpack all over again if she had to repeat that first taste of independence. Your channel truly helped me figure out the most important steps that I could take towards freedom (financial control - responsibility - preparation - a whole shitload of guts) , so I am incredibly grateful and beyond thankful for your dedication to it. I'm proud to say that I have now been to two other different countries (money is still tight - but I always budget!) several times over the years, and my backpack still looks and feels brand new! I know it's not much, but it sure makes a hell of a difference to me and that is what matters the most. I really like taking good care of my travelling gear. Nowadays I already know what to take with me, and my personal rule is to whenever I finish packing, ALWAYS remove 50% of it. A half-full backpack gives me the joy of being able to bring home another half backpack of memories (even if that's just a whole bunch of foreign candy!). Travel makes me so, so happy! And if it wasn't for YOUR easy-going nature and smart planning, I might've never stuck around, gotten hooked and discovered that. Good luck you two, thank you for everything and stay healthy! As a fellow vagabond and a woman of color, I want to say thank you. I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan but currently live in Arizona. My husband and I have taught in China, Vietnam, Thailand, and Tanzania. When I look at my photos and videos I feel immensely grateful but also sometimes very sad. Sad because I miss my friends abroad and worry that I'll never see them in person again. But I had amazing opportunities to meet amazing people and I will never forget those times in my life. yeah, its been pretty crazy... was saving in 2019 so 2020 could be my "travel year" but covid was like NAH, you can take another year off! And as someone who works in healthcare, its CRAZINESS going on... hopefully we can see change from healthcare to social justice moving forward!

Aliso Viejo, CA I've been following you guys for about 2.5 years now and you have been a great reminder and inspiration at the same time. From 2013 to 2017, I lived in Quito, Ecuador and explored that tiny country with tremendous curiosity. Additionally, I did some traveling around other parts of SA and was always in awe of the beauty and inspiration that was at my doorstep. I never took that 4 year adventure for granted, but my career (and a promotion) put me in the OC - definitely not a bad place to be at all. However, I could never truly feel comfortable or at home because of that tremendous 4 year life experience in South America; there was always an itch that I couldn't soothe. Later, I found this channel and it returned some of that feeling of "exploring the unknown" to my soul. For that, I thank you and your brother. Several months ago I was granted a transfer to Bogotà, Colombia and I have been extremely excited about returning to the that beautiful part of the world to begin another journey. That's what life is all about...the journey! As you quoted Heraclitus, change is the only constant in life! These words have never felt more true and profound. Thank You!
I am watching from CANADA - 5 days after my return from spending the entirety of lockdown in ITALY. The Italian people were lovely; I was in the heart of Rome and never experienced hoarding, scarcity, or overt panic. But it was definitely more quiet! Grateful to be there when restrictions began to ease and I could witness life returning to the country. ....and the lack of crowds at every monument and museum!

I’m from Texas and turned 50 years old in quarantine. In the last two years, I experienced 7 deaths (two by suicide) in my immediate circle of friends and family. Needless to say, that had me in a deep state of grieving. Then right before the pandemic, I lost my job I felt like the world just came crashing down. I’m not telling you this to be a buzz kill, but instead, as a place of reference. At first, I started watching your travel videos as an escape the sadness. However, it has now turned into inspiration and fuel to finally live my dream of seeing and experiencing the many cultures of the world. I now feel grateful, blessed and encouraged...so thank YOU BOTH! I’ve used the quarantine time to drastically declutter and downsize my house. I’ve saved all my extra stimulus money, pandemic unemployment, and the money made from selling my belongings to, God willing, take a two month solo trip thru Europe. The trip will still be on a shoestring budget, but I’m cool with that. My original dream was to take my two adult daughters on the journey, but that’s just not financially possible right now. And we all know, now more than ever, time is not guaranteed. Soooo...If I want to see the world, I need to do it now!! I’m not getting any younger and I have nothing (but a global pandemic) holding me back. So that leads me to my question: I recently came across some pretty stellar airfare deals for September/October to Europe. Do you think the country will be re-opened by then for international travel? I know I’m taking a risk by buying the airfare now, but unfortunately, I don’t have the financial luxury to take this trip any other way. I’d love to hear your thoughts. Jessa - 26 yrs old from Texas but originally raised from the Philippines. 2020 was supposed to be the year that I change my life from working 9am - 7pm Mon-Fri to backpacking around misjudged underlooked beautiful countries and immerse in the culture and learn about their religion and the way they live through meeting locals, no luxury hotels but local hostels and couchsurfing. I'm deeply saddened by the fact that I can't do it this year... however I am still lucky and thankful that me and my family are safe, and I pray for everyone who lost a loved one due to COVID19, to be strong and keep moving forward... I know this is hard and painful for everyone but may this be an awakening for us to appreciate our friends and family, take care of Mother Nature and realize that success and money ain't everything. Trust me, I know that life... and the world has slapped me in the back of my head to wake up and change my focus... Live a life full of experience, don't be a slave to a job you hate, don't sleep angry. Look ways to find joy in your every day life, tell your friends and family that you love them. Sarah from Leeds says hello. Things are getting good again here in good old Yorkshire after a trying few months. I am a NHS hospital worker and things got rather bad for a while. This whole situation has made me appreciate everything i have always taken for granted. Watching your videos has kept me going as travel has been off the cards. So a massive thank you, your positive attitude is inspiring. Global warming, pollution, political unrest, racism, unstable economies, fires, floods and plagues, we have them all but we as a species are survivors and we are our solution. Since lock down i am now an expert at recycling something i was very bad at before. I have grown my own fruit and veg and shared it with all my neighbors. We have painted pictures of each other, written songs very bad ones by the way. When something bad makes you take stock something good comes out of it. Peace and goodwill to you. I've been following you guys for about 2.5 years now and you have been a great reminder and inspiration at the same time. From 2013 to 2017, I lived in Quito, Ecuador and explored that tiny country with tremendous curiosity. Additionally, I did some traveling around other parts of SA and was always in awe of the beauty and inspiration that was at my doorstep. I never took that 4 year adventure for granted, but my career (and a promotion) put me in the OC - definitely not a bad place to be at all. However, I could never truly feel comfortable or at home because of that tremendous 4 year life experience in South America; there was always an itch that I couldn't soothe. Later, I found this channel and it returned some of that feeling of "exploring the unknown" to my soul. For that, I thank you and your brother. Several months ago I was granted a transfer to Bogotà, Colombia and I have been extremely excited about returning to the that beautiful part of the world to begin another journey. That's what life is all about...the journey! As you quoted Heraclitus, change is the only constant in life! These words have never felt more true and profound. Thank You!

The Italian people were lovely; I was in the heart of Rome and never experienced hoarding, scarcity, or overt panic. But it was definitely more quiet!
Grateful to be there when restrictions began to ease and I could witness life returning to the country. ....and the lack of crowds at every monument and museum!

Great message, Alex! I've been reflecting a lot and mourning a bit of the past and my lifetime of travel to-date. But also appreciating more of the little things and the slower pace of daily life. I also recognize that the world had a lot of problems pre-pandemic, and that something new and better will come out of this. Congrats on 1M subscribers! I'd love to see your take on camping, on surfing, on car camping, etc. I think a lot of people are looking for ways to get away in a world that won't let us and you are skilled at answering this question more than most, so while a simple idea like "car camping" doesn't have too much complexity, we follow you for the inspiration and allowing us to see how it works, drawbacks, lessons learned, how to even tour a national park these days, etc.

I’m from Texas and turned 50 years old in quarantine. In the last two years, I experienced 7 deaths (two by suicide) in my immediate circle of friends and family. Needless to say, that had me in a deep state of grieving. Then right before the pandemic, I lost my job I felt like the world just came crashing down. I’m not telling you this to be a buzz kill, but instead, as a place of reference.
At first, I started watching your travel videos as an escape the sadness. However, it has now turned into inspiration and fuel to finally live my dream of seeing and experiencing the many cultures of the world. I now feel grateful, blessed and encouraged...so thank YOU BOTH!
I’ve used the quarantine time to drastically declutter and downsize my house. I’ve saved all my extra stimulus money, pandemic unemployment, and the money made from selling my belongings to, God willing, take a two month solo trip thru Europe. The trip will still be on a shoestring budget, but I’m cool with that. My original dream was to take my two adult daughters on the journey, but that’s just not financially possible right now. And we all know, now more than ever, time is not guaranteed. Soooo...If I want to see the world, I need to do it now!! I’m not getting any younger and I have nothing (but a global pandemic) holding me back.
So that leads me to my question: I recently came across some pretty stellar airfare deals for September/October to Europe. Do you think the country will be re-opened by then for international travel? I know I’m taking a risk by buying the airfare now, but unfortunately, I don’t have the financial luxury to take this trip any other way. I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Jessa - 26 yrs old from Texas but originally raised from the Philippines. 2020 was supposed to be the year that I change my life from working 9am - 7pm Mon-Fri to backpacking around misjudged underlooked beautiful countries and immerse in the culture and learn about their religion and the way they live through meeting locals, no luxury hotels but local hostels and couchsurfing. I'm deeply saddened by the fact that I can't do it this year... however I am still lucky and thankful that me and my family are safe, and I pray for everyone who lost a loved one due to COVID19, to be strong and keep moving forward... I know this is hard and painful for everyone but may this be an awakening for us to appreciate our friends and family, take care of Mother Nature and realize that success and money ain't everything. Trust me, I know that life... and the world has slapped me in the back of my head to wake up and change my focus... Live a life full of experience, don't be a slave to a job you hate, don't sleep angry. Look ways to find joy in your every day life, tell your friends and family that you love them. Don't wait until you lose that chance 💕 take care everyone. I love you Vagabrothers, you guys have been such an inspiration in my life. This whole situation has made me appreciate everything i have always taken for granted. Watching your videos has kept me going as travel has been off the cards. So a massive thank you, your positive attitude is inspiring. Global warming, pollution, political unrest, racism, unstable economies, fires, floods and plagues, we have them all but we as a species are survivors and we are our solution. Since lock down i am now an expert at recycling something i was very bad at before. I have grown my own fruit and veg and shared it with all my neighbors. We have painted pictures of each other, written songs very bad ones by the way. When something bad makes you take stock something good comes out of it. Peace and goodwill to you.
