This movie was severely watered down, he actually saved about 150, but being humble in life he only took credit for 50, so they put 75 to honor him. There were some moments so incredible irl that they didn't even put it in the movie because people would think it was just movie theatrics, like when a Japanese soldier shot at Desmond as he was treating a wounded soldier, the gun jammed, Japanese soldier clears the jam and fires a shot into the ground to make sure it worked, aimed at Desmond again and the gun jammed a second time, making the Japanese soldier give up and move on. There were so many stories like that of his time up there it's crazy, at some point soldiers wouldn't even go up to the ridge if he wasn't going to be with them.

The fact the creators of the movie actually TONED DOWN Doss's feats still blows my mind. The army's number showed Doss saved close to 150 people. Doss humbly disagreed stating it couldn't have been more than 50. They decided to compromise on the number of 75 saved. Just at Okinawa. He actually served a lot longer than that, all without carrying a gun, while starving due to being a vegetarian. He was eventually discharged because his legs got shredded. He contracted TB while in recovery as well. At least two japanese soldiers experienced weapon malfunction while attempting to kill Doss. Everytime they would aim at him and pull the trigger the gun would jam. Aimed somewhere else and fired, gun worked, aimed back at Doss, weapon jammed. Then all the reports of men refusing to go in to the field without Doss praying for them. One time, two squads, one consisting of Doss went out. The squad without Doss, not a single man returned. When Doss's squad returned, they asked how many they lost. They couldn't believe it when 0 casualties were reported from Doss's squad. Near the end when he was officially removed from active combat, in his final battle, his legs were so shredded he could no longer walk, and he ended up with a broken arm. He splinted his arm with a broken rifle barrel he found. And while crawling, he continued to treat injured soldiers. He consistently surrendered his own stretcher for other wounded men. Including one time they were carrying him off the field and he demanded the medics stop and take another soldier first. At one point, he lost his bible in the field and was heartbroken. The men in his squad went straight back to an active warzone and searched for 3 days to find his bible. Go watch the Conscientious Objector documentary on YT. If you are interested in Doss it is the best source of info.
One of the parts of the story they had to cut out was actually Desmond's unit. The 77th ID was actually an experimental unit comprised of entirely above normal age troops. One of them was 55 and a WWI veteran even. They were an amazing unit, up to and including the Marine Corps on Guadalcanal claiming them as Marines. The Fat Electrician does an amazing video on the 77th.
Many stories about this man has not been in the movie, yet if someone told me that this guy saved more than what was recorded. I'd believe it. As someone who served in the military aswell, i never thought that a war can be fought without having to take a life, rather save it.😮
The Pacific battles were always no holds bar events. The Japanese did not sign the Geneva Convention rules of war and committed many war crimes on both civilians and enemy combatants. You saw 3 in Hacksaw Ridge. 1. Targeting medics. In Saving Private Ryan you notice that the Germans didn't deliberately target medics. The Japanese actually paid a bounty to soldiers that killed medics. 2. Killing wounded soldiers. 3. Using a white flag to attack the enemy. At the beginning of the movie Andtew Garfield is reciting a Bible passage from the book of Isiah. Towards the end of the movie you Desmond do some unbelievable things under unbelievable conditions. First consider that 1. He was a vegetarian and therefore didn't have the extended energy that protein provides, 2. He contacted tuberculosis while overseas which was diagnosed in 1946. During the battle he had to fight back coughing so as not to alert the enemy, 3. Desmond was not a big man. He was 5'8" tall and weighed 145 lbs. NOW go back to Isiah 40: 28-31. "...the Lord gives strength to the weak...they will not grow weary." FINALLY consider that in a 12 hour period Desmond carried, dragged, and lowered a minimum of 11,250 pounds (assuming a minimum weight for each man 150 lbs X 75 men = 11,250 lbs. minimum.) Where did Desmond get the strength and stamina to do what he did? Does the answer lie in Isiah?
Not that we need to have the same convictions as Desmond - but the world sure needs us to have the conviction to stand for what we believe against all odds like Desmond.
This movie is honestly an amazing depiction of an amazing man. Even if they played some things down and tweaked some things, I still love it. Probably one of my favorite war movies

"You read that he saved 75..." He thought it was less, but witnesses said that it was a lot more - so the army split the difference to come up with the number. IMO it doesn't much matter because saving even ONE in that situation was still a major achievement.
You should consider reacting to The Fat Electrician. He provides true stories about American exceptionalism during war time from the creation of the Marines (The Barbary Pirates), and the most gangsta Marine, Dan Daly, to the US Navy destroying 1/2 of Iran's navy in 8 hours, and "World War Tree" (that isn't a misspelling). Thats one thing when Doss puts the helmet strap on, i remember hearing that was not encouraged because the concussion of a bomb could blow there helmet off, and their head with it.
I have to say ultimate respect to you all for doing war movie reactions - because it is just so important even more so of your sort of age range, that recognition is given to these movies where so much sacrifice was given and of course amongst some of the wars gone before sadly where those that served at the time were let down in one way or another. I wonder would you all consider doing reaction to Battle of Britain, the whole movie is on TH-cam already but no reactor has ever done a reaction to it only ever seen someone do reaction to the opening scene. Admittedly it is obviously a much older movie but it is highly regarded as 1 of the greatest depictions of that period of WW2 when the RAF ultimately prevailed in stopping Hitlers Luftwaffe from wiping them out to conquer the skies of Britain for invading. It has a huge list of all star top name cast of the time and as said is hugely brilliant and faithful film to the events of the period, just huge shame as yet no one done reaction to it.
Hat's off to the cast and crew who helped out this film together. The only detail that they couldn't get would be the smell of death and for that would have been present there. Also hats off t to you guys with your commentary, very respectful. Another Mel Gibson must watch is Apocalyp to. It's not in English but the dialogue with the captions is easy enough to follow throughout the film
Need yall to react to band of brothers and the pacific, those 2 are THE best war movies/mini-series, like similar to saving private ryan but actual historically accurate
You gents missed the point of the Court Marshal. Doss had the RIGHT to not bear arms and they tried to put him in prison for exercising his rights. They were absolutely in the wrong for that.
The heroics this man displayed and they had to deplay some of the acts he did because it wouldn’t be believable, like for example he carried all those wounded men with a bulletproof in his shoulder
Desmond was a true hero among hero's Every island was a horror in the pacific , fortunately my uncles survived though 37,000 men were wounded and 12, 000 men were killed on that island
That's the power of faith: When the Good Lord is with you, nothing is impossible. God bless Desmond Doss and his family! God bless all the courageous veterans with nerves of steel who risked everything and sacrificed so much to protect our countries and preserve the freedoms we enjoy today! God bless all the souls - military and civilian - that we have lost in times of war! God bless America! God bless us all and grant us peace!
20:39 unfortunately that act wasn’t saving his life, it was taking the pain away for the last few minutes. He did him a mercy, not a favor. But all the same, both acts take courage beyond imagination
listening to Tauren Well's christian gospel song trenches and i thought this song fits Desmond Doss's story and faith in God and bravery in the war. His faith, Belief and Trust in God saved him and his men. God was with him covering, protecting him and his men and also his enemies. Trenches is a beautiful song too.

This "Group" behave as if this was from a video game and not depiction of REAL LIFE. I suspect they might be the first to devolve into a blubbering mass in real life.
Desmond "Let me get one more" Doss
I hope you guys watched Society of The Snow, one of the best movie in 2023 (it based on famous real event). The survivors involved w the actors to give them insights, even the real families of the survivors cameo in the movie. It’s a homage for the survivors & those who died, there are actual photos at the end credits.
My nephew is named Desmond Doss Sisson in his honor. One of the greatest American heroes.
Heros are not born, They are FORGED in FIRE!
I love this movie and your guys commentary’s!!!
Yall should watch kingsman
W
Yesssirr
Finally someone said it
Good review guys.
No hate fr but Y'all talked through the best parts 😭
Y'all talk over so much of the dialog yelling stupid stuff and then you edit out the conversation where Smitty apologizes to Doss.... cut out half of the commander dude apologizing to Doss ... Y'all should know better not to talk over the movie and definitely not edit out the most powerful damn parts of the movie!!
Yeah these guys need to take more notes for future videos. Seems like They just watch movies only for views, don't care about the storyline and all
"You read that he saved 75..." He thought it was less, but witnesses said that it was a lot more - so the army split the difference to come up with the number. IMO it doesn't much matter because saving even ONE in that situation was still a major achievement.
After the war, he didn't talk about it until the men he saved put the spotlight on him.
He is a fantastic storyteller, very funny, and all the stories he tells are true.
"ev wold never"
"he wouldnt be there in the 1st place"
"yeah"
lmao love yalls synergy, have watched since MHA days and always love the group. I don't know if it is intentional but yall seem to argue less than the willpower days which makes watching easier at times but ngl sometimes I miss the RT TV courtroom arguing lmaoo
Whoever is doing these thumbnails is killing it ngl
I want to also advise watching The Fat Electrician talk about the 77th ID (Infantry Division) that Doss was apart of.
still find it crazy what a human being can do to another human being. as long as humans exist, there will always be conflict.
Need yall to react to band of brothers and the pacific, those 2 are THE best war movies/mini-series, like similar to saving private ryan but actual historically accurate
one of the best movies ever made fr
You gents missed the point of the Court Marshal. Doss had the RIGHT to not bear arms and they tried to put him in prison for exercising his rights. They were absolutely in the wrong for that.
Court Martial.
Saw this in cinema back in 2016. It was scary seeing it for the first time but amazing movie. Probably My fav War movie
as trained combat medic in my youth, this film hits really close.
The Amazing Medic Soldier
With all the buzz around helldivers 2 rn yall should watch Starship Troopers
Desmond Doss was a true American Hero ❤🎉
Never compromise what you believe in. 💯
I'm not a Christian, but if I were, I would want to be like Desmond. He is everything a Christian SHOULD be.
The heroics this man displayed and they had to deplay some of the acts he did because it wouldn’t be believable, like for example he carried all those wounded men with a bulletproof in his shoulder
If you guys have not watched it yet you guys have to watch band of brothers! Awesome reaction to this movie. Loved it!
Desmond was a true hero among hero's
Every island was a horror in the pacific , fortunately my uncles survived though 37,000 men were wounded and 12, 000 men were killed on that island
13 hours, and fury are both amazing as well
That's the power of faith: When the Good Lord is with you, nothing is impossible. God bless Desmond Doss and his family! God bless all the courageous veterans with nerves of steel who risked everything and sacrificed so much to protect our countries and preserve the freedoms we enjoy today! God bless all the souls - military and civilian - that we have lost in times of war! God bless America! God bless us all and grant us peace!
yall gonna do band of brothers?
Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it.
20:39 unfortunately that act wasn’t saving his life, it was taking the pain away for the last few minutes. He did him a mercy, not a favor. But all the same, both acts take courage beyond imagination
Great reaction as always! You guys should react to Society of the Snow if you haven't watched it already. It's an amazing movie!
listening to Tauren Well's christian gospel song trenches and i thought this song fits Desmond Doss's story and faith in God and bravery in the war. His faith, Belief and Trust in God saved him and his men. God was with him covering, protecting him and his men and also his enemies. Trenches is a beautiful song too.
This is one of my most favorite movie.
Since you guys enjoy war movies will you guys ever react to Band of Brothers, The Pacific or the currently airing Masters of the Air???
Hope you guys actually check out 1917. Probably my favorite war movie ever!
Rob really mad at Americans winning. Lol
He's that woke??? 😂
@@thepimp31 Guess so
@@thepimp31 It’s not woke though, In WW2, Americans were “good guys”. Now, Post-WW2 when the United States became a the dominant Global Superpower, that’s a whole other story…
Perfect film, Mel Gibson is an incredible director. Amongst the best
Awesome reaction of my favorite movie!!!!!!!!!😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Rttv react to kingsman secret service
Time to do Band of Brothers.
