For me, I choose 3 best white pencils: 1. Derwent Drawing 2. Pablos 3. Goldfaber I never thought that the Faber Castell Goldfaber white pencil was so good and had the ability to give details on dark surfaces! cool!
I was afraid that goldfaber being a student grade would pale when compared to the likes of luminance and others but yay! I'm very pleased. Thank you for this.
I tried that test where you draw hard lines on the paper and then color over it with a dark shade. My pencil performed as well as, and in many cases, better than the white pencils in this video. The brand I used to perform my test was Crayola. I'll gladly exchange my slightly used white Crayola for a slightly used white Caran D'ache.
Very good test! Clear and to the point. I wonder that i found your channel so late. Interesting how Luminance and Polychromos perform in your test. Nice to see the Goldfaber, they’re rarely testet.
I was surprised by the pablo! I have them but for some reason assumed the white wouldn't perform as well. Good to know. I would say another one to add to the mix is the holbien soft white. It's definitely one of the most opaque next to the derwent drawing pencil.
I’m a beginner, so I’m trying to decide which white pencil to get. My prismacolor set came with a white - but as you point out, it is rather meh. I will try a Goldfaber and see how that goes. Thanks for doing this comparison! 😊
I have been using some of this color for yrs. I don't have alber castell But in my in opinion Prefect Blending Light-fast Softness Over all Prismacolor are the best Just use krylon or hair spray to ur art for long last light fastness and it will fade for yrs by yrs.
Haha... Just when I'm thinking of purchasing another Luminance white... Now I'm going for GOLD... faber tat is... Lol. Thanks so much for sharing yr detailed tests! Appreciate with all my heart- u helped me save lots of money...
Very informative thanks for info.....will be using your knowledge in video to further my purchases and drawing and painting glad you added different tonal paper.....that help alot as I bought different pads to try out to see what I'd like the best...
Simply Amazing review! Clear and concise your testing was fair and your a delight to listen to over the length of the video! Thanks for your expertise and I am looking forward to more videos from YOU! Edit : I did try to go to Amazon and looked for the Faber-Castell Goldfaber White pencil and found on 1 pencil for $14.95? HUH? This is not what you tested is it? Please add a link as I was unable to get one from your description, Nor was the Derwent pencil available.
Goldfaber open stock pencils are .99¢ each on Blick and discounts can be applied on them. Of course you need to buy $35 or more for free shipping. Amazon is very expensive for many art supplies, basically you're paying for shipping in the price.
here in the US on Amazon, the Goldfaber white pencil is $0.74 plus $4.95 shipping from Blick, which is less than getting it directly from Blick. Most times my professional art supplies are less expensive on Amazon with Prime, plus the prime policy makes it very easy to quickly address any issues such as returns or replacements. When you return an item in prime shipping you get refunded just as soon as the return label is scanned and in most cases when asking for a return with either credit or replacement, they do not even want the original item returned, one less aggregation with no new shipping charged such as happens when dealing with non prime shipping sellers on Amazon. I like Blick but the very speedy delivery with prime advantages means that I rarely order from their stand alone store, but no issues since Blick sets their prices on Amazon so they still get the profit and I get my supplies within 3 days, many times next day. In the case of this Goldfaber pencil, Blick chose not to use Prime, but it is still a better price and dealing with them to handle any issues has never presented a problem for me.
Im lazy when it comes to whites that needs to stay white. Im a cheat; I use my derwent from the inktense it is awesome; if i cant use that i usually grab my carbathello pastel white. but then again im a newbe im used to wc; my derwents artist line are a bit disapointing as to pigment release; so i saw a sale toay in my country that made my jaw drop; a tin of 36 polychromos for 45 euro's. They usually go for 70 where i live and a sale on this brand is rare here so i jumped for it; i figured i can't go wrong with these since my hands endure fibromyalgia i do need to have a pencil with enough pigment. Wich is why derwent was so disapointing. I love it for wc based stuff. so weird.
thank u 🙏 im currently in the planning stages of starting a black paper art book/jurnal and i wanted to find a great pencil to use on it. even though i actually use faber castelle mostly myself i was kinda quick to dismiss the goldfaber because the one in my set isnt that great, but i now know that thats the one im going to get 😁
This video helped me find a good white pencil thank you~ I really needed one for my drawings and I currently use prismacolor white and it’s not good for highlights much
Great testing! I'm currently using the polychromos and luminance whites. After seeing this review and knowing that some other artists use it too, I might be purchasing the Derwent one!
Thank you for sharing! I am trying to trace something onto a black canvas. A Pencil does work but the lines are quite faint, I was wondering if you could recommend a white pencil that could transfer ona surface once traced? thank you
after watching a video a few years ago where the luminance was the clear winner i am surprised at your results. of course i bought like 5 of the luminance and i think for the most part i am very happy with its blending capabilities. BUT i would love a pencil which is more opaque. luckily i have a pablo to play with and perhaps order one of the other top three to evaluate. thanks for a great video.
@@Amiehowardart i remember that! i just recently discovered the derwent drawing chinese white thanks to your video if i am remembering correctly. tried it, then bought a handful more!
Thank you that is really helpful, my white pencil kinda looks like the prismacolor one, ok for blending and lightning but if you want a white stroke good luck lol, but I wasn't sure if other white pencils were really different, now I know they are ! Have you ever tried the white Caran d'Ache Museum Aquarelle ? I saw several artists using it and saying it was the best, and it does look very nice from what I saw. I'm going to do some shopping now ;)
is funny because i have the goldfaber ones and i didn't realise how opac the white was untill I watched this video but yea the other day i was working with deep indigo and black and the withe pretty much whiten them out
I am a beginner so this helps so much thank you for your time. Is there a white pencil I could use on a black motorcycle helmet. I need a pencil that I can sketch designs on and the paint over the top of the sketch without leaving interfering with the white paint. Appreciate any help
After much thinking and debating (with myself, lol) about what should be my next set of colored pencils, I ended up ordering the Goldfabers plus an additional white Goldfaber to use with my other colored pencils (all the whites are either used up or so terrible that I can only use them for blending...) - And now I see this video of yours, telling me that I apparently made a very good decision. Yay! Can´t wait for the mailman to get here and bring me my new goodies.
Spread the gospel god loves you so as jesus love you all and goodnight and repent for your sins and prayers for Ukraine and don't let temptation ever overcome you be strong against temptation guys love you all and goodnight and repent asap
This is really really nice. I'm a beginner and i need a good white pencil for drawing. Thank you this helped me a lot

appreciate how thorough this is, been wondering about a good white pencil to overlay dark colors and potentially even markers
For me, I choose 3 best white pencils:

I'm using the Derwent for long time now and I'm the happiest - crisp white and no need to press like crazy ;)
Very good test! Clear and to the point. I wonder that i found your channel so late.

Im here just looking for a way to highlight my graphide drawings thanks for this video.
Thanks Amie. When I do coloured pencil I use the Derwent Chinese White. So yaah!
wahey!! =D
My favourite too ^_ ^

Great test! For indenting white, I like the Prismacolor Verithin - it is hard enough to leave good indentations, especially fine lines. Try it!
oooh i haven't tried that one yet!

Great comparison Amy. But i was wondering the whole time what nail colour you got on, it looks so nice.
ahaha thank you =P they're actually a set from amazon!
The Goldfaber white performed great, but is it as lightfast as the others?
Thx I really needed advice on what to buy
Thank you! This is what I was looking for 🙏
You’re welcome 😁
This video helped me find a good white pencil thank you~ I really needed one for my drawings and I currently use prismacolor white and it’s not good for highlights much
OoOh what do you use now? :0
I am wondering if you would have included general charcoal white and Conte A paris charcoal white for comparison in this experiment...
Great testing! I'm currently using the polychromos and luminance whites. After seeing this review and knowing that some other artists use it too, I might be purchasing the Derwent one!
It's a nice pencil, for sure!
Hb 2B 6B 9B which is the best to draw on Baby blue canvas background? Thank you. God Bless you! 🙏 ❤️
Fantastic set of tests.
Glad you like them! :)

Great to hear! I've also been using the holbein soft white recently which is very opaque!

I really like the the prisma color white pencil what does it do for the branding styles
Thank you that is really helpful, my white pencil kinda looks like the prismacolor one, ok for blending and lightning but if you want a white stroke good luck lol, but I wasn't sure if other white pencils were really different, now I know they are ! Ahaha yeah they’re all so different!! I haven’t tried that one yet but I’ll give it a go 😊
Thanks for this! I’m wondering if I can use a colored pencil to draw white on top of charcoal?
I’m just getting into drawing/sketching and found your video to help me choose a white pencil. Do you have a video on the best black pencil?
Coloured pencil or graphite/carbon?
Can you please do one for black pencils? 😍
is funny because i have the goldfaber ones and i didn't realise how opac the white was untill I watched this video but yea the other day i was working with deep indigo and black and the withe pretty much whiten them out
It's good isn't it =D

I've ordered some white pencils to experiment with, need to get more creative!
I am a beginner so this helps so much thank you for your time. Is there a white pencil I could use on a black motorcycle helmet. I need a pencil that I can sketch designs on and the paint over the top of the sketch without leaving interfering with the white paint. Appreciate any help
Staedtler permanent Chinagraph pencil, black barrel.

The nail color is distracting.
I don't know which ones are the best but I know Master choice is absolutely the worst and a waste of your money
