    There was probably a hydraulic pump fitted to the front of the tractor where the spacers are positioned . This would have been to power a heavy duty front end loader and was driven directly by the crankshaft . Most agricultural loaders are powered by the tractors internal system . Your 4wd Massey 165 has probably been fitted with a HD loader at some point in its life .

    • @woodlandwrench
      @woodlandwrench  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh that's very interesting! I was curious as to why there were spacer nuts, looked very DIY to me. Makes sense if they removed something that, as you say, was mounted there at some point in time.
      Thanks for watching! And also, thanks for your subscription, it means a lot to me ❤️

      @@woodlandwrenchthank you for taking the time to reply, appreciate it. Are you able to get another grill for your 165 or have you got it somewhere. I am sure the tractor would feel prouder and work much better with a new grill. I think it would be too hard to make one the same.

    • @woodlandwrench
      @woodlandwrench  ปีที่แล้ว

      @TheGrimReaper1 Yeah, it didn't come with one when I bought it. I think a grill is about $100 new, which is decently affordable, I think. I'll probably buy one for it in the not too distant future 😊

    You don't want to hit in to new ball joint ends with hammer. it might damage the joint. ofcourse this is tractor so little slack in steering parts are no problem, but with the cars you don't want to do that.

    • @woodlandwrench

      I wasn't able to access the nut with an impact driver, so I resorted to tapping it with a hammer. I don't think I damaged it this time, but it's good to know for the future, so thanks for the information.

      If you want to strengthen the front casting replace your spacer nuts with a flat plate with tight holes. You should probably also bush the holes in the existing plate so those holes are tight as well.

    Was she manufactured 4wd or home modification?

    • @woodlandwrench
      @woodlandwrench  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      She was imported to Norway as a regular 165, then rebuilt and sold new as a skidder. I have seen a few of these around in Norway, but I don't reckon there are many left. I do not know the name of the company that build them unfortunately.
      Someone told me that the front axle is the same one they used for various military vehicles, modified to fit the original MF front axle mounting bracket.
      I did not install it myself, but you could. I know there are aftermarket 4WD kits that will fit various old tractors, including this one.
      Hope this answered your question adequately. Thanks for watching :)

      @colmanlong1032 I'm not sure about the exact part number. There probably is a kit for you, at least one that can be modified to fit on your rig.
      On this tractor, it's mounted in place of the service hatch on the left-hand side, where you would normally access the hydraulic screen filter.

    You must spent 3k in repair cost, so are you so far off the beaten path that you have to get packages at the nearest store 2 hours away or is there no FEDX?
    So I see how you have so much floor space, your door in on the side, I couldn't do that on my 26'x36 garage, my doors are on the ends, not sure if makes a difference or not, but sure does look like you have lots of room......
    Did you find lost snap ring yet? I'll keep an eye for it incase it flew over here, or you threw it over here.............

    • @woodlandwrench
      @woodlandwrench  ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha, yes, the snap ring may very well have flown over there 😆 We don't have FedEx in my area, but we do have others that will deliver to a home address.
      Yes, there's decent floor space. The building is ok. In a perfect world, I'd make it slightly longer with an extra garage door where I could park the new holland tractor. But I'm very happy with it regardless.

    why didn't you make the hydrostatic hydraulic steering a bottle in the front double action with a hydraulic steering head and a hydraulic pump and upgrade the tractor to become more modern and easier to drive and you preferred to repair all this provincial construction
