Nice and tidy - if it was any more tightly integrated, it would be in the drivers seat! I'm always nervous about having moving drums and gears close to me, but I guess those drums only move when you pull the clutch so it's not so risky.
Haha yes, it's very integrated! Agreed about moving parts being a potential hazard, they didn't think too much about safety back in the late 1960s 😅 But it's not too bad, as you say. Thanks for the comment, and for watching! ❤️
Nice MF 165 and good work! Is it a former army tractor The Norwegian military (army) bought at least over 200 MF tractors (mainly 165) in one transaction from Eikmaskin during mid seventies. MF 165 four-wheel tractors are mostly converted two-wheel tractors. The front wheel drive was assembled at Eikmaskin's main facility in Stavanger.
Very interesting. I've been told that the 4WD front axle is the same one used for various other military vehicles. I am not sure if my tractor specifically was bought by the military initially. It looks to have been built as a skidder tractor brand new. The guy who sold it to me said it had sat for many many years out in the woods, without being used. Thanks for the comment! And for watching of course ❤️
Good question. I do think mechanical is very nice because there's less things to break, less expensive parts, and it's extremely robust. But on a hydraulic winch, you can install remote control quite easy, which makes working with it a lot less straining, since you don't have to run up and down to the tractor all the time, in order to operate the winch! For that reason alone, I think I'd prefer hydraulic, honestly. If remote control wasn't a subject, then mechanical all the way 😊 Thanks for the comment! And for watching ❤️
Now we’re getting close! 😉 added the chains and my Igland 4201 to my Ford this evening. This connection on your winch, is that what’s called «saksekobling»? Looks pretty tight and reliable!
Yeah we're closing in on the season! Awesome stuff 😊 You are correct, it's called «saksekobling» - I have no idea what it's called in English.. It's a bit finnicky to connect, but once it's on, it's incredibly robust! Thanks for the comment, and for watching ❤️

I would think changing that winch gear oil once in 10 years is fine, I'd be more incline to lube the seized up rusted fairlead rollers that will prematurely wear the cable...... Sooooo why do you have a winch like that? I prefer a remote or rope activation for winching, not a fan of climbing on and off tractor to operate winch...... I have small Fransgard pto winch, no excavator needed to hook it up. For a pto winch to fit your tractor, it would probably cost $4-6k, I cant afford to buy you that much coffee.......
It would probably be fine to leave the oil, yes. But I am not confident that there won't leak water into the gearbox, that's the main reason why I change it before every season. Had I been storing it proper inside the workshop, or at least under roof, off-season, then I'd probably not worry about it too much. I have a winch like that because it came with the tractor. I would much prefer to have a remote controlled one, that would be a magnificent improvement in my workflow. It's a massive pain to walk up and down to the tractor all the time. The reason why I don't switch to a remote controlled PTO winch is, like you say, $4-6k! I do not have that sort of money to spend on... Well, anything. You might assume from some of my equipment, that I have money to spend, but I do not! I wouldn't be asking for people to buy me a coffee, if I had $5k laying around to spend on a new winch, haha! Maybe one day in a few years I can do this TH-cam thing full-time, and make enough money to improve my equipment, but that will probably never happen to be honest. Currently I'm just using whatever money I get, to buy cameras and tools for making better videos. I'd like to acquire a drone in the future, I think that would really boost the viewer experience, especially for videos on outdoor projects! Anyway, this comment turned into a book, sorry, I'll quit rambling. Thanks for another comment! And for watching of course ❤️
@@woodlandwrench Drone would be nice, I seen YT videos with drone footage, they really give good overhead view and somehow they follow the tractor. I wouldn't have clue how to use one. Some how you young people can learn that stuff, I have all I can do to get on YT........
@@job38four10 Yeah the footage from a drone can be really amazing for certain things. I have no idea how to use one, some people say it's a hard learning curve. I was thinking I'd get one that's specifically easy to operate and maybe with auto-follow like you said, that would be amazing. I just want the awesome footage, I don't really have any interest in actually operating one haha. But they're like $2000 or so for a proper drone that can shoot good video. So yeah, might be a while. I am saving for it though! Both with my own money and also the money I get from this youtube stuff, so it should happen eventually! I noticed you said "can't buy enough coffee to buy a winch" so I assume you've bought a coffee for me? Your name on YT doesn't correspond with any of the names on my support page, but of course you may use a different one. Anyway, thank you so much if you did buy me a coffee! ❤Actually I'd thank you regardless, for watching and commenting! That's a nice piece of equipment for the Massey tractor .
Thank you! Old but gold! 😊
Thanks for watching ❤️
What a cool winch and tractor combination, thanks for sharing. Hope you feel better soon.
Thank you for the kind words! ❤️
Thanks. I learned how to properly use a pipe wrench on this procedure!
Haha! 😂 Thanks for watching❤️
Very interesting, surprised how heavy a frame that was added to the MF165, seems very robust!
Agreed, it's surprisingly hefty. I'm not complaining though! 😃 Thanks for watching ❤️

Morro å se en annen entusiast som liker å bruke eldre utstyr. :) Har selv en skogsrigget 83modell Fiat 780dt med sandvikvinsj.
