I need good shingle recommended for S Fl. No hail. Lots of rain and high wind. Please recommend different grades and best. Limited budget. For rental house. Can you also talk about flat roof material replacement. I have flat roof over carport.
I would pick metal but also considering Certainteed Northgate ( not available in Austin, TX but I can contact them and see 😊) Thank you for the recommendations 😊
Durability and wind resistance are crucial factors when choosing roofing materials, especially in areas prone to severe weather. Have you had any experience with the installation process? Is it more or less complex than other shingle types? Thanks for sharing.
Just watched this post from you and wanted to add some personal corroboration regarding the "one problem with this shingle" point you made. I'm on the central Florida coast and had my roof replaced year. Knowing the performance advantages of SBS shingles, that's what I wanted to have installed. Originally, based on reviews I'd seen on your channel and others, I wanted to use Malarkey Legacy, but soon discovered they were not sold in Florida. That was bad enough...but, as it turned out, I couldn't find SBS shingles from any brand available from anyone in this area. Even the roofing contractor I used (which specializes in Certainteed products), couldn't get CertainTeed's own Northgate shingles delivered here (or so they claimed). It was very disappointing. I ended up with CertainTeed Landmark, which I understand is a decent product. But, knowing the advantages of SBS and willing to pay more for a premium product that provides better protection in Florida's climate and weather extremes, the fact that I couldn't get the specific product I wanted to use, or any product of comparable construction and quality was shocking. Having to accept, instead, a lower quality alternative on my house was incredibly frustrating. To me, it's crazy that no SBS shingles were available in Florida. Hopefully, the manufacturers and distributors will change that soon.
I live in Tampa, FL area. Because of strong wind, 1/4 of roof shingles were detached. I called a few places but they only carry Certainteed Landmark. Is it comparable with Northgate?
@@homesteadroofing Looks like my current one with damage is Certainteed Saint Gobain. What is your take on that one? It only lasted 9 years before Hurricane Milton did hit us. What would be your recommendation if I cannot find Certainteed Northgate or ClimateFlex?
@@homesteadroofing I appreciate your reply. There is another product called RoofRunner AIR product that is supposed to be more breathable. Have you used it?
I'm always leery of anyone that takes 7 minutes to get to the point. This should have been a 2 minute video. Same old tired mystery-box formula to string viewers along to extend the TY engagement metric.

It’s Certinteed Northgate. Fast forward to 7:10.. you’re welcome..🙄
That's why we put the chapter dividers in there, so people can jump right to whatever section they want to see.
I have the Malarkey Legacy and I love it. I’m lucky because I live in Portland, Oregon and their main factory is only a few miles away.
I'm in Kansas and I specified Malarkey Legacy with the Copper granules on the shingle so I won't get mildew. The shingle should last a long time.

This shingle can install in colder temps and it seals very fast. I don't recall ever having one of these blow off.
@@homesteadroofing That’s impressive. Thanks for sharing your experience. Great to hear how reliable these shingles are.
CertainTeed Northgate

No, it isn't. But if you can get Landmark ClimateFlex, that is closer to the Northgate

Most of my shingle blow off calls are for Certainteed. Buyer beware. He may be sponsored by them.
Thanks for the recommendation but if you can't get the Northgate, do you have a second suggestion? Something else that's close to performance?
Malarkey Legacy
Is Atlas Pro Lam ok?
I've heard good things about it.
What’s your opinion about Tamko?
Definitely not one I would use.
What's your opinion between Certainteed's RoofRunner and Diamond Deck.
We've used both. I haven't found a big enough advantage to spend the extra money for the DD. We use RR on pretty much every roof.

northgate
I like metal the best
Watch one video and you know Certainteed owns this guy.
🙄

So why watch the video?
