Thank you for posting this video. I just want to clear up certain things that you showed or said during your presentation. 1. You got the smaller ladder on the roof, but did not follow the three point of contact rule. You only had two point of contact every time that you went up a rung. It is very important, that you never carry tools or any other item in your hands while climbing up or going down a ladder. How about using a rope to bring the smaller ladder up? 2. You did not use the three feet rule. This rule states that the ladder should extend a minimum of three feet above the edge of the roof. This works in conjunction with the 4-in-1rule (the base of a ladder should be one foot away from a wall for every four feet of height).

I don’t like meeting roofers, then I can’t be convinced to sign contract under high pressure. No insurance after hurricane. Quotes. Start low, some double or triple low price. Cost double price I paid for bigger roof 5 years ago. Roofers send quotes to my email. I compare. No pressure. Some won’t do without me being there. Some won’t come out without me paying a fee. Ha!

I recently received a letter from my home insurance provider saying they will not be renewing my fire policy because my old asphalt shingle roof has "mold, algae, mildew" ? The best way is to remove the snow, plain and simple. If there's no snow to melt, there's no water to freeze and back up.

I appreciate your videos. In need for a roof replacement this spring. Even with my 40 years experience in carpentry and building material sales I learned some new things. I’ve replaced two roofs myself years ago but this time I’m hiring a contractor. Luckily I have had neighbors who had theirs done and getting references. Went to our local roofing supply as well to get references from them. Do you recommend Ice & water up the full valley or just one course? Central IN so not a ton of snow but we get lots of rainfall. My roof, shingled w/ malarkey Highlander, (so so, what insurance would cover) w/ all the labor was $15k. I saw the cost sheet, about 4-5k materials, rest was labor. Thankful the hail damage claim paid out through the insurance.

New subscriber here. I have been watching YT videos of other contractors the last few weeks. I find yours more helpful, especially those tips, etc. I need to replace a rental property’s roof. I noticed some contractor’s quotes are higher vs those quotes from contractors who don’t know that the property is a rental. I have gotten 5 quotes. Can that be the case here? If you won’t mind can I email you three of the quotes I am leaning to? Thanks in advance.

There's nothing at all wrong in any circumstance to let a legitimate roofing company look at the estimate. It will only favor the homeowner.

Right, Some roofing business owners take advantage over Insurance co and Home owners however, i think it is fair because Insurance co. been doing the same thing for decades and sometimes they decline a re-roof claim to a homeowner that is been paying in time for 20 and even 30 yrs. I've seen this several times and totally unfair for the poor elderly home owner. They will get you if you let them, our ignorance let them get us all.

Shingles? No. I'll pass. I've they're painful.

I can only speak for myself on this topic. I live in the Southeast and our home had the Chalet Shingles which were failing. Roofers came to my neighborhood like locusts and I shooed them away because my roof was not leaking. Many were unscrupulous meaning there was something in it for me. No thank you. We were probably one of the last homes around that had the original roof. 14 year old house. Had roof mold removed once, and it was worth it. Yep...cheap shingles. While visiting family and not in town, my wife let a roofer do an inspection. Fortunately, they were a reputable company, so when I returned, I listened to their findings. There was some damage, and my gutters were dinged. Only seen up high, not very noticeable from the ground. I agreed, and the insurance adjuster arrived. I have a $5,000 deductible and told my wife I would be happy to get a new roof for that amount. It is a very complex roof. There was a hail storm some months back, but I didn't give it a second thought. Roofer wanted me to claim umbrella damage and such. I said no, just a new roof and gutters thank you. Adjuster arrives and was a very pleasant man. I told him that this is all new to me, and I have been with the company for 40 years, and the only claim was a cracked windshield and my car being towed. That is all in 40 years. I should be on their TV commercials. I am the customer they want. He chuckled and went on the roof with my roofer. I am a subscriber to your fine channel and did my homework on materials and chose upgraded shingles, standard gutters, and all the rest. Everything new. A small section of sheathing needed to be replaced. Within 3 days, a check for the entire roof minus my deductible was deposited into my bank account. A beautiful roof it is. A great insurance company as well. I let the roofers work, but I knew exactly what I was looking at. Some of my neighbors did not get the expertise my roof got. My insurance did go up some though. Such is life. I really think my company stands by their customers, but having virtually no claims in 40 years did not hurt my case.

I have a question, can you(as a roofer) go into a contact to buy a home under the condition you can fix the roof under insurance through your own company, but back out of buying the house during option phase? So you get a roof job easy without having to buy the home?

Gives them new roof and drops them. Problem solved. There are way too many new roofs being installed where the old one just needs repaired.

This sounds like an out of control claims rep at the insurance company that simply mouse clicks their way through the day. I would bet those reps also are rated on their annual reviews on processed claims falling into factors like denied, approved, amount of loss, etc. Some sort of industry bell curve. I've witnessed customer reps (other industry) being ranked and rated which also directly affected their salary and bonus. The problem usually starts at the top. If this particular company is already under financial stress from other major events then they just may be cranking up the pressure to deny. Most people give up.
