I had Square. Set up the Sutton bank account and ran a single transaction. Left it for several months and came back to rev it up for the business I set it up for and found my account frozen, myself accused of being a possible money launderer (with a single 100$ transcation) and told that I would have to give them full access to the history of the account the Square account was linked to on my end (my personal checking account NOT the Sutton account). Stripe, on the other hand, did not treat me this way at all. Spun up just fine. They did not freeze my account, steal my money left in the account of a supposed independent bank (not the pass through account), or accuse me of criminal activity because I only ran one transaction to test.
This was great information and detailed enough to book a consultation with Square. This seemed like a perfect option and I wanted more information on the services offered by Square.
Hey, Heather! Thanks for the feedback - we really appreciate it! 🙌 While Square is a great processing option for smaller and mid-sized businesses, the flat, per-transaction fee can end up costing you significantly more than a processor that better caters to high-volume sellers. If you like everything else Square has to offer, however, you can contact them about negotiating a custom rate. For more information about Square alternatives, check out our post! www.merchantmaverick.com/best-square-alternatives-competitors/
Hi there! The fee is deducted directly from the transaction, so the amount that you receive in your bank account will have the transaction feel already taken out. You will not receive a bill!
I own a small Landscape company and im wanting to give my customers the ability to pay with a debit card instead of just cash or check. Would square be a good fit for what im wanting??
Yes! If you're new to card payments, Square is probably going to be your best option because their software plan is free, processing rates are simple and affordable, and you can get a low-cost card reader that is simple to set up. To learn more about Square, check out our review here: www.merchantmaverick.com/reviews/square-pos-review/. We hope this helps!
Hi Samantha! Absolutely, with Square Appointments Free, you can enjoy all the appointment features at no extra charge for a single location. The only cost you'll incur is Square’s standard processing fee when accepting card payments from your clients. We hope this helps!
great info! Does the small card reader that costs $299, be integrated with the inventory system? if they scan, who is the reader will it directly connect to the inventory system and make changes? thanks
Square Terminal does integrate directly with its inventory offerings and supports almost all of its software tiers. To learn more, check out our Square Terminal review: www.merchantmaverick.com/reviews/square-terminal-review/. We hope this helps!

Thank you for this video, however it didn't address a couple questions I have for my business. Sounds really good for restaurants and online stores, but what about service work? I need an online store to rent equipment, calculate mileage and charge and calculate labor. I have a really complex cart system and was using WIX but they were insufficient on my needs.
Hey, Brandon! In this case, Square might not be the best option as their online store features aren't extremely advanced. We'd encourage you check out Shopify as e-commerce features are really their bread and butter. You might also look at Lightspeed Retail and specifically see if their e-commerce platform has the depth you're looking for. We hope this helps! This has been a sticking point with Square for a while now. Square currently only offers this feature in beta for Square for Restaurants. Hi there! So sorry to hear you're having trouble. can people all over the world pay me over my Square website? and will square hardware devices work if I sell in outdoor festivals around the world? thanks
Hey, Evelyn! You can take payments from accepted cards all over the world assuming your account was opened in one of the countries where Square operates. Those countries are currently the U.S., Canada, Japan, UK, Australia, France, Ireland and Spain. However, Square hardware is only approved for use in the country for which it's intended. We hope this helps!
This is a great overview for the most part. However it’s wrong to say that square might not be a good fit for folks that are doing 250k more, this may have been the case in 2015, but come on… I mean Square processes millions of dollars for publicly traded companies and it’s pos solutions are really good for single and multi-location businesses that are doing 5-10m+ on a per locations basis.
Hey there! We appreciate the feedback. You can certainly still use Square if you're a higher volume seller and may be able to negotiate favorable custom rates but, generally speaking, you're likely able to find a cheaper processor elsewhere once you reach a high level of sales. Thanks for stopping by! 😊

Will they take the fee right after the transaction, or will I get a bill at the end of the month?

Is there a way to pre-authorize payments?
I'm trying to find a way to hold payment until services are rendered, and then process the payment.
