    What a plethora of information!! Thank you for explaining in such detail all the needed info through business language. I’m a new small business owner and only have recently considered taking payments by card. I’m not a “numbers” person; I’m entering business from being an English teacher. However, your explanations were so in depth that I totally understand nearly everything you said. I even read one of your articles (avoid merchant account holds) recommended in a reply from someone’s comment. Again, thank you, thank you!! I also hit that subscribe button. I’ll be back for more info soon!!

    I've had a pay pal account and I only wanted to change the email. I had to add a new one first but the system wouldn't let me! Customer service was no help as they never did answer that issue so I said that I was canceling after 2 hours, then I got a reply. Told to read the help section. Well, the system said that I couldn't quit because I had a negative balance, I didn't, so they sent me to another help site! Ok, finally got to transfer out my money.

    Zettle by PayPal just released their new product the Terminal. Now it does not require tablets or phones. I thought the updated dock with built in receipt printer was really slick. It comes with sim-card with prepaid. This is a really good thing. However only available in the UK at the moment. But might be worth taken in consideration if the terminal being an individual device is important. It is android based.

    Im looking to do my first craft show at the end of April. My business is all concrete: planters, coasters, candle vessels, office organizers, etc. Mostly small home décor. What would you recommend for me to accept payments at these fairs? Square or Paypal? I appreciate any insight.

    • @MerchantMaverick
      @MerchantMaverick  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey ddespo! Square is the best choice here --although PayPal offers a slightly lower per-transaction fee for in-person sales, Square's more fully-featured package (which includes an offline mode that enables you to sell even without an internet connection) makes it the best choice for your situation. Best of luck with your first show!

    • @MerchantMaverick
      @MerchantMaverick  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Omar! To our knowledge, Square still isn't supporting marketplaces in this way. You'd have to go with PayPal or Stripe. Stripe is the gold standard for ease of implementation, tools, etc. They should be able to do all of that.
      If you are operating exclusively in the US, Dwolla might be another option, and if not, maybe GoCardless/Borderless. We haven't reviewed either, but they're on our radar as up-and-coming options. Best of luck to you!

      Hi NettNett! Either Square or Zettle by PayPal would work fine since both are free and have similar feature sets. However, Zettle/PayPal doesn't currently offer a free card reader whereas Square does, so that might be a consideration.

Yes, you need a business account with PayPal in order to use PayPal Zettle POS, and to switch your current PayPal account from a personal account to a business account, find the "How To Set Up Your PayPal Business Account" section of our PayPal business account guide and read the info under the "How To Upgrade Or Downgrade A PayPal Business Account". Are they goood for a nail salon business?

    • @MerchantMaverick
      @MerchantMaverick  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Nai! Square is probably the better choice for a nail salon. Square has dedicated appointment and reservation-keeping features that PayPal doesn't have. But if your nail salon isn't concerned with having a system that handles appointments and reservations, PayPal does offer lower in-person transaction fees, so if cost is the only consideration, PayPal may be the way to go. Best wishes to you!

      Hi Crystal, This sounds like a rolling reserve. We haven't heard of Square implementing this practice in the past, but with their new CBD program, it might be a newer requirement. Your best bet will be to speak with Square directly on this. Sorry we didn't have more info to share, but we wish you the best of luck!

    • @MerchantMaverick
      @MerchantMaverick  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Black! We would recommend square over PayPal for you because Square has more business management and appointment features. But due to the high transaction amounts involved with your type of business, we would recommend you instead get your own merchant account for better account stability. House Call Pro is an example of an industry-specific software for carpet cleaners that includes payment processing and other industry-specific features. Best wishes to you!
