great commentary, as someone who played this as a kid it was extremely satisfying to see all of the shortcuts that I missed back then, the skips were cool too
I would absolutely love it if you went through the entire game and explained everything you guys know in detail, especially when it comes to the pod racer's stats (hidden or not) and things like obsolete skips or useless little facts. This was really entertaining.

29:17 - The revenge of Mars Guo. In the movie, Sebulba blew up Mars' pod by throwing debris into his engine. I remember playing this as a kid, and I found a skip on Abyss by random chance - Not the full lap skip though.
As far as pace goes, I feel like this game tops them all on N64. It screams SPEED RUN! Very difficult but very rewarding to play. Ur def a pro among pros!

I much prefer to use actual purposely designed shortcuts than exploits. Abyss is so much fun to beat using skill and actual shrtcuts and not exploits. My best time was around 52sec back in the day.
"Every track in the game is good" Even Abyss? Because seriously, I get they wanted to reward staying on the top level but the massive difference in lap times if you fall off the top level roads is unfairly punishing.
I notice the switch version has been out for a year and a half. Is there a reason the leaderboards are like 99.99% N64 and PC? All I have is switch so Im going to use it anyways but just curious if there was a downside or something.
Yea the optimal version to run is PC because you can freely assign all controls which means you can more easily charge boost while turning. On top of that you can adjust the framerate on PC which essentially means you can fine tune the handling. The upside is, the PC version is really cheap, you can get it for 10 €/$, when it is on sale sometimes even much less than that
