A casio solar combined with multi band 6/wave ceptor is the goat of grab and go quartz.

I'd still get an automatic Boldr Venture, because I'm a sentimental moron, but I do have several purely functional watches (Casio GW-M5610U and F-105W) and I love when I can put them on and do *stuff.*

I really like both, especially the Titanium version.
BUT, I wish the Ti version had the same hands as the plastic/resin case. The hands are bigger and more legible AND the minute hand touches the tip of the minute markers, so very easy to tell the EXACT time as well 🙏✌️👍😀
As always, great video Mark!!! And I agree, I have a lot of solar watches, but I definitely have the most from my G-Shock collection. Tough Solar is their standard system and I won't buy anymore G-Shock's without it (except for the 2100 lineup). I wish Casio would release a Solar/Bluetooth GMA-S2100 lineup like the did with the GA-B2100 replicating the original GA-2100 CasiOak's 😢

I purchased one of the A-2T Solar Classic Titanium Field Watches with Brown Leather Strap #12803 the day (literally the minute) I got the email from Bertucci. Sorry Marc, I would have bought it from you if I knew you would have the Bertucci solar watches so soon. I have a number of Bertucci quartz watches and even the Bertucci automatic version with a Miyota 9 series movement. Bertucci quality is exceptional, and I agree, their bands are superb. This includes both their nylon and Horween leather bands. If you like field watches, and if you do not have a Bertucci, buy one! I am extremely pleased with all of mine, and the new solar and leather band are at the top of the heap. I do love manual/automatic watches, but solar really pretty much checks all the watch boxes. Reliability, long life, accuracy, low (no?) maintenance!

I really like citizen, Casio and timex if I'm going solar.. Casio wise my choice is the protrek line over stuff like the G Shock line... I personally like having the ABC and temperature functionality ( altimeter barometer compass), plus I still have all the other stuff that comes along with most watches like timer, alarms, auto light ect... Me personally I use the protrek 340t.... even if you're not an Outdoorsman like me, it comes in handy for obvious reasons and the titanium makeup of the watch itself makes it very light.... Now for the timex, I use the Timex Men's Expedition Scout Solar-Powered 40mm Watch... I this is my watch I grab as a alternative to my protrek and as a beater watch for just doing day to day stuff ( gardening, cleaning, working on the car ect...)... It's simple and if I break it I'll just go out and buy a new one.. Most of the time they are under $60 (+/-)... Now for my around town, want something that looks nice but not too flashy and still has a military feild watch look with Aviation inspired dail for ease of readability I go with the Citizen Men’s Eco-Drive 3-Hand Date Avion Watch with Leather Strap (Style: AW1361:10H)... And honestly it all comes down to your taste in what you like but within each one of these lines for the citizen Casio and Timex they have a mass variety of color shape size yada Yada... but the one thing they all have in common is there all under $200 give or take, well the protrek can be upward of $300 ish, but honestly I can't see myself spending more than $300 unless it's a nice mechanical watch like a Hamilton khaki feild king of something like that... maybe it's just me but I rather have good functionality and a reason to wear something on my wrist other than the be something shiny for people to gawk at, usually the people who buy the nice big shiny things are not after quality, they are after that name brand stuff they can show off to their friends and be like look how fancy I am and how much money I have😂... and don't get me wrong there is a place and time where you might want to have that nice Rolex or that Hamilton ect... but honestly I still think it's a big waste of money... ask for the ones you show here, I have no experience with them but they seem pretty nice but still the price does not match the functionality and quality of what I'm going to be using it for... Just my opinion of course... Anyways, thought I'd share some of my favorite watches I use on a daily / in my rotation... Thank you for your time and the video 😎✌️

I read somewhere early citizen eco-drive using capacitor it's has less power reserve only for few days up to weeks but crazy long lifespan as long it's well protected from moisture and and extreme temperature so there is citizen eco-drive that already 20+ years but never need capacitor change. but today most of the solar watch using lithium which has up to 10 month power reserve but has shorter lifespan due to limited charge cycle probably up to 8 years.

Solar watches use a very special type of rechargeable battery. They are sometimes described as capacitors because of the way that they work, but they are most definitely batteries which use exotic materials to allow thousands of full charge discharge cycles without deteriorating. Typically such batteries will last between 10 and 20 years subject to daily use and abuse. With a bit more care a lifetime of well over 20 years can be expected.

I loved my Ecodrive until I thought the battery died after about ten years...turns out it was the movement itself that died. Wasn't worth replacing. I guess that could happen with any movement, but it didn't live up to the hype at the time.

Can a regular quartz movement be replaced and convert it to solar?

    • @gammondog
      @gammondog ปีที่แล้ว +2

You would need to install the photovoltaic cells. Usually,in the form of a dial. So,you are looking at replacing the entire movement with a Solar Dial. Unless you are very fond of the watch case… .😬

Nice. It looks like the second hand is hitting the marks. Did the polymer model have a cyclops on the date?

The first three I think of are; Citizen, G Shock and Timex. Seiko doesn't even enter the equation for me.

The only quartz I consider is mecha-quartz. With their quality, price, and designs I wish Casio, Bulova, and Citizen would dive into the mechanical world more deeply.

Casio G shock #5610. Bang for the buck, the best watch out there. More durable than anything else. More accurate than a Seiko spring drive. Mechanical watches need not apply. Seems that Mark doesn't carry this one, so he ignores it. Did he really think we wouldn't notice?

Actually Timex stopped making solars until recently started up solars again. My old solar Timex have died, whereas my 30 year old solar Casio continue to work normally on original batteries. The new solar Timex are nice looking watches. Only time will tell how long they last.

5:23 Gah. Those horrible hard keeper rings. They should have (to please me) used their really nice nylon keeper that doesn’t bang into stuff. It’s perfect on their smaller cheaper field watch. BTW no problem with the fiber case. Super well made.

    • @Krauser1226

Great question, I'd be interested about a hi beat solar myself because I'm super anal about seconds hands hitting their marks which is most of the reason I stick to digital quartz (but also because I'm a Casio nerd 😂). A hi beat quartz solar would be super cool.

It would be a decent drain on the battery. . . but I have not seen one.
