There is no particular set up. Just cast on (we do a long tail cast on). On the first row: k1 and sl1 with yarn over. Turn work and from there on, do as on this video.

You guys inspire me! I've been a self taught knitter for 51 years but never ventured beyond Irish Knit sweaters and size 7 needles.. Since finding you during lockdown I have become addicted to socks, cuff down and toe up, I have made a top down sweater with a lace panel from a provisional cast-on, a raglan top down sweater, cowls, mittens and GLOVES!!! lol!
I have done colorwork and steeking with a Dale of Norway pattern in the past but was always disappointed because of my tension, and Brioche is confusing to me. My goals for 2021 are to learn Brioche and practice, practice, practice my colorwork.
I LOVED Arne's knitting by the fireplace videos and I knit along with him in a companionable silence. LOL! and when Freya barks and you guys say, MOOSE MOOSE! my wee dog barks and I say, FREYA FREYA! lol!
All this is to say I have loved spending time with you guys and WHY CAN"T WE BE NEIGHBORS?? lol!!

So did I, this past month, I've been trying all the new ways to hold the yarn. This is my favorite. I'm working on my first pair of socks, two at a time cuff down. when I tried two at a time toe up there were too many holes and I couldn't stand looking at them, so I started another going cuff down. I'll try it again after a while.

I’ve always knitted the continental way. I thought that was fast. But just a couple months ago I learned how to knit and pearl the Norwegian way from Arnie’s video -which is much faster. I’ve always avoided brioche knitting because I heard that it was very hard to do. Now I’ve been inspired to give it a try. I have also taught my coworker to knit. She’s only been knitting a few months and she already knits the Norwegian way and knits almost as fast as I do now. Thank you so much for your tutorials.

I loved the opening sketch. Oh my goodness...thank you so much. I was nervous about trying Brioche too, but now, when I find a pattern, I won't be.
Also, Arne and Carlos, I want to say that for the past months, I've been practicing different forms of knitting. I think I've tried them all, but when I watched your "REVISITED How to Knit" podcast, and heard you say that the needle holds the tension, I went back and tried the Norwegian way of holding the yarn, and I want to say...MAHALO! I got it, it's so easy, I'm not worried about tension and I don't want to stop knitting. I keep telling my dog, one more row then we'll go to bed, then I get "the look." I'm knitting my first pair of socks and I seem to be breezing through it.
    P. S. So happy you are back, but I still love sitting with Arne in front of the fireplace, it's one of my favorite "go-to" videos for peace and quiet time.

Arne, you're a gem; and Carlos, you're my hero for trying this. You both taught me something :) UPDATE: Since I wrote this post I have been a Norwegian Brioche Knitting Fool! Please have more videos with this technique...both flat- and in-the-round. I'm shocked how easy and enjoyable :) Thank you!

Thanks for making it so easy in this video. I did a sweater of this pattern back in the 80’s, I loved the sweater and wanted to do another in this stitch but couldn’t remember what the stitch was. After working a sample of brioche this is the stitch. Plus it’s a great way to practice Norwegian knitting. Thanks again

I just started brioche in January this year. I have to admit there is very few videos for this in a Norwegian style. I am adopting a one pass Norwegian Brioche (two color in the round) method. Thanks for all the things you show us. I really enjoy the time with you both!

So I’ve been knitting the Norwegian way all my life? I’m now 80 and was taught to knit by my Italian grandmother when I was a child. We keep the yarn over the finger in back. Who knew?? 😆. And I’ve NEVER heard Brioche. Except in bakery. Tallahassee Florida 👍

Nice to have you back, Carlos! And for the return of Sunday and Wednesday videos. Thank you for this brioche tutorial. I have been wanting to learn this stitch. I knit the way my friend taught me when I lived in Sweden, which looks the same as Norwegian knit but the purl is different. Haven’t gotten the hang of the Norwegian purl yet.
