To cast on 300 sts use a long circular needle of 80 cm / 32 inches.

Is that what I know as the ‘old Norwegian cast on’? Which type of cast off do you use? I know it’s important your cast on and bind off match well in a scarf like this so one side isn’t tighter from experience. Lovely scarf 🧣

I have just finished knitting my "Easiest Scarf In The World". I used a variety of colors of worsted weight yarn from my stash, including both bright and muted colors to avoid a crayon box look. The scarf is 8.5" wide and 84" long. That length is OK because I am 5'9" tall and can wrap it this way and that to a comfortable length. Next time I make this scarf in worsted weight yarn I will cast on 250 stitches instead of 300. That will result in a 72" scarf. For a 60" scarf, you'd cast on 200 stitches if using worsted weight yarn. I knitted this scarf flat, using two Size 9, 40" circular needles like a pair of straight needles. This scarf was way too bulky to knit flat using only one circular needle.
A most enjoyable knitting project. Thank you for the inspiration, Arne and Carlos

I'm thinking of making a table runner in this manner with perhaps a cotton yarn or blend. Something washable on delicate cycle since I hope to have the 4 little grandchildren around the table again soon! I started the scarf using my scraps. It's like a walk down memory lane. It took the entire 300 plus stitches for me to figure out what I'd made with a certain beautiful purple yarn. I finally remembered that it was used for a spiral scarf, my first experience with short rows. I overestimated my long tail so I kept casting on beyond the 300. One of these rows, I'll actually count them! This is a fun project, especially one I can put down and pick up when I'm waiting for yarn to arrive for a project. Thanks Arne & Carlos!

You really got my attention when you said "easiest", I love this scarf and your contrasting color choices. Arne, your sample looks like it would make a cute coaster. I could see these turn into a table runner, or dresser scarf? a doll blanket for my grand daughter to play with, oh so many possibilities! Thank you for your inspiration :)

Thank you for this quick and easy tutorial Arne and Carlos. Very clever idea to do the fringe at the same time too. Love the colors of the completed scarf. Take care and be safe.

Beautiful scarf you could make a small throw and keep warm while knitting . On a 60 length needle.

this technique is amazing...i once crocheted an "Apache Trail of Tears" blanket with the technique of starting every row on the right of the rs and leaving enough yarn on both ends to tie together at the end of the project....also don't forget you want to leave each end at least 12 inches/30 cm so that you can have enough yarn to trim....do this for any knitted or crochet project that has fringe on the sides

I am also on the Tinna bandwagon along with the Arne and Carlos bandwagon. Apache Tears pattern was in the first project and very easy.

Hello Arne and Carlos. Love your scarf pattern and the colours that you have chosen. You suit a scarf Carlos. It's clever how the fringe is made too. Thanks for a great podcast. I do really enjoy seeing them. Take care xxx

Don’t steal it! Ok. Hey, this is a fun idea for bits and pieces, thanks. I made a long scarf last year in linen stitch so it could be flipped - but didn’t make the fringe. Yours is a cool idea. I’d show you mine, but I am impatient with Instagram. Now - I’m going to start making eggs. Xxx

I laughed. Do not steal he says. I am guessing if you are a beginner knitter, you might know a knitter or crocheter with scrap yarn to offer. This would be very cute 1/2 or 2/3 one color and accent stripes!

The first thing that I knitted was a scarf using the same technique, many years ago! I don’t know if you ever saw Dr Who when Tom Baker was the Dr, well he had a very long scarf and I just kept knitting until mine resembled his. I may still have the scarf somewhere. . . . Great episode. Be well 🌹
