Being pedantic, it is the European Union that has proposed a directive to create a universal charging solution for phones and small electronic devices NOT the UK. The UK left the EU after the Brexit referendum. I have not seen that the UK agrees though I can't see how they wouldn't. The proposed rules will apply to smartphones , tablets, cameras, headphones, portable speakers and handheld video game consoles. Apple's response was the usual nonsense: "We remain concerned that strict regulation mandating just one type of connector stifles innovation rather than encouraging it, which in turn will harm consumers in Europe and around the world." MEPs (Members of the European Parliament) and member states may suggest amendments to the proposal. Only once the EC has agreed these amendments, will the directive be enacted. This is something that ought to have been implemented many years ago (not USB-C but a standardised charging port relevant to the time). It is hoped that it will happen in 2022 but the relevant legislation needs to be agreed then enacted in all countries. You and other youtubers with reach could help make it happen. Research by the European Comission estimates that disposed of and unused charging cables generate more than 11,000 tonnes of waste per year.
Apple is correct that it’ll harm innovation.. innovation in terms of finding ways to make more money. I’m an iPhone user but Apple can go f*ck themselves with that response

@@BillAnt Not so, that socket/plug combination is used in UK, Ireland, Cyprus, Malta, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong with good reason as although it is bulkier it's the safest design out there and the superior design the world ought to be using. During World War II, a copper shortage resulted in the British government putting fuses into every plug, instead of wiring them directly. In case of an unexpected electrical surge, the fuse simply blows and the electricity shuts off, preventing fires, electrocutions, and other accidents. It also makes U.K. plugs easier to fix by simply replacing a fuse. The more dangerous live and neutral terminals on the socket are shuttered and opened by the longer ground prong on the plug preventing (kids) jamming something in there. Half of each prong is coated in insulation. Because of this, even if a plug is not fully inserted into a socket, touching the exposed part of the prongs can’t give you a shock. The wiring inside the plug itself is designed so that if the plug is tugged and the wiring frays, the live and neutral wires are the first to become disconnected, while the grounding wires-the ones responsible for preventing human electrocution when they come in contact with a circuit-are the last to fray. In this instance the UK design standard is superior to all else. If the EU directive proposal does go ahead without significant curtailing amendments, which is by no means certain when the industry lobbyists get to work, the UK will probably follow suit. Hoping Jerryrig, Mrwhosetheboss, Marques Brownlee and other popular youtubers could add their support :D

“Apple says no charging brick saves on waste”
-proceeds to take out chargers in separate boxes…
less chargers are being made in the result of not shipping with every phone. Saving in a lot of metals, plastic, mining, warehouse space, etc. It's not just about packaging.
They make less chargers. Samsung just took the brick out and didnt even say anything. They’re embarrased because they made fun of apple for taking it out. Then when they realised it was a good idea they did the same thing
@@ape2533 not to mention they also made fun of apple for removing the headphones and headphone jack and they followed suit the next year. They deleted their videos at those times too out of shame lmao
@@AndrewPL5 thats stupid because every one needs a Charger. Its a scam from Apple.
@@smashedlegends then why do Samsung and Google no longer give charging bricks? Honestly who doesn't already have a charging brick at home they can use? This whole charging logic is stupid. You do not need a new charging brick every time you get a new phone. I always use aftermarket chargers or portable chargers for my phone
"I don't know if Apple is saving up to buy the moon or what" lol 😂

I LOVE these durability test videos from Zack. His voice is so calming and nice. Thanks Zack for making my day better :)
agreed
My heart went 📈📈📈 when he starts scratching
…and almost had a heart attack when he used the lighter? ;)
I'm impressed by Apple. It definitely isn't perfect, but wow that's better than I expected, especially with the burn test.

The Ceramic Shield is what’s helping the screen withstand the heat from the lighter

I bet it "glass is glass, and glass can break"...
The slickest intro you've done in your entire career. Well done, Jerry.

I love this more sophisticated version of durability tests. I remember back in the early days of durability tests, people would check its strength with a hammer and tossing it from the top of a 10' ladder.

I am QUITE sure it was the EU that devised the standardized regulations mentioned at the 5:00 minute mark, not the UK.
After all, the UK left precisely mostly because they didn't want to abide by every single one of them
You are correct, it is the EU. And the first company to complain was Apple because their lightning port is "superior"... I mean usb 2.0 is clearly superior to USB 3.0 /s

I think there have been some legit sapphire display phones made. It's just not worth the cost though. Tempered glass, especially the ceramic shield stuff from Apple is more than good enough for the vast majority of people.
@@roots4x I had Sony Ericsson WT19 around 8-9 years ago, and I think it had a sapphire screen. But it was only a 3.2 inch display and the bezels around it.

HTC U Ultra had a real sapphire screen, scratching at a level 8.
Actually
Being pedantic, it is the European Union that has proposed a directive to create a universal charging solution for phones and small electronic devices NOT the UK. The UK left the EU after the Brexit referendum. I have not seen that the UK agrees though I can't see how they wouldn't. The proposed rules will apply to smartphones , tablets, cameras, headphones, portable speakers and handheld video game consoles.
Apple's response was the usual nonsense:
"We remain concerned that strict regulation mandating just one type of connector stifles innovation rather than encouraging it, which in turn will harm consumers in Europe and around the world."
MEPs (Members of the European Parliament) and member states may suggest amendments to the proposal.
@@sterlingarcher7101 you know how much lightining connector made so much waste in accessories 🤯 they dont innovate anymore lmao samsung and others companies make innovative tech... apple is just changing one thing when new iphone so they could make money and other would buy it anyway... I am sure they could already made iPhone that looks somewhat like android phones with full screens no bezzels and all that... but they wont...
The UK will probably have their own UK-C port since they are the only ones with the funny looking prongs in the entire Europe. lol
@@ETmmm733 - Thanks for the info, nothing wrong the UK plug, however my comment was meant as humor. :)
